Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEW ADDITIONS since last thread:

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

AUGUST 2017: Sunscreen is pretty much non-negotiable at the moment (not that it’s ever not Wink), RL bumps have been met in the road for some, unfortunately. Grief sucks but we do our best to offer a bit of comfort even if it is just something as inane as skincare chat Smile. Some of us are lucky enough to be nerding out in French pharmacies whilst pretending to do that holiday thing, the Shelf Porn Off is still on…

I can't believe we're on thread 9 Shock

Well, I had a nice long soak in the tub last night and had a good look at my legs but I cannot detect any veg likeness and am just left more confused. Are we talking a veg per leg or do the two of them together make for a veg? And gnarly organic or the pristine genetically modified kind? Anyhow, I have decided I like my legs, they look great in heels, they can go a bit iffy with sneakers under dresses or shorts but invisible heel inserts solve that problem and help with the whole 'high arches and can't do flats' at the same time.

I think you're supposed to have a bit of hip on an hourglass figure, just look at lovely Marylin

OP posts:
EnidButton · 11/09/2017 14:17

Ooh my legs are Marilyn like!

I'm not mentioning vegetables again. Unless we're sharing recipes.

EnidButton · 11/09/2017 14:23

(Except to answer your ? bo I think they were referring to having very small ankles, slim calves and large thighs. Complete bollocks. It's a nice leg shape.)

Hi everyone!

Nothing much to add at the moment. I'm on a very minimal routine as I'm adding in Paula's Choice clinical 1% retinol.

I had a really persistent, painful breakout at one side of my mouth and after trying everything I could think of u stopped using the tropic Skincare Moisturiser I'd got to replace the Facetheory one and literally overnight they cleared up! It's hadn't occurred to me that it could be the tropic causing it as it didn't start until I'd been using it a while.

Routine at the moment:
Am
Cleanse - I have a few I like to choose from but usually Alpha H triple action Cleanser
Paula's choice 2% bha liquid
Queen of Hungary spritz
Hero Project Hyasoft - this is really really nice, I think the B5 has really helped the red marks following my breakouts
toleriane Fluid
Spf - alpha H or usually Ultrasun

Pm
remove makeup either DHC or Ultrabland
Cleanse with Alpha H Balancing Cleanser
Hyasoft
Moisturiser- trying a couple I've used before
Sometimes an oil too

One night a week Alpha H liquid Gold and so far used the PC retinol once a week ago so will try again tomorrow night.

I love the Hyasoft but it's expensive for a small 30ml tube so I think I'll go through it quickly. Waiting on some Hado Labo to try when I've used it up as that's a lot cheaper.

I stopped using vitamin C when I was breaking out but I'd like to reintroduce at some point. I've also got my baaa resveratrol & ferulic but not sure if I can add that in at the moment?

Ollivander84 · 11/09/2017 16:44

botemp - what do you reckon to ceramidin cream? Or is there a cheap Korean one you would recommend?

botemp · 11/09/2017 16:55

The ceramidin has fragrance which is definitely something to avoid when the barrier is compromised. Also don't know if it has the ideal 3:1:1:1 ratio of ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids. Cerave is probably a better choice.

What do we think of the ingredients in this new launch eye cream? I would like to try Verso but it won't be for another month or two. I am slightly reluctant to give FT another try...

www.facetheory.com/products/cooling-eye-cream-with-chamomile-vitamin-c-liqourice-and-retinol?variant=45054675534

Ollivander I might have a sealed Hera foundation refill in shade 13...my SIL brought me two back from China but the shade is way too pale for me. Would you like it? I am happy to send it to you. I can get the details later if/when I find it!

Ollivander84 · 11/09/2017 17:09

Miffy - I would love it :) shade 13 is perfect for me!

botemp · 11/09/2017 17:12

Maybe I'm going blind but that FT retinol appears to contain no retinol Confused the Vit C is SAP which isn't all that interesting for the eye area.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 11/09/2017 17:29

Cosrx honey ceramide! That's the one I have on my watch list

EnidButton · 11/09/2017 18:05

The FT eye cream doesn't seem to have liquorice in it either. It has aniseed but I can't see liquorice. Wonder if they've got the iingredients list wrong.

miffy2 · 11/09/2017 18:07

Thanks botemp, have to say I am wary of them since the dramatic change in their formula between batches (day & night cream). Back to the drawing board for an eye cream - I was going to treat myself to the Verso on cultbeauty with my 15% birthday discount, but then it went out of stock.

Olli I found the cushion refill. I think the date of production is 2015 (I was given it maybe a year ago) but as it is sealed in a plastic bag and has been in a box in a drawer I reckon it is still fine to use! PM me your address and I will send it off to you. It is the Hera UV Mist Cushion in N13

botemp · 11/09/2017 18:19

Miffy, SkinCity sell Verso for a lot less money as they maintain the Swedish pricing. I think it's around £50 there, pretty sure CB charge substantially more.

OP posts:
miffy2 · 11/09/2017 18:45

Ooh I never thought of Skincity. Thx so much!

miffy2 · 11/09/2017 18:47

Do you like the eye serum? I like the fact that it is 30ml.

botemp · 11/09/2017 18:55

Like is an understatement, I love it and would most likely do degrading things for it.

It lasts me about a year so I find it pretty good value at 30ml. I use half a pump every other day and only at night, officially you're supposed to use it 2x a day, I reckon it would last about 3-4 months with that much use. I only bought it initially as it came in an offer with the facial serum as that wasn't much more money than just the facial serum. I didn't expect much from it as I don't have a troubled eye zone but after a few months, it was noticeable that it looked far tighter and less dark as the skin had thickened. Still have yet to spot a fine line but that absence of evidence really doesn't mean much at my age.

Much googling later I think I'm going to try this cream. For now I actually have a second bottle of the REN so will keep using that

Lelly78 · 11/09/2017 21:07

Wow thank you botemp much appreciated. Loads of really helpful information, I shall consider carefully what I buy next and maybe stop using some acids for now :)

This thread is brilliant, love reading all the contributions :)

Tsmummy08 · 11/09/2017 22:16

Olli just catching up with the thread and saw that you're using the Bulk Powders Apple and kiwi Greens supplement - is it really grim? I ordered it today before reading your comment!! Confused

On the other hand, my Queen of Hearts palette is LUSH! Highly recommended if you like warm colours, and a great mix of matte and foiled textures but very pigmented so only a light hand is needed.

miffy2 · 11/09/2017 22:16

Thank you Bo. It is in my basket and just waiting for my 'new month' of spending to start this weekend. At 48 I do have the occasional wrinkle in the eye area ;) but more annoying is I have puffiness under my eyes (not sagging skin just really puffy despite 3 litres of water on the daily) and one is worse than the other.

Ollivander84 · 11/09/2017 22:18

Ts - ummm, it's not a nice g&t Grin but I keep drinking it so it's not vile!

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2017 07:19

Can anyone rec an eyelid primer? I'm currently using the ud primer potion which I really like but was hoping to find something cheaper! I have oily lids and like to wear a primer even if not wearing eyeshadow otherwise my lids get so oily then it must run into my eyes somehow as they become irritated and sore!

In return I'm offering a couple of new finds some of you might like.... nyx lid lingerie eye tint, these are really lovely and only £6! And maybelline brow satin, which is a pencil/crayon one end and a built in powder and applicator on other end. Both of these products I will repurchase Grin

botemp · 12/09/2017 07:56

I've never owned them but supposedly the lid primers from Kiko and NYX are good. Only ever tested the Kiko one and that was a bit shimmery but possibly it comes in different finishes?

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 12/09/2017 10:21

I use the NYX HD one at the minute and it's good

mintmagnummm · 12/09/2017 10:30

Great thank you
