Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEW ADDITIONS since last thread:

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

AUGUST 2017: Sunscreen is pretty much non-negotiable at the moment (not that it’s ever not Wink), RL bumps have been met in the road for some, unfortunately. Grief sucks but we do our best to offer a bit of comfort even if it is just something as inane as skincare chat Smile. Some of us are lucky enough to be nerding out in French pharmacies whilst pretending to do that holiday thing, the Shelf Porn Off is still on…

I can't believe we're on thread 9 Shock

Enid I have parsnip legs too, I know most women's thighs are bigger than their lower legs but for some of us the contrast is much more noticeable. I have slim legs from mid thigh down and super skinny ankles (and feet!) but big saddle bag upper thighs. My thighs have never been thin, even when I was a size 8. Now I've gained weight I'm having to buy size 16 bottoms because of my thighs, the rest of me is 12-14. I do wear skinnies but only with longer tops.

Used the smelly ass TO ferulic stuff this morning and it doesn't smell of anything to me either. I'm not opening the squalane/ret until my current tube of 1% is finished, as I'm only using it once a week now that may take some time!

I'm trying to purge my makeup at the minute & have banned myself from buying more unless I run out of an absolute must have. I'm also trying to stop myself looking at the makeup links on here, I have noseyed at the Fenty stuff and also beauty pie which keeps getting mentioned on other threads but so far managed to avoid temptation.

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 13:44

Used my last bit of MAC waterweight foundation today. It's like a light serum/gel, and I tried it with an oval brush for the first time - wow. Better coverage than with a blender. I'm repurchasing the foundation, and I never RP foundation!

mintmagnummm · 10/09/2017 13:54

Olli what shade are u in that foundation? Also do u find it drying at all?

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 14:09

NW15/20 and no, it's v v lightweight

wiltingfast · 10/09/2017 14:28

How are people getting on with the ferulic?

Am finding it a tad oily (d3). Might cut it down to one drop mixed in with vit c...

mintmagnummm · 10/09/2017 16:59

Olli have you ever tried the balm cosmetics balmshelter tinted moisturiser? I think u would quite like it, it's got more coverage than the average tm and definitely not greasy like the majority of them! It's thick and creamy like a balm texture. Colours run slightly dark, I wear light but blend it very well! I think there's a lighter shade which u would prob prefer.

userallusedup · 10/09/2017 17:02

I've only used it today Wilting and found it ok but I'm at home doing some much needed decluttering so no makeup. The real test for me will be tomorrow when I wear it to work under makeup.

Pupsiecola · 10/09/2017 17:22

They're by CheekyWipes and Milford recommended them Bo.

Pupsiecola · 10/09/2017 17:31

Where would you buy that Cosrx cleanser from Bo?

mintmagnummm · 10/09/2017 17:58

Pupsie I got mine from beautyandseoul.co.uk

botemp · 10/09/2017 18:07

I really shouldn't be indulging in the winter veg leg chat, as surely I'll give myself a complex about having butternut squash legs, but if not carrots, what is the desirable vegetable leg to have?

user, I should probably follow your example on the makeup front. I've attempted to budget it down several times but I always feel like I'm spending more money as so much just doesn't deliver and drugstore products are hardly ever available to test out properly, or hygienically for that matter. I'm still trying to figure out my next brow move, of course the Sisley pencil is bloody perfect but at the moment my hair has gone quite warm on the top from the sun, so the full on cool base colour isn't so promiment and my eyebrows clash a bit. Was thinking of the new Paradiso eyebrow pommade from L'Oreal as Sali H was quite complimentary about it but with absolutely no way to test it or which colour to get beyond some swatches online I may very well be wasting my money. Argh. And at €15 it isn't all that cheap either, Anastasia BH is €16.50 and I believe you get a bit more product. And if it is too warm I'm going to need to get a tinted brow gel to match. I should just buy the Sisley, or the Surratt unseen

2-3 drops on their own work fine for me, wilting. Have only used it at night so far, after p50 (which works really well together, I wake up looking really well rested when I'm not) and before Retinol on other nights. Finished my Medik8 Vit C today so will start using in the AM from tomorrow on.

Pupsie, I'd buy it from Jolse probably, either their own shop or their eBay account (sometimes one comes in cheaper than the other), or roseroseshop on ebay (name is slightly different something with rubyruby I think). Jolse are having some offers on currently with CoxRx set prices, think there's a cleanser + birch sap lotion offer that may be useful for you if you want a backup along with the cleanser. Jolse is usually a fraction more expensive but it's inclusive of free shipping so if you only want a few things they work out best IME.

My legs aren't like a veg but I'd describe them as chicken drumsticks Confused

Pupsiecola · 10/09/2017 20:06

Thanks bo

Lelly78 · 10/09/2017 20:52

Hello ladies, I have loved reading all your posts so far, I am in awe of some of the knowledge Shock

Anyway I was a skin care virgin but I have for this far, would anyone mind giving me their opinions on what I'm doing so far and maybe what I could tweak or try in the future. I'm 39, my skin is basically normal with occasional painful spots, early signs of aging some pigmentation from previous skin damage.

Here we go...
AM Cleanse Superdrug natural radiance
Clearasil salicylic acid
Haba laba
TO 30% vitamin c serum I have no idea if those 3 are in the right order
Nivea soft moisturiser if I need it
Heliocare spf 50

PM
Elemis balm cleanser
Superdrug natural radiance cleanser
Haba labo
One of: TO Retinol 2%, TO Lactic acid 5%, Superdrug glycolic pads
TO Azelaic acid (not with retinol, is there anything else I should avoid it with?)
Cheap facial oil jojoba or vitamin e (if I feel like it not retinol night)
Aldi q10 ( not retinol night, use Nives soft)

Thoughts very very appreciated, are too many products etc? Blush

cad186 · 10/09/2017 21:09

Olli what brush did you use?

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 21:13

A v cheap one! Brand is Tonsee and it was about £2 off amazon

cad186 · 10/09/2017 21:24

I used to use a blender but I feel quite a lot of foundation gets wasted so I went back to using brushes. Am always on the look out for something new to try!

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 21:31

I use that one, and the real techniques expert face brush Smile

EnidButton · 10/09/2017 21:59

Hello Shestood Smile

User Embrace the parsnips! Grin Seriously, I had a small google and a lot of hourglass shapes have that shape leg/s. It looks good. Check out Madmen's Joan. Hot!

bo After extensive research 2 minute google image browse I like carrot/parsnip legs. I like big thighs and I cannot lie. Which is a good job really. I'd have made a marvellous Dick Whittington.

Hi Lelly. What do you think of the Elemis balm? I seem to remember there was something in it that wouldn't agree with me but I keep looking at it anyway.

I have a spot brewing on my forehead which is still invisible but feels like I've been hit with a truncheon. Some emergency Zyneryt has been applied so we'll see. This is what happens when I eat cake.

Lelly78 · 10/09/2017 22:16

enid I like it. Although I know very little about ingredients and just think it gets my face clean and smells nice Grin

EnidButton · 10/09/2017 22:34

Lelly I love the smell of Elemis products. Just had a look and it's got shea butter in it. (It gives me spots unfortunately.) Looks nice though.

cad186 · 10/09/2017 23:01

Ive got a few real techniques brushes, not sure if ive got that one will have to check it out! Thanks Olli!

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 23:13

So after my flaky forehead saga I started using REN omega 3 oil/serum again
Smooth skin, no spots Confused forgot how much I liked this product!

yongnian · 11/09/2017 10:17

wilting I'm liking the ferulic. Am using one drop in vit c, haven't tried it on its own.
I'm not going to torture myself by entering into the leg/vegetable discussion....let's just say I have powerful hindquarters and leave it there...and the vegetable would be seasonal....halloweenesque even....

Ollivander84 · 11/09/2017 10:59

Ooh my cushion refill has arrived. Went for the palest shade (#13) and it's perfect
