Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEW ADDITIONS since last thread:

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

AUGUST 2017: Sunscreen is pretty much non-negotiable at the moment (not that it’s ever not Wink), RL bumps have been met in the road for some, unfortunately. Grief sucks but we do our best to offer a bit of comfort even if it is just something as inane as skincare chat Smile. Some of us are lucky enough to be nerding out in French pharmacies whilst pretending to do that holiday thing, the Shelf Porn Off is still on…

I can't believe we're on thread 9 Shock

Grim, I'd question if your routine is a bit acid heavy. Assuming the AM is BHA, do you really need that every day? P50 and LG are competing products so how sensible it is to have both.

WRT order, it's not an issue now with the Tetra but I'd you were ever to use a pH dependant Vitamin C like most of the hydrous L-AA serums are you'd have to apply that before BHA. Waiting time not essential but could be considered in that scenario.

Have you attempted Fiddy's pore shrinking technique for the SF yet?

OP posts:
botemp · 11/10/2017 10:06

Oh also, CosRX morning cleanser is also BHA based so using that and the PC BHA seems a bit much in one routine.

Thanks Bo. I'm think I might try the Chantecaille tinted moisturiser. I've shied away in the past because of the price. But I only need to repurchase about 3 times a year so really not too bad. I am going to go in tomorrow and have a looksie. (Will check out the mascara too!).

GrimDamnFanjo · 11/10/2017 14:30

Thanks Bo that's really helpful. I've looked at Fiddys recommendation and was wondering about trying it X

Nimisha · 11/10/2017 15:50

Hi,
I've been using the cosrx morning gel for nearly two weeks now and seems to be doing the trick. Only been doing a single cleanse in the evenings as I haven't been wearing makeup. Time to introduce the TO niacinamide and zinc. Used it for the first time this morning. Its a bit gloopy and on my oily skin I didn't feel i needed another moisturizer before SPF. I thought I'd use it twice a day for now (my other serum ran out) to see how I go with a view to introducing buffet in the morning and Nia in the evening in two weeks if all goes well.

Ollivander I have an SAD light which sits slightly behind my makeup mirror, provides a great light for makeup.

botemp · 11/10/2017 19:59

Good to hear, Nimisha. I think you'll be ok twice a day as it's HA based but just watch for any irritation.

The TM is lovely Pupsie. I could only ever get a good match for the summer and since I only get through one tube a year at most it was a rather pricey affair without a winter colour to mix it with. I think they do have a fairer colour that isn't pink toned now but I haven't been near a physical counter in a while. If you do end up trying it out can you let me know the shade match in comparison to your LM TM as I vaguely recall that we are using the same or similar shade in that?

Also looking forward to hearing what a derm thinks of TO. :)

I've overdone it with retinoids and acids so am cooling my heels a little. ;) Keep seeing ads for a company called Dermosil. www.dermosil.com/eu/?setlocale Anyone tried anything? Seems simple, in both senses of the words and fairly good value. Considering a facial oil maybe.

In other news I've bought the most fantastic clown trousers. Bright green and fabulous. Yay! www.hm.com/se/product/80698?article=80698-C

botemp · 12/10/2017 16:46

Never heard of Dermosil before. I only ever get weird ads on MN, I've had Chinese prosthetic limbs, Swedish snowboards, lately a constant repetitive one to align my chakras and a a cellulite one which I fear has been triggered by my mere mentioning it a few posts back Hmm

Love the clown pants Bani! I'm in a weird fashion mood too and coveting all things pastel this winter which seems very unpractical but I suppose they're all optimistic colours so there's that.

I'll have to look it up when not on the phone, but Dr Dray did try out TO and give her opinion. Spoiler alert, she was not impressed much.

Just joined and this is really great so hello everybody :)

JDSTER · 12/10/2017 17:42

chinese prosthetic limbs Grin. I've been getting chakras one too Angry

botemp · 12/10/2017 17:53

Welcome Beauty!

I don't get the chakra one, it's obviously a specially paid one as opposed to the random ones which are local (or supposed to be anyhow) I only get the UK ads if it's a specifically bought one but MN isn't exactly known for their love of woo... What's next tarot card readings and psychic hotlines? I like to think my chakras are aligned just fine btw, never had any complaints Grin Have never found a need for prosthetic limbs either though Confused

Hi Beauty SmileCake

I had a bit of a spending spree the other day. I'll post what I repurchased and the new bits later. Need to sort it all out.

JDSTER · 12/10/2017 19:59

But have you had a haircut Enid? Wink

userallusedup · 12/10/2017 20:31

Hello Beauty and welcome Smile

I have an adblocker so don’t see any ads on here apart from the ‘Mumsnet swears by’ stuff at that side —> which I pay minimal attention to. It’s a parka at the moment.

For all those who use beauty blenders, what do you wash them with? I’ve been using up a tea trea face wash (can’t use on my face as makes my eyes sting) but it’s nearly gone so wondering if I should get one of the cleaners that’s made specially for BBs.

botemp · 12/10/2017 21:05

I use two parts olive oil to one part ecover dishwashing soap. Or Dr. Bronners if it isn't too heavily saturated. It depends on what I've used it with, some are really difficult to get out so only the deep cleansing olive oil and ecover combo gets it clean. I received the BB official soap (the solid one) as a freebie with it but that was absolutely useless for the BB. Perfectly fine for normal brushes though.

I have adblockers too but not on my phone and MN is one of the few sites I visit often enough to remember the ads. Think that's also why I get the weirdest ads, especially if using public wifi.

I use Dr Bronner as well. V multipurpose stuff! I've washed brushes, beauty blender, bras, cleaned sinks, squirted down the loo and washed horses with it Grin

userallusedup · 12/10/2017 21:18

Thanks Bo and Olli I’m off to order some Dr Bronner, does that count as a sheeple purchase?? Grin 🐑🐑🐑

Love the new thread title and glad we’ve kept our little snail too 🐌

botemp · 12/10/2017 21:37

Ahem, at the risk of scaring you of the Dr Bronner, I know someone who does everything with it. Shower, face wash, dishes, brushes his teeth with it Shock amongst many other things... he mentioned lube once, I refuse to believe it was anything but a joke Envy

banivani · 12/10/2017 22:06

The Dermosil ads are on Facebook mind. Don’t even notice the MN ones - m&s maybe? Who knows. I’m just babbling to fill up the old thread...

botemp · 12/10/2017 22:12

I don't FB, probably a good thing. Weirdest ads from what I gather. I just remembered my most astonishing ad on MN, it was from Mytheresa which I do browse on occasion but it was a fur coat (which I'd never look at) that was horrendously expensive, marked down spectacularly though. Still shocked at the price and its appearance on MN, think I may have taken a screenshot. Lemme go look and whilst I'm at it, let me look up the Dr. Dray on TO video.

Thread filling is hard
