Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEW ADDITIONS since last thread:

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

AUGUST 2017: Sunscreen is pretty much non-negotiable at the moment (not that it’s ever not Wink), RL bumps have been met in the road for some, unfortunately. Grief sucks but we do our best to offer a bit of comfort even if it is just something as inane as skincare chat Smile. Some of us are lucky enough to be nerding out in French pharmacies whilst pretending to do that holiday thing, the Shelf Porn Off is still on…

I can't believe we're on thread 9 Shock

Just wanted to update you on the benefit brow powder I bought recently.....it made my brows spotty! HmmConfusedSad

yongnian · 09/09/2017 07:57

Catching up...olli I am going to agree with user here and say that's how my seb derm manifested after using ret-a but it took a while after I used it so I couldn't instantly relate cause and effect, though it did flare-up suddenly.
Maybe then the windburn just finally compromised the skin barrier that bit too much...and bingo tipped you over into seb derm territory.
Just my two-penn'orth anyway. A long break from the irritant, a combo of cica, rice bran oil and a good nighttime occlusive eventually soothed mine back down.
As an aside, your greens powder looks good, which one is it?
I am liking (non)smelly sheeps ass too bo. Mixing with vit c 23. Have also swapped in buffet at night as I'm trialling Agireline on my eye crepe so have moved that to am. Really liking buffet too. Had it on standby for ages. Like the heavier weight for night.
My constant monthly hormonal lower cheek acne flare up is here. It's so much smaller these days i.e. Tiny spots not enormous cystic. However, it repeats in the same area regularly so the discoloured scarring is tedious. Will work on these with the reservatrol/vit c mix.
Skin good otherwise.

Ollivander84 · 09/09/2017 08:03

This one, I think the discount code shown on the site works on it too. I have the apple and kiwi, it's not one to savour as tastes v strongly of oregano/basil but I just down it Grin

mintmagnummm · 09/09/2017 08:27

Right I need a soft grey eyeshadow rec please! I'm a redhead (similar colouring to olli) although I have slightly more warmth in my skin (still cool toned though) I do get a very light golden tan when in sun (only body, my face just gets freckles) my eyes have lots of colours in them, blue/grey/green with flecks of yellow gold. Help?!

Ollivander84 · 09/09/2017 08:48

I only have a couple of greys - bedrock, moondust and concrete jungle all from makeup geek
I would look at Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier, possibly MAC depending if you want shimmer or matte

mintmagnummm · 09/09/2017 09:14

Thanks olli

botemp · 09/09/2017 09:59

I don't know if you're interested in grey that leans towards taupe but Sali Hughes devoted an entire column to that shade recently:

www.theguardian.com/fashion/2017/aug/19/taupe-eyes-sali-hughes

If you're still going to drop by Kiko you can try there too, they have loads of single eyeshadows which are good value for money.

mintmagnummm · 09/09/2017 11:04

Oh thank u for that bo I'll definitely have a read, and yes I'm planning on a visit to kiko soon Grin

wiltingfast · 09/09/2017 11:27

I bought the urban decay basics 2 palette The middle shade is quite grey....

botemp · 09/09/2017 13:38

I just remembered, more spendy but they do beautiful single eyeshadows especially in the neutral beige-taupe-grey range, Burberry. For whatever reason I also have it made up in my mind that Burberry suits fair redheads really well but not being one I may be talking complete bollocks.

Ollivander84 · 09/09/2017 14:02

Botemp Angry now I have to go and fantasy shop online, being a porcelain redhead... Grin

mintmagnummm · 09/09/2017 14:34

Oh nooooo bo I don't have a Burberry counter near me Sad

mintmagnummm · 09/09/2017 16:44

Ok so I went into kiko and tested loads of eyeshadows on my hand, couldn't make a decision then bought an eye pencil and completely forgot to even look at the concealer bo recommended! I was too excited by all the make up Grin

EnidButton · 09/09/2017 20:13

I've depressed myself by joining in on the measuring legs thread and discovering I do indeeed have carrot legs. 😔 Skinny calves and ankles, big thighs. I'll tell myself it's because I'm all curvy and hourglass shaped but now I'm doubting my tight skirts Bleurgh.

This is why make up and skincare is nicer to discuss!

botemp · 09/09/2017 21:30

There's a measure your legs to find out what root vegetable they are thread Shock

Where is it? Actually don't tell me I've had a shit week health wise (another cyst rupture on top of the lack of sleep and now my period arrived a few days early, not really early but my prediction app seems off, am using womanlog, anyone have a better one? I've contemplated that Swedish one that's supposed to be more effective than birth control but am still sceptical despite the scientific research backing it). To keep myself sane I shall continue the delusion I have Barbie legs, like Barbie that is, I don't have dolls for legs Confused.

Olli, have you had a fantasy shop with Rihanna's new beauty line yet? I really like the look of it, especially the shade range and undertone combos, she may actually have something to match pale-ish me and my green undertones.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 09/09/2017 21:31

I have! I do like the look of the foundations. About to finish my MAC waterweight, not sure whether to RP or go for MAC studio sculpt. Decisions...

miffy2 · 09/09/2017 21:39

I saw the Rihanna Fenty range today...and I spent €€€! I had only just read about the line yesterday, saw a blogger's photos of the foundation range and when she told me they were actually on sale in my local Harvey Nichols (and that we here in Europe would not have to wait months for it) I headed in today to spend some money in advance of my birthday tomorrow ;) ;) Anyway the SA was very knowledgeable, very informative, not at all pushy. She had similar skintone to me (MAC NW15-20, cool undertones, prefers neutral foundation etc) and talked me through it all. I walked out €130 lighter but I got a perfect foundation in shade 170, a set of concealer/contour/highlight sticks that I can actually use (!), a primer and the lip gloss. Really happy with all of them.
My skin is normal to dry with underlying dehydration, and the foundation lasted beautifully all day. I went out to dinner at 7 and just applied a bit of powder. I am not normally drawn to full coverage or matte foundations but this feels lovely on. I will see how I get on over the next few days.
What I loved most was, I was sat at a round counter and on one side of me was a really pale-skinned girl with red hair, and on the other side was a woman of colour; I was sat in between and we were all being catered for. You don't see that too often. Foundation was €33 which is reasonable, and cheaper than MAC I think.
(I didn't go for the gold highlight...just not my cup of tea)

botemp · 09/09/2017 21:59

I felt that too in the online presentation, it was more than just a bit of lip service to appear to be inclusive. It's properly inclusive and thought out beyond just shade range. Unfortunately, no physical point of sale for me Sad

For all you got €130 doesn't even sound that insane. I assumed it would be Charlotte Tilbury money in Euros. Is it fragrances btw?

OP posts:
EnidButton · 09/09/2017 22:10

Grin Noo! That was just me realising that my leg shape is quite carrot esque. Teeny ankles, meaty Tina Turner thighs. But I've got over myself now. I had big thighs when I was a very firm perky 18 year old in size 8 tight dresses and they never bothered me then. I quite liked them actually. Still did until the tape measure came out earlier... So there's obviously something else bothering me.

Sorry you're having a crap health week. Ruptured cysts are so painful. Flowers I don't use a tracker app sorry but probably should. It is annoying when they're unexpected.

EnidButton · 09/09/2017 22:12

miffy That sounds like the dream make up counter experience!

Pupsiecola · 09/09/2017 23:38

Brilliant info sheet bo. I've just bought those little bamboo cloths someone posted about because a couple of my flannels are too rough.

Very happy with skin thanks. Really enjoying the new Vit C too. I put some on this morning then went to the gym. Forgot to put moisturiser on top but actually skin felt find without!

SheStoodInTheStorm · 10/09/2017 08:38

Hi all!

Can't keep up with the thread or your vast knowledge so I usually just silently say hello

Just coming to the end of my LRP toleraine fluide - are we still liking this? Doesn't fee especially fancy for £15 a tiny bottle but will repurchase if nothing better has come along.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the website (French pharmacy?) that had bigger sizes of LRP than the standard we get there? Was a few threads ago I think

Skincare is still really pared down
AM - LRP cleanser, serozinc, possible serum then moisturiser
PM - oil or balm cleanse, second cleanse, serozinc, oil/moisturiser/mask.

Would love to get into acids again but I don't think they work well with my spots.

@EnidButton glad you're still enjoying the cicaplast!

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2017 08:43

She - link here Smile I got the duo of the LRP cleanser
https://www.easyparapharmacie.com

botemp · 10/09/2017 08:54

LRP Dermo Cleanser still a firm favourite on here but it has been joined by the Avene Extremely Gentle Cleansing Lotion. However, if you'd like to get into acids again but not with the same severity you could consider a salycilic acid cleanser, good for spots, inflammation, and oily skin. There's a few getting on quite well with the CosRx Low pH Morning Cleanser (can also be used at night) that has a very gentle version of BHA.

Pupsie, which bamboo flannels did you get? I've always liked the ones by Aurelia which are also Bamboo but they're not the cheapest.

Thanks @Ollivander84 and @botemp

Much appreciated Smile

Will take a look at that cleanser! Is the toleraine still good?
