Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7 Thread 8

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

NEW ADDITIONS since last thread:

Do I Really Need to Wear Sunscreen Every Single Day of the Year?

Understanding Which Sunscreen(s) to Buy

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

AUGUST 2017: Sunscreen is pretty much non-negotiable at the moment (not that it’s ever not Wink), RL bumps have been met in the road for some, unfortunately. Grief sucks but we do our best to offer a bit of comfort even if it is just something as inane as skincare chat Smile. Some of us are lucky enough to be nerding out in French pharmacies whilst pretending to do that holiday thing, the Shelf Porn Off is still on…

I can't believe we're on thread 9 Shock

PK not ok

yongnian · 26/08/2017 19:41

Hmm hmm yes the Chanel does look good....why didn't either of us have a go of it when we were both in the land of Chanel??? Darn it....

botemp · 26/08/2017 20:33

I had a bit of a play with bronzers this afternoon. Dior v. unimpressive. VB for EL was apparently limited edition. The Chanel is very promising, not overly shimmery but lovely and glowy anyhow. I'm just struggling a bit with the format, it's a very hard cream that's difficult to work with. Had it been in a stick format it would be perfect but alas. Will be looking at some YT for inspiration on it tonight. I also really liked the Sensai bronzing gel, looks to be the same as the Tom Ford bronzing gel so I can ignore that one. It'll be easier to use though, just smear all over face without any skill but it is less precise as a result.

Laura Mercier also had a beach stick like product but it was far too shimmery unfortunately. The face illuminator powders were really lovely though. SpaceNK must be lurking as I received a promotional email for sun kissed skin, the Nars Bord de Plage palette looks interesting it's sort of a selection of illuminating powders/contour/bronzer but quite subtle looking and I just want the By Terry Sun Designer palette because it's ridiculously pretty. Decisions, decisions.

What about Kevyn aucoin? They've got the celestial bronzing veil and the matte bronzing one
The neo bronzer is v pretty but not sure how it works in real life

mintmagnummm · 26/08/2017 20:56

Just bought benefit powder for brows, I originally went in to get gimme brows but the lovely girl advised that even the light shade may be too dark on my brows (they are very very fair) she put some of this new powder on them and I had it on the whole day to see how it fared, it looked really natural but did make a difference, even my other half said to me have you done something different to your eyebrows (he liked them) so I went back this eve to buy it! I bet I won't be able to make them look right myself tomorrow Confused

botemp · 26/08/2017 21:03

I had the celestial veil a while back and whilst I liked it I kind of want something cream or gel based so I can thin it out a bit and just use it for a bit of warmth. I also had a look at the YSL Sahariennes (sp?) which are absolutely lovely but they're a cream to powder formula.

Mint If a straight man noticed your eyebrows then it must be good. Grin Does it come with a little brush to apply it?

mintmagnummm · 27/08/2017 07:44

Enid I bloody hope he's straight I've been with him 11 years Grin, it comes with an applicator sponge thing and a brush on other end

yongnian · 27/08/2017 09:09

Ooh marvellous bo, nothing like some research in the field (I'm miles from a pint of milk, never mind high-end bronzers!)
Could the Chanel be worked with a beauty blender possibly?
Sensai sounds good...
Is the Nars powder only?
And yes Terry Sun Designer is very pretty....
I must say, I do have a very fine-cream textured blusher which is a really good matte bronzer shade, by a brand called Une....I was hoping to find them again to see if they did a bronzer proper and for more blush shades, but Monoprix weren't sticking them this year...might have a trawl online...

botemp · 27/08/2017 09:27

Ha! If a straight man notices my brows it usually means some counter attendant went overboard and I'm resembling Groucho Marx Shock

Well my YouTube research has revealed W7 do an identical product called something something bronzing base. I've looked at the INCI and it's pretty damn similar and reviews seem good on it except that for fairer skin it appears to be more orange than the Chanel but works the same for the not so pale. I'm sort of in between those too but I think I may just buy it anyway (only €7 must be even less in the UK) for experimentation purposes and see how workable it is with my current brushes. It's best used with a duo fibre stippling brush which I don't have a lot of and it seems too stiff for a beauty blender. I have one of those dense toothbrush types, I think that may be my best bet.

Oo exciting! Goes off to track it down in the uk...

yongnian · 27/08/2017 09:47

Do you mean this one bo??
www.w7cosmetics.co.uk/collections/w7-bronzers/products/chunky-bronzer

botemp · 27/08/2017 10:13

No this one:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00K7YQSV4/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1503824973&sr=8-1&keywords=w7+bronzing+base&tag=mumsnetforum-21

Might be an older product if it's not on their own site Hmm I do like the look of the one you linked as a beach stick alternative.

Hello
I need to stock up on lrp products
Does any one know of any cheap offers at the moment or the cheapest place to buy
Thanks

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/08/2017 10:33

Hi everyone, just checking in with some beauty finds - have been away for a few days in London where i found the TO shop in Covent garden.

Was a bit rabbit in headlamps but picked up a few things I wanted to try and also bought the serum foundation [I'm the lightest colour with pink undertones]. It's actually really lovely - not good I suspect if you need heavier coverage but I really like it.

Visited Muji and picked up some cosmetic organisers [I've also bought some via aliexpress.com in an effort to keep everything in one place - I like the one in your last post @botemps ]

I've bought a couple of new things from Paula's Choice - the replenishing toner for morning and the new SPF50+ Resist Moisturiser.

I'm testing the Missha Safe Block Sun Milk since my favourite Biore seems to be deemed indoors only :(

Just coming to the end of testing the Cosrx Morning gel cleanser [not got the name right] - I really like this and will probably buy along with the Hada Labo oil cleanser.

Hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of Summer?

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/08/2017 10:34

@purple15 Boots stock LRP and tend to do offers regularly.

Tantpoke · 27/08/2017 10:37

yong the Chanel one is a lovely shade (at least on my skin tone) The one I tried was very easy to apply with a brush.

I acid exfoliated my skin with pixi for the first time in what seems like weeks (been avoiding as it's summer) and oh my, my skin is just baby soft this morning. I only applied TO Vit C 23 after and LRP toleraine

It does seem to have taken me down a shade of tan but I suddenly felt yuck about all the dead skin possibly accumulating on my face so it had to be done.

yongnian · 27/08/2017 10:46

hmm yeah that is not on their current website, but looks good bo
tant I hear you on the dead tan Grin. What kind of skin tone/shade are you wrt the Chanel?
purple also have a look at easyparapharmacie for LRP offers...
grimdamn have you used the Hado oil cleanser before? Curious about it...

botemp · 27/08/2017 10:47

Purple15, easyparapharmacie always comes in cheapest and the shipping to the UK is free over £30 I believe. Although with the exchange rates as they are it may come out different. Escentual also often have 1/3 off French Pharmacy.

purple15 · 27/08/2017 10:53

Ah thanks so much
I couldn't remember any of the names

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/08/2017 11:41

@yongnian I managed to get a Hado travel kit from Ebay to try some of the range - I like the brand quite a lot and have also been using the foaming cleanser in the tube [not the pump one].
I've got the oil cleanser on the go at the moment - it's ever so slightly thicker than the Body Shop Chamomile if you've tried that?
It's olive oil/ jojoba based - www.cosdna.com/eng/cosmetic_31fe195370.html
Faint smell of coconuts to me - I like an oil or balm as a first cleanse in the evening.

yongnian · 27/08/2017 12:07

Do you use it before make up remover grim?

Tantpoke · 27/08/2017 13:49

yong i have the most common skin tone apparently.

So to give you an idea I am shade 20 in Chanel

108 in Clarins

Mac (which I never wear) I'm NC25

YSL touch eclat BR20

Bourgeois between 02 and 03

My perfect spot on shade is L'Oréal true match 2N Vanilla (this is in my car and handbag as emergency foundation when I'm running late) although it doesn't last perfectly all day but does a fairly good job with primer and powder

To give you a few examples Grin of what is immediately visible.

purple I have just stocked up on my LRP from escentuals

Ollivander84 · 27/08/2017 14:34

yong will appreciate my drama today. I went for a nice quiet ride round the country lanes on the horse. Pootling back home and I hear a noise so turn around. The bloody hunt is behind me Blush
So today I have joined in with my (and the horses!) first ever hunt ride. Accidentally. While wearing fluorescent high viz

GrimDamnFanjo · 27/08/2017 15:38

@yongnian
If I've worn makeup then I'll usually do this -
Bioderma - to get mostly eye make up off
Balm/oil - hot flannel
Sum:37/toleraine cleanser - hot flannel

The Sum:37 [sp] is the rose stick soap - I love it!
