Another grim M&S dress

Since I really enjoyed the pink dress thread that The Fail stole for an article I wanted to give you a head's up on their latest horror. It doesn't actually look too bad on the model but believe me it is Seventies polyester nightie chic.

Yellow dress

Jesus. Confused

I was in my local M&S the other day and the sale rack was basically endlessly filled with that horrible pink monstrosity.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 05/08/2017 13:41

I love itGrin. If it had a shorter, cooler sleeve I'd buy it.

herecomesthsun · 05/08/2017 14:13

I enjoyed shopping in the M and S on Thursday. I got a Rosie bikini, a great Rosie kaftan, another very supportive Bikini, a tankini top with good support that would go with some shorts I have, a smart wrap dress for work and some Autograph earrings for £41.

The "smart clothes" rail however was a polyester rainbow, to be seen to be believed.

theporcinegrappler · 05/08/2017 17:08

oh the 70's those far off halcyon days

Hepzibar · 05/08/2017 19:21

Well after me saying up thread that I have never seen anyone wearing any of these monstrosities. This afternoon I saw a woman on Oxford Street wearing the pink monstrosity. She was wearing it with trainers.

Dragonflycushion · 05/08/2017 21:16

Could be warm weather wear for Lollipop ladies?

NipInTheAir · 05/08/2017 21:21

hepzibar I now have a vision of pink as the new orange for the hari Krishnas Grin.

And the yellow frock adorning substantial pensioners possibly over their waterproof.

Priceless.

Nettletheelf · 05/08/2017 22:47

Agreed, if they had made that frock in sea green or deep blue silk, or white cotton cheesecloth, I'd have bought it and paid top dollar. The style is nice in a 70s Ossie Clark way. Why make it in custard yellow polyester? As a previous poster said, such a shame that M&S lacked the courage to make it in a proper fabric.

PickAChew · 05/08/2017 22:57

Even in a great fbric I'd want the elliptical hem ditched because that would only ever emphasise a substantial bust!

CoolCarrie · 05/08/2017 23:43

I think M & S have a death wish and they are going to go the same way as BHS if they aren't careful.

^ Spot on.

Refilona · 05/08/2017 23:53

I went to the M&S outlet and got myself a beautiful black wool coat for winter which had been on clearance for 69 pounds... and was now 19 pounds. NINETEEN pounds. How do they get things so wrong?

NevilleBennett · 05/08/2017 23:56

I saw someone wearing the pink dress today, and it didn't actually look that bad. Just very pink

Giggorata · 06/08/2017 11:50

Doesn't anyone from M & S read Mumsnet?

Hey! You lot! Over here! Your clothes are bloody awful
Read what where'smyphone said........

Can someone please whisper to M&S

  1. they are high street, not high fashion....address your market
  2. average dress size is 16
  3. average height of UK woman is 164 cms.
  4. average age of M&S shopper is.....don't know, but guess its over 30

go back to drawing board

Properjob · 08/08/2017 23:28

Saw about 8 of the Pink ones in the clearance section today...the fabric is truly hideous

LilaoftheGreenwood · 09/08/2017 00:10

It's the range I find so weird - you can still buy excellent quality basic cotton tops and from time to time a randomly great skirt or piece of denim, if it hasn't sold out in 3 weeks flat like most of their good stuff. But there is so. much. dross. The sheer quantity of stuff and profusion of brands is baffling. Every few years they seem to decide they're going to "simplify" and they do this by introducing yet another (usually short-lived) sub-brand.

MinesaPinot · 09/08/2017 09:17

I have to say that one of the young secretaries in our office has the 'Pink Dress'. She has just come back from Cyprus with the tan to end all tans, is petite and slim, and had had the dress shortened to knee length. She wore it with flat sandals and it looked really pretty. In fact, you wouldn't have thought it was the same dress.

That yellow dress, on the other hand, is truly yuk. If it was in white, shortened to knee length and with less voluminous sleeves it might have looked alright, but that custard yellow is horrid.
