Since I really enjoyed the pink dress thread that The Fail stole for an article I wanted to give you a head's up on their latest horror. It doesn't actually look too bad on the model but believe me it is Seventies polyester nightie chic.

Yellow dress

The fucking billowing polyester, frilly bits, embroidered bits, satin edging, embroidered swirly flowers to 'jazz' up a plain T and on and on.... Who is buying these things?

I never see anyone in these monstrosities. Do you?

badbadhusky · 04/08/2017 22:31

I never see anyone in these monstrosities. Do you?

We need to find out where all those mythical "shy Tories" hang out. I bet every one of them is hitted out in frills and floofy frocks.

badbadhusky · 04/08/2017 22:31

Kitted out...

TitaniasCloset · 04/08/2017 22:45

I kind of think with a few adjustments both the pink and the yellow dresses could have worked in a retro vibe way, like no polyester, cut a couple of feet off the sides, give it a waist. I can maybe see what they were trying for. But even the model looks dreadful in this one, it's much worse than the pink thing.

Are they letting the work experience edgy young fashion types just have free reign? Who is signing off on this stuff? Are they drunk?

Hepzibar · 04/08/2017 23:00

badbad they can't be that shy if they are wearing one of the psychedelic polyester horrors

OhTheRoses · 04/08/2017 23:06

Hmm. I can wear most shades of pink. I wouldn't have looked twice at the pink bastard even when it was reduced to £15.00.

The yellow. No, never, not if they paid me a lot

Properjob · 04/08/2017 23:09

A a a a a a r ghee! Trying to think of a witty comment but OMFG! PLEASE let's see it on you OP it will match this Halo

MargotLovedTom1 · 04/08/2017 23:11

You can just imagine the resigned chorus of "Oh fuck me!" from poor models when their agents tell them they've secured a shoot with M&S Grin.

hooliodancer · 04/08/2017 23:11

Christ, that is just unbelievably awful.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 04/08/2017 23:12

I kind of liked the pink dress. It would have looked good on someone tall and slim with swishy 70s hair. But this Shock

I'm not a fan of clothes shopping and don't do it too often. Went to the M&S site recently as needed some new reasonably priced leggings/jeggings/skinny jeans. Got some, all good. Had a look what else they had and the horror Shock

PickAChew · 04/08/2017 23:13

on holiday somewhere hot with a tan it would be lovely and airy and look nice and weather appropriate.

It's long sleeved polyester, ffs. It would be glued to you with sweat!

OrganisedMayhem · 04/08/2017 23:51

Awful
There are no other words

musicmaiden · 05/08/2017 00:07

livefrommysofa
I love the yellow dress, I was look at it for my upcoming holiday to the south of France.

Aren't they having a heatwave in the S of France? Seriously, you would boil alive. Or catch fire - the fabric is probably flammable!

You and Yours on R4 today had a short piece about the downturn in sales figures on the high street during the last month or so. The expert said ppl had bought summer stuff earlier in the year when we had hot weather and we weren't buying now as colder. Yes, maybe, but I think it's because there's simply nothing around to buy that isn't in a hideous style or print, viscose or polyester.

livefrommysofa · 05/08/2017 00:41

Musicmaiden - I go in 3 weeks, I think it's ideal for evening cocktails by the sea. I have a similar ossie Clark that I love. Granted I wouldn't wear doing my weekly shop in Sainsbury's but it's ideal for holidays

wheresmyphone · 05/08/2017 00:44

OMG: saw thread title: assumed someone was exaggerating. They were not.

Can someone please whisper to M&S

  1. they are high street, not high fashion....address your market
  2. average dress size is 16
  3. average height of UK woman is 164 cms.
  4. average age of M&S shopper is.....don't know, but guess its over 30

go back to drawing board

OlennasWimple · 05/08/2017 00:57

In a different colour and not polyester, I could see the dress working

EnidButton · 05/08/2017 01:02

In a different colour and a different material with a different hemline, a different length and a different neckline, some different sleeves, different detailing and a different waistline, it'd probably be ok.

hiccupgirl · 05/08/2017 06:55

OMGosh that is seriously hideous! I too, would do a double take if I saw someone actually wearing it.

Everything about it is wrong - very difficult colour for most people to wear, horrible unflattering cut and nasty fabric. 100% to M&S for getting it wrong.

taybert · 05/08/2017 07:10

I don't think any kind of naked flame near that dress is a good idea Flo!

bookworm14 · 05/08/2017 07:20

Good grief - it's like a rejected costume for Alison Steadman's character in Abigail's Party.

Floisme · 05/08/2017 07:55
Jellyheadbang · 05/08/2017 09:36

Omfg. Looks like something from a seventies horror film. I'm imagining it worn by Sissy Spacek or the woman who played Jack Nicholson's wife in The Shining.

GodIsDead · 05/08/2017 09:37

That must be from their new line aimed at the 90 plus age range.

Floisme · 05/08/2017 10:19

You must know some cool 90 year-olds God. They sound fun.

I thought the pink dress was irredeemable - grim on toast. But with this one, I think it's a shame they didn't have the courage of their convictions and make it in a decent fabric, although most of you would still have hated it. I have no desire to wear it but I'm still finding it very evocative and it makes me smile. I can picture Joni Mitchell or Anita Pallenberg wearing it - only of course they would never have dreamed of shopping at M&S which is a whole new layer of irony.

I actually had a long sleeved cheesecloth dress not too dissimilar only white, that I wore to parties in the sixth form where I snogged handsome boys and then walked home barefoot (because I couldn't find my shoes) with my friend. On reflection it was probably see through but never mind.

I'm missing the 70s now Smile
