Is there such a thing as a cool/stylish waterproof jacket?!

Going on holiday and need a lightweight waterproof but I cringe at the thought of an anorak/cagoule-type jacket. I bought a North Face jacket a few years ago that was quite expensive but it's a bit on the heavy side and it's red, which was a mistake...should have gone for black. So I've hardly worn it. Any suggestions, please? Smile

I'd like to know too

Userwithoutaname · 24/07/2017 16:25

I bought one similar to this last year and often get comments about how nice it looks .. different colour though. It's not heavy.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 24/07/2017 16:28

I got a good waterproof, breathable but not 'hiker' looking jacket from Joules last year, could try there. Otherwise try the more expensive outdoor brands - somewhere like Cotswold Outdoor will have a good selection - they tend to be less shiny looking!

I've got this m.millets.co.uk/product/purple-peter-storm-womens-parka-in-a-pack/002617/

Protected species do some lovely waterproof jackets.

QueenofallIsee · 24/07/2017 16:33

in my experience nope, no such thing!

Barbour is the obvious of course, its a very specific 'look' but has a massive following. Its not my sort of thing but you can't deny its cachet! Don't mock me, but I do have one from M&S (stormwear, I think) - I like it cos it makes me feel like Coraline

ParadiseCity · 24/07/2017 16:35

No! There is no such thing. Either stay indoors, get an umbrella, or give up caring how you look. Sorry Sad

Probably should have said I only have a budget of £45 max... Blush

I'm coveting this one at the moment. Not sure just quite how waterproof it would be though.

My sister got a nice 1 from newlook mine is a peterstorm and i have 1 from sainsbury it keeps me dry stylish and dry doesn't go together but my jacket is lightweight

BlondeGinger · 24/07/2017 16:50

Oh for goodness sake, that's not working! It's a yellow one from Joules anyway with a stripy lining.

QueenofallIsee · 24/07/2017 16:54

Have a look on Fat Face OP, some quite nice ones on there (no idea if they will stand up to hurricane conditions)

MrsJayy · 24/07/2017 17:00

I did a uturn out of fatface on Saturday 50odd quid for basically a cagul

imjessie · 24/07/2017 17:10

I've got one from Tesco which is a nice shape . Hang on I'll see if I can find it

imjessie · 24/07/2017 17:17

It's nicer in real life and is shaped so a flattering fit. . It comes in floral too if you like that sort of thing .

Bobbins43 · 24/07/2017 17:21

Any plus size ones?

runner2 · 24/07/2017 17:23

Thanks but it has to be black (plainer the better...!) Maybe I'll look at sportswear...

Try M nM direct dd has bought a few blackones from there

Floisme · 24/07/2017 17:31

I got a knee length coat from Seasalt at half price. They had jackets too and I think the sale's still on. I've not needed to wear it yet but it looks pretty sturdy. Some were a bit jaunty for my liking but mine is a suitably sombre grey and they had black stuff too.

I don't love it which I realise is akin to a style crime but it will hopefully do job. Why it should be beyond the wit of any designer to come up with a stylish but functioning bad weather coat I have no idea.

CrowOnTheBroom · 24/07/2017 17:35

I've got a seasalt one I love. It's not going to win any fashion awards but it has a bit more shape than the usual north face ones and isn't quite so utilitarian. Worth checking out their sale anyway!

HappyHoppy · 24/07/2017 18:56

I have a lovely Protected Species one. I saw Uniqlo do a simple shaped one that I'd consider if I didn't have this!

imjessie · 24/07/2017 19:15

That's nice happy .. looks like a Didrikson Thelma .

Itsnothingoriginal · 24/07/2017 19:38

I have a Joules Coast jacket and would totally recommend. It's completely waterproof and light and I get so many positive comments about it as they are lovely colours!
