Was just googling "petite maxi skirt" (seems to be a rarity) and Pilot came up as an option. Remember pilot?! Didn't know it was still going. Which then reminded me of similar store Bay Trading which I used to love as a teen. And etam!

Any others you lot remember?

Oh and if you know any good places to get a petite maxi skirt for a wedding do let me know, I'm really struggling here.

Another Newcastle one - Geordie Jeans!

sweetbabboo · 21/07/2017 17:50

I loved Benetton, have they pulled out of the Uk entirely? It always puzzles me travelling through Ireland to see ILs that there is still one in Naas or Newbridge, yet the one in Manchester shut about 15 yrs ago. Got v excited when I discovered one in Dubrovnik a few years ago.

I love C&A. A trip to the C&A store is always worked into my intinerary when we go on a city break in Europe. I got furry ear muffs with bear ears from the Alexanderplatz store on NYE 2010, still get brought out every winter!

ijustwannadance · 21/07/2017 17:55

Stolen from Ivor was for men i think.

Going back 25/30 years but there was a large shop in Liverpool Central station called Goldie.

sweetbabboo · 21/07/2017 17:58

Apparently there are Benneton stores near me, Wilmslow and Denton so I stand corrected!

Auldspinster · 21/07/2017 18:01

Dash is sold in a shop in Morningside in Edinburgh called Wilkies (which itself used to be a department store just off Princes Street but is now a boutique). Dash clothes were the last thing in chic when I started secondary school in 1987.

I had a lovely scoop neck red top from Richards too.

Jmangel · 21/07/2017 18:04

Oh my god Hyper Hyper - yes! I am now 18 buying a ridiculously cool cropped denim jacket with black high sheen sleeves and a lace up tie at the front that I used go clubbing in with NOTHING on underneath and high shine black hot pants - I thought I was IT!!
I remember Birmingham Bankrupt - ace.
Ooh and Shelleys - loved Shelleys.
Shoe shops in general are in short supply these days - got to go within clothes shops rather than a lot of dedicated shoe shops. I used to love Faith but now it's just a tiny concession in the dreaded Debenhams.

happyinherts · 21/07/2017 18:05

Sybil Richards. Not sure if that was the forerunner to Richard Shops already mentioned here - or whether it was just a shop in our locality. Either way, I miss it. Thought it very classy at the time.

OneOfTheGrundys · 21/07/2017 18:06

They sell dash as a concession in M&Co.

Magickl · 21/07/2017 18:43

Not a shop, but I remember buying loads of clothes from Lulu's range in Freeman's catalogue. I think they still owe me some commission Smile

chipscheeseandcurrysauce · 21/07/2017 18:46

@OneOfTheGrundys my local shopping centre had The Sweater Shop up until recently!

TheHeartOfTeFiti · 21/07/2017 18:59

Turret but maybe it was just a Scottish chain sold kickers, docs, cat & timberland etc shoes & clothes!

Anasnake · 21/07/2017 19:02

Fosters for men, Concept man was the male equivalent of Chelsea Girl, Barratts for shoes - is Oasis still around ??

Anasnake · 21/07/2017 19:02

And Naff Naff !

WhiskyIrnBru · 21/07/2017 19:11

Au Naturale and Internationale had the clothing bit. Pilot! I remember using my Christmas.money to buy a dress in the sale when I was 13. Felt so grown up!

sulee · 21/07/2017 19:18

Happy, I remember sybil Richards in Tottenham! Loved it there, the staff were so helpful! Biba in Ken High Street was the best shop ever though!

UsernameInvalid66 · 21/07/2017 19:18

There's a Pilot in Leicester (at least there was last time I was there, at half-term).

H&M is Hennes (Hennes and Mauritz, I think).

I missed C&A too, but when I went in one in another country quite recently, the stuff wasn't as interesting as I'd expected - all a bit frumpy really.

badlydrawncat · 21/07/2017 19:48

Lewis's bought out Owen Owens but then went bankrupt. They were then rescued by TJ Hughes, which also went bankrupt but was again bought up by another (smaller) company. So your Owen Owens and Lewis's are now TJ Hughes (sob). I used to love Owen Owen in Chester and Lewis's in Liverpool when I was a teenager - and many of the other names mentioned here.

Dancergirl · 21/07/2017 19:57

owen owen

Yes! I went to the Finchley one, with the old fashioned lift in the middle. The type of lift with metal doors you had to close yourself.

Dancergirl · 21/07/2017 19:57

Anyone remember a shop called Now? There was one in Brent Cross.

Dancergirl · 21/07/2017 19:59

Oh and I loved it when the John Lewis shops still retained their original shop names:

Trewins in Watford
Jones Brothers in Holloway
John Barnes on Finchley Road

Hairydilemma · 21/07/2017 20:04

Remember almost all of these!

Anyone remember when Next branched out and had 'Next Too' which was slightly younger trendier stuff (this was when actual Next used to be quite posh!)

We also had a Next to Nothing. And a Lewis's, as opposed to John Lewis.

Was there a jeans shop called Jean Jeanie?

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2017 20:11

Dancer I still talk about Cole Brothers (Sheffield) and Bainbridges (Newcastle).

BikeRunSki · 21/07/2017 20:11

Wasn't Next to Nothing just a different name for the Next Outlet?

LoniceraJaponica · 21/07/2017 20:14

Is Cole Brother snow John Lewis?

I remember Lewis's in Leeds, and Schofields, and Rackhams in Bradford.

woodhill · 21/07/2017 20:14

Ahh Trewins, was it when it moved to the Harlequin it became John Lewis.
