Are skinny jeans going to be "in" forever?

Are they still in? I quite like them and they suit me ok but they seem to have been in forever! I'm sure I heard about 5/6 years ago they were out, but they don't seem to be. Just idly wondering.

Also cold shoulder tops, dresses etc have been around for a while but now they are here with a vengeance. Feels like designers are in a bit of a rut. I suppose I mean high street rather than Paris/Milan etc catwalk.

I'm not remotely skinny but decent 'skinny not spray-on' jeans are far more flattering on me than flappy bootcuts ever were.

The reason I definitely think they're are on the way out (and I'm just talking fashion, not whether they're flattering etc) is because they're having to come up with more and more bizarre ways of making them look new and fresh. They've gone as tight as they possibly can, we've already had coloured ones and now we've got rips and those see through panels. It's like a soon-to-be-ex, desperately trying to win your attention and show you they're not really boring.

Not sure you can benchmark a cagoule against a pair of skinny jeans!😁

Cagoules are a functional item and not susceptible to trends and fashion whims like leg wear. They will definitely disappear because the fashion industry wants to to spend lots of money, so the quicker they become obsolete the more money they can pull in. This is what is at the bottom of it all. Built in obsolescence. And the fashion industry is the star performer in this are.

I'm actually glad they're on the way out. I have bigger upper body and slim long legs - I look unbalanced.

The point I was trying to make (and I've clearly made it badly) was in response to posts about how skinnies are a more practical choice than say flares, in bad weather. Which they are, but I don't think this on its own is enough to keep them in fashion - if it was then items like cagoules and fleeces would always be in fashion too.

And jeans were originally just functional clothing. The mystery to me, is how they've managed to dominate fashion for so many decades. Me, I'm bored with them all: bored with skinnies, bored with flares, had enough. I don't think I can blame that entirely on the fashion industry - people just get bored wearing the same stuff all the time, well at least I do.
