Graduation outfit

I really need some help in finding what to wear to my graduation ceremony.

It's on the 12th of July so expecting hot weather. Ideally I want a blouse which has detailing on the sleeves/cuffs to show through the gown and some on the front of the blouse as well. I don't want to be too boring and go for white so was thinking a blush colour blouse with black trousers?

Where can I find a blouse like this? I feel like I've checked everywhere, but can't find any! Prepared to spend about £30 on the blouse.

The trousers I will probably get from Zara; smart and tailored trousers and then for shoes a mid-heel (so I don't trip on stage). Does this sound like a good outfit? It's my first graduation and I'm also the first graduate in my family so everyone will be expecting pictures. Thanks in advance.

Having done two graduations (and got it wrong for both) I'd say the ladies who looked best wore dresses of one colour, nothing full length, slim fit. Not quite what you were planning but I also think it varies from uni to uni so ask around. First uni was much more suits and shirts second uni was much more secure dresses and frankly it looked fab with the gowns.

No beige trousers suits (graduation one) or full skirts (graduation two) Hmm

DandelionAndBedrock · 27/06/2017 22:22

Have you tried Uniqlo?

MrsLettuce · 27/06/2017 22:25

A simple, knee length, block colour, fitted dress does tend to look amazing. Long sleeves blouse and trousers risks being way too hot which is just horrid to deal with all day. OTOH you should definitely go with what you feel most comfortable with.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

relaxitllbeok · 27/06/2017 22:27

Just to check the obvious, are you sure about your dress code for the graduation? It doesn't require black and white?

MrsLettuce · 27/06/2017 22:29

this is just cream but very sweet. 10 & 16 left.

velvetroses · 29/06/2017 13:29

I feel more comfortable in a blouse and trousers...I don't like wearing dresses.

My uni have not specified any dress codes or colours just that it is smart and formal wear.

I have not looked at Uniqlo...will be checking their website right now DandelionAndBedrock

MrsLettuce that blouse looks lovely, I may order it

This is the one from Zara I was looking at
www.zara.com/uk/en/collection-aw-17/woman/tops/view-all/frilled-shirt-c733890p4705584.html (although i think the front part is a little too short and it does not have the details i want)

I will be going to Westfield next week to do some shopping, but im doubting i'd be able to find the blouse im looking for Sad

OP posts:
velvetroses · 29/06/2017 13:30

The ASOS blouse is completely see-through Sad not something i would want as I'd have to wear something underneath it as well

Remember you need to be able to wear a hood. That means you need either a button at around mid chest level that will stay where it is (not pull your shirt out of your waist band when you loop the hood round it!), or a shirt you don't mind putting a safety pin through (and again, either the shirt has to take the weight, or you can pin all the way through to a sturdy bra!) Or, you could do what the men do and wear a jacket with a suitable button. But don't wear just a slippery blouse you don't want to make a hole in, or you'll be stuck.

choppolata · 29/06/2017 22:24

The front of the hood may well cover up any front detailing and depending on how long your gown sleeves are you might not be able to see much of the cuff! As a pp said you need to wear something fairly solid that will hold the weight of the hood. For my last one I wore a plain shift dress but attached the hood with a blingy brooch that belonged to my grandmother.

velvetroses · 05/07/2017 13:16

Im kind of stressing out now...my ceremony is next week Wednesday and I have nothing for my outfit. Feel like ive looked everywhere but have not found the blouse i want!
maybe i need to lower my expectations?

You will be grateful in the future when looking back on photos that you chose the classic graduation outfit of black suit and white shirt. Trust me.

velvetroses · 05/07/2017 13:35

BlueSunset thats what i want! but the blouse i want is maybe too specific in that i want details on the sleeves and where the buttons are

found these, what do you think?

She looks stunning!

<a class="break-all" href="http://www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350060193.aspx?dim1=1&dim2=1&LGWCODE=35006019300010001210017;112805;6479&kaPt=affiliatewindow&kaTckM=pcwr&kaPcId=58244&kaAcId=222&kaTckId=79682&kaPgmId=1496&kaAdPtId=0&kaRdt=www.laredoute.co.uk/&omniturecode=Affliates-79682&utm_source=Affiliate%2BWindow&utm_medium=Affiliates&utm_campaign=79682" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this is far plainer than you want. Well, almost entirely plain, in fact. But, it looks to be sturdy enough, there are plenty of sizes left and it's cheap enough for you to have budget left to add the embellishments you want. Say, something like this, for example. It wouldn't cost much to have a seamstress to do it, if you don't feel skilled enough to DIY.

Or is that a daft plan?

MrsLettuce · 05/07/2017 20:09

Oh. That was the wrong blouse. Not sure what happened there. this one is a better fabric and less stark.

velvetroses · 05/07/2017 20:37

MrsLettuce I would love to get a blouse like hers it's exactly what I'm looking for! Been looking for what seems like weeks as well.
If I'm honest, I'd prefer buying a blouse rather than adding embellishments myself. It seems easier

OP posts:
velvetroses · 05/07/2017 20:41

Went to Westfield today and it seems like every shop is having a sale...and all the shops looked like a jumble sale 😭
I have no idea what im.going to do? Need to find a blouse asap

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 05/07/2017 20:51

Well, yes, it certainly would be easier to buy exactly what you want. Unfortunately that don't seem to be on sale anywhere at the moment.

I've looked hard, when you first posted and again today. I'm damned good at finding stuff, if I do say say so myself, but there's nowt to be had. I've not looked above 50 quid, but considering your budget is 30 then there's not much point. TBH I think you'd struggle even with a bigger budget. A few months ago someone was after something very similar (but beaded rather than diamante IIRC), it was a reasonably busy thread but, again, no dice.

Time is short and I don't get the impression that you feel like going topless under your hood and gown Smile

If your graduation is on the 12th you need to be ordering tonight really, or tomorrow at the latest. Do you have the trousers? Shoes?

MrsLettuce · 05/07/2017 20:52

*doesn't

MrsLettuce · 05/07/2017 20:53

My point being, now is the time to either compromise or improvise.

velvetroses · 05/07/2017 20:58

MrsLettuce at this moment im prepared to spend more....i know what you mean but when you have your heart set on something it's hard to compromise.

Trouser I have black ones from Dorothy Perkins and I will be getting mid heels from primark

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 05/07/2017 21:06

Honestly. Compromise or improvise.

this is the closest I'm getting. Daft price for what it and at least 3 sorts of wrong.
