Leggings under dress - ok or no?

This Mango dress. Cottony, t-shirt-ish, casual. But on me, a little too short. And I thought "Well I'll chuck some cropped leggings on" but I'm not sure now. Is this a bit 2002 or does the leggings revival right now include poking out from under casual dresses?

Cropped or full-ish length?

Or no?

This comes up often and it seems that putting leggings under a dress is a bit of a Marmite choice. Either love or hate them. I wear thicker leggings under shirt style dresses as I'm tall and dont like to wear short skirts. Some people say it is a huge fashion faux pas, but I don't see a problem with it. I usually wear full length leggings.

allegretto · 16/06/2017 21:39

I think cropped are ok.

Spudlet · 16/06/2017 21:44

I would. Saves frightening horses and people of a nervous disposition when I have to dive under bits of furniture etc after ds Grin

Rinkydinkypink · 16/06/2017 21:56

Got a dress very similar and my legs never see the light of day. Don't see the problem. It's a far better option for me than legs out shudder

Therealslimshady1 · 16/06/2017 21:57

It is a bit 10-years ago, but do you care?

allthingslipsticks · 16/06/2017 21:58

Cropped leggings should be fine.

Oddsocksforeveryone · 16/06/2017 22:00

I'm also tall and wear leggings under dresses as I'm pretty sure people would rather accidentally see my leggings than my enormous pants.
But I walk what can be a very windy school run, have small children, am pregnant and sleep deprived so I may make poor decisions.

Highalert · 16/06/2017 22:01

Who cares if it's 10 years ago? wear what you like. Being a slave to this years fashion is far sadder.

MirandaWest · 16/06/2017 22:02

I wear leggings with dresses. I don't care if I'm 10 years out of date really Grin

photographyaddict · 16/06/2017 22:02

I wear leggings under dresses to prevent chub-rub from my thighs and I think it looks quite cute :)

BloodWorries · 16/06/2017 22:03

I'd wear leggings with it. I think we all should then it wouldn't be so much of an issue... it would be the norm.
Do it, for all of us legging wearing 'weirdos'. We should all stick together.

Plus at the end of the day as long as you feel comfortable what does it matter what other's think is a huge fashion faux pas.

WhatInTheWorldIsGoingOn · 16/06/2017 22:05

I like it. I'm not fashionable though and go for comfort and arse coverdness every time.

EllieMentry · 16/06/2017 22:07

I wear cropped leggings or turned-up jeans under short dresses and like how it looks. I wear Converse with them, too, which I'm probably considered too old for by some.

Like previous posters, I also don't care if I'm 10 years out of date! I'm never going to be a style icon but I'm happy with that.

EllieMentry · 16/06/2017 22:08

I like the dress, OP.

phoolani · 16/06/2017 22:45

I wear leggings with dresses - well, footless tights with one particular dress actually. I wouldn't with that dress, it would be a very old fashioned, almost teenaged look I think.

BubblesBuddy · 16/06/2017 23:06

I just wouldn't buy a short dress. Leggings have disappeared from lots of shops unless you are 18. Hot too!!!

LockedOutOfMN · 16/06/2017 23:10

I wouldn't but there's no reason you can't, OP! Nice dress.

Brighteyes27 · 16/06/2017 23:12

Comfy and casual look with whatever leggings you fancy n converse, flats, sandals or Birkenstocks. Go for it.

dinosaursandtea · 16/06/2017 23:13

Oh god, do it. Get nice ones from Mint Velvet, they feel lovely and last ages (much better than the Primark ones!)

Nightwriter2017 · 16/06/2017 23:17

Am mortified as I always wear leggings under dresses in the summer and it hasn't even occurred to me until now that this is a fashion faux pas Confused. Must revise summer wardrobe.

Rioja123 · 16/06/2017 23:23

Go for a midi or maxi dress, leggings under a dress isn't the most stylish.

Littlelondoner · 16/06/2017 23:28

I wear them under shirt dresses layered up. But that is it really. I would not wear them under anything more fitted fashionable or formal.

TeachesOfPeaches · 16/06/2017 23:28

Horrendous

Luttrell · 16/06/2017 23:43

"Being a slave to this years fashion is far sadder."

Well you're a barrel of laughs in a style forum.

The dress is so casual I feel it would fall into long-t-shirt territory. I wouldn't do it with anything more formal.

'Horrendous' seems harsh, leggings are everywhere with shorter tops. Are you against all leggings?

TheDowagerCuntess · 17/06/2017 04:59

I am against all leggings, that are not being exercised in. Grin

It's a no from me, but who cares what I think.
