Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6 Thread 7

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. If you wish join us on this thread I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Where to Start

Basics of an Actives Routine

Skin Types vs. Skin Conditions Info Sheet

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

If you pose a question and we need more contextual information to answer properly we may ask you to fill in the following form. Please only use this form when asked, unsolicited forms will be deleted. Responses to the form can be found here

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

MAY/JUNE 2017: It’s summer and some of us are hourglasses (and otherwise beautifully shaped) that desperately need to bitch and moan about the severe lack of clothes available to us. Also, some of us are recovering from a ‘fine’ butchering to our hair. Don’t ask. Some of us suffer from all of the above. At least the weather is good, wear sunscreen.

Thanks Bo, I've had a shitty few weeks so may treat myself to the Verso and I'll look up those silicon plasters/gels and get some Cicaplast for my friend :)

yongnian · 13/06/2017 16:23

Belatedly checking in...oxidisation makes sense bo.
Also those stubborn little b***d spots that came after the last BHA use are still hanging around - not coming to anything, getting any bigger or fading....grr.

EnidButton · 13/06/2017 17:25

Love the HP pants Olli 😍⚡️ Glad it's healing well. Looks very neat.

Thanks for the suggestions Bo I think I'll try the LRP one first in case my skin doesn't like retinol. Then it's not much ££.

So this morning I spent 2 minutes peeling the skin of my nose like sunburn, only I don't have sunburn and it wasn't red. Just very thin and crepe paper like and it peeled off like tissue. Confused So now it looks a tiny bit sore, obviously, but I was curious how peel-able it was. Very peel-able apparently. It coincides with an illness flare up so suppose it must be dehydration or something.

Anyway tons of Vichy serum and Cicaplast has been layered on so it should sort it soon. It's just a weird skin issue to have.

EnidButton · 13/06/2017 17:27

Oh and thank you for the cleansing balm suggestions too bo Habe added them to the list of ones to look at it detail this weekend. Heads like mush atm.

userallusedup · 13/06/2017 19:35

Olli that is a neat scar, glad you're healing well.

Bo I'm tempted by that verso eye serum now but I really need to give LRP a better chance to see if it works, I am SO impatient with these things Blush I do have eye lines/crows feet (they are the only lines I have thanks to my oily skin) and I don't like them at all.

Enid I am joining you in the skin peeling off camp but mine is on my neck. It was red and blotchy over the weekend and is now all peely and scaly Confused The only thing I can think of that may have caused it is that I somehow 'transferred' ret to that area, but it's on my lower neck where it meets my chest so cannot see how it would have travelled down there. I'm also liberally slapping on the Cicaplast and it is helping, I love that stuff more every day.

EnidButton · 13/06/2017 19:39

User Do you apply it before bed? Maybe your pillow transferred it. Seems unlikely though. My nose is worse after my shower. Blush Hoping I can cover it tomorrow with powder sticking to the dry bits.

Hand bought a new loose powder from Lancôme. Haven't used it yet but the reviews were good. The shade I got is very pale almost white with a hint of pink. Looks less fine than I usually use. Fingers crossed as it was quite ££.

EnidButton · 13/06/2017 19:40

*cover it tomorrow without powder sticking to it!

userallusedup · 13/06/2017 22:24

Enid I usually do my routine fairly early on in the evening and I don't go to bed till late (I'm a night owl) so the ret should have well sunk in. I sometimes get this reaction from costume jewellery but it's a good couple of weeks since I wore any kind of necklace. So it's a bit of mystery really and a nasty one as it looks awful now it's flaking and peeling, but it looks even worse if I try to cover it up with makeup.

I've just seen that cicaplast do a cream for flaky skin, I'm thinking of ordering it

Ollivander84 · 13/06/2017 22:35

Enid - primark bargain HP pjs!

EnidButton · 13/06/2017 22:52

Good ol' Primarni. Grin I'm going to go on a special trip in Autumn just to stock up on pjs.

user I like the look of that. Your dry patch is a mystery though. Hope it's a bit better by morning.

Ollivander84 · 13/06/2017 23:31

They do great Harry Potter stuff. I got a comfy jumper too from the lounge section that feels soft and washes well

bananafish81 · 14/06/2017 21:46

Hi all, reporting back as promised following my second appointment with Dr Emma of Dr Sam clinic fame

I've been using the Skinoren and Treclin for a month now, not noticing any difference yet but it's only been 4 weeks so wouldn't expect anything yet. Not had any dryness or irritation at all - I thought I'd be feeling parched without serum, but actually it feels really comfortable. Directions said just to use moisturiser if / where I feel dry - in the morning I actually don't feel dry, so Dr Emma said fine to skip as long as I put some around my eyes as a barrier before the Skinoren, and just go straight to sunscreen. She said I should however moisturise once a day just in case of any irritation that might sneak up, so I'm applying moisturiser after the Treclin in the evening. Otherwise the routine is very simple - and my skin actually feels very comfortable

I'm using my leftover PC BHA 2% and Liquid Gold on my arms and thighs for my KP! I asked if one was better than the other and she said either was absolutely fine

And the main focus of Monday's appointment (drum roll)......I had my first Botox!!

Very light amount just around my crow's feet - I go back in 2 weeks to see how it's doing and can top up if needed. I chose to leave the forehead until I've seen how the eyes do, so I'll probably get a bit for my forehead creases (don't have an 11 to treat) when I go back

She said I shouldn't expect to see results for 3-5 days, but today I've started to see a bit of a change around my eyes, and I'm VERY excited to see how it develops. I'm already really chuffed as the wrinkles aren't nearly so deep as they were beforehand, and it's only 2 days so far.

She took before photos, so I'll get those emailed over, so I can compare with the after photos further down the line

JDSTER · 14/06/2017 22:35

Thanks for the update banana. All sounds promising and great to hear no irritation for you. Let us know how you feel about your Botox in a few days.

Pupsiecola · 14/06/2017 23:32

I'm pretty sure that using a lip liner is giving me blackheads on the skin side of my lip line. Never had an issue before and don't generally get them anywhere. Anyone else had this?

mintmagnummm · 15/06/2017 07:14

Thanks for the update banana

mintmagnummm · 15/06/2017 07:16

JDSTER was it you who recommended the soft n gentle deo? Unfortunately I don't like it Sad it started off well but then I began to get that whiff BlushGrin thank you for the suggestion though as u gotta try these things.

BaliBound · 15/06/2017 15:25

Haha yes bo my last username was goat related, they are my favourite animal Grin You have such a good memory.

Right I've got LRP thermal spring water, I've gone for the biore micellar water and yes, I'm stocked up on facial sunscreen! My Vit C is coming too. I might be going feral for 5 nights but I can't go without my morning vit c!

Oh and I have silky ends thanks to PK! I left it on for 2 hours Grinand gave it a real good shampoo/rinse after like you said enid and I'm really pleased with the results. I just wish I'd found this sooner.

EnidButton · 15/06/2017 15:42

Bali So glad you like it. It's so nice when you find a product that really works for you. I need to buy some more. I'll try leaving it for 2 hours next time too. Did you wrap your hair in anything whilst it was doing its thing?

BaliBound · 15/06/2017 15:58

Enid it was probably totally unnecessary but I didn't want to take any chances and I really couldn't be bothered to wash my hair sooner than that Grin I had my hair in a high pony and wrapped the pony tail in cling film. DP was giving me this face >> Hmm quite a lot during those couple of hours!

Dreamqueen · 15/06/2017 16:20

Thank you to everyone who gave me advice on here. I'm getting on very well with The Ordinary stuff that I bought ( Buffet, hyauloric acid & moisturiser. Plus I also bought LRP sunblock. Skin does seem to be looking better and has a nice glow.

The Japanese water stuff arrived finally today. I'm not quite sure what stage of cleansing to use it. is it after cleanser & before serum?
Need to catch up with lots of posts on here. Thank you again.

EnidButton · 15/06/2017 16:37

Bali That's a good idea. I try to wrap my whole head (Hair bit not my face! Grin) in cling film but it slides off. Doing a ponytail makes so much more sense. I'll try that thank you.

userallusedup · 15/06/2017 19:06

Thanks for the update Bali I'm considering Botox for my eye lines but not sure if I should just save up for an eye lift in a few years as also have hooded eyes. I'm definitely interested in further updates though and if you have any pics you are comfortable sharing.

Pupsie I've never had lip blackheads but I rarely use lip liner.

My scaly, peely neck rash is nearly gone. A work friend gave me a tube of pawpaw balm that she got in one of those subscription boxes and it worked miracles, the cicaplast was soothing but didn't get rid of the flaking but this stuff did! Way too greasy to use on my face though.

JDSTER my Biore bright milk has arrived so I'll be testing that tomorrow. Was surprised the tube was so small but it was very cheap so happy to restock if it's good.

BaliBound · 15/06/2017 19:31

Sorry user, I don't have Botox pics to share, I'm not 30 yet so I like to think I don't need it WinkGrin

userallusedup · 15/06/2017 20:23

Oops sorry Bali I meant Bananafish Blush your names having the same first two letters is obviously way too much for my addled brain to cope with Grin

JDSTER · 15/06/2017 23:00

user hope you like it. It's very much a milk. I'm still really liking it. Give it a minute to sink in and I think it makes skin look just a bit better.
dreamqueen I'm not sure what Japanese water you mean? Not watery essence spf?
mint I saw your post about deodorant before coming on here and thought "well she didn't like the soft and gentle then" Grin. I've got all three fragrances in that one and floral is the one I like least and I feel like the 'clean' one works a bit better strangely Confused
