Or maybe MNHQ could set up a sub-forum: Style & Sneer

I'm sick of the threads about looking mumsy, frumpy, too old for this, don't shop here, fashion no nos. Yes, I know I don't have to open the thread. Yes, I may commit some of these supposed fashion faux pas.

I just think there are a lot of threads started to make people feel a bit shit about themselves. And others to make the posters feel superior.

Lol at 'mean'!

As I said, S&B has made me obsessed with manky trotters, or horned hooves as they've been called on here. There are always threads about minging feet on here.

MissWilmottsGhost · 25/05/2017 15:03

I was measured by M&S as a 30E, the same at Debenhams and la sensa, I measure the same using the MN method. I only ever wear M&S bras because they are the only place I've found that does none wired t shirt bras in my size although they are now labelled 'my first bra' which pisses me off as I'm sure I'm not the only grown woman who doesn't like wires

That dress is a fucking monstrosity though, and now that I googled it, because of MN S&B, I keep getting similar stuff coming up on the ads Hmm

DustyMaiden · 25/05/2017 15:05

Didn't know what Salt Waters were, had a look. All the sandals I ever had as a child. Cute

OCSockOrphanage · 25/05/2017 15:13

Luffs S&B, because it's home mostly light-hearted and trying to be helpful. Just don't mention four-figure handbags unless you want to be advised on buying a park bench!

I like In the News threads, which can get quite heated, but rarely want to read very far on the AIBU or relationships boards.

Maudlinmaud · 25/05/2017 15:14

How many threads have we had now on "that" dress? You would think we would have reached saturation point by now but noooooo we are still posting about it. Speaks volumes.
It's OK to like it Buster you liked the shoes too Grin I may try it on tomorrow and take a pic in the changing room mirror like my dds do. It will probably be floor length on me Grin

BusterGonad · 25/05/2017 15:27

Maud I'm a sucker for a dress! My friends don't always like my clothes choices but it doesn't hurt my feelings, florals, patterns, drills and flutes and I'm there!

BusterGonad · 25/05/2017 15:32

Drills! Frills!

Maudlinmaud · 25/05/2017 15:35

I've pmd you buster. And yes I'm a dressy person too. Got a lovely one on today which no doubt someone would take umbrage to.

Floisme · 25/05/2017 15:36

I've certainly seen some posts that cross a line between honest opinion and sneeriness. Threads about fascinators and brands like Joules and Whitesuff spring to mind. But you see a lot of kindness too plus I like to know who the knobheads are although I never remember from one thread to the next.

Agree about M&S threads too. I don't like The Dress but it's still only a dress and I've seen loads of perfectly wearable clothes in my own branch so I don't really understand the rage. In fact, if I'm feeling mischievous later, I might start a thread about it Wink

In my head it's called Bile and Snooty. But that's what I like about it, it makes me laugh! It's all quite light-hearted, I think, and I couldn't give a shit if people don't like the things I do; I just assume it's because their taste is less developed than mine Grin

The M&S pink dress is the sort of thing I might like, if they hadn't got it all so wrong (polyester, length, shape of skirt etc.). I like this from Paul Smith; I'm sorry, I do. I know most people on here won't , but I think it's because they just don't get it Wink. Absolutely couldn't care less what anyone else thinks, especially when it's strangers on a forum, God knows what you all actually look like / are wearing, sitting there behind your computers Wink

It's clothes. And hair. And make-up. Don't take it so seriously.

BusterGonad · 25/05/2017 15:59

Maud you've pmed me?!? I've never been pmed! Where the devil do I find that then! 😂

Spudlet · 25/05/2017 16:00

That really made me laugh, and think of this Grin

I'm not being snarky and I do know what you mean, it just made me smile!

Maudlinmaud · 25/05/2017 16:03

Haha. If you are on the mobile site, click on the little person icon at the top right hand side of your screen. If you are on the app I'm not sure if you can get them.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 25/05/2017 16:04

In my mind, though; "Help me find a dress for this wedding" is a completely different kettle of fish to "are these shoes nice?"

I don't think I've ever seen someone get arsey on the first type of thread, while the second is often a complete free for all.

I post quite a lot on S&B and 99% of the time people have been generous of spirit and with their time. The 1% is made up of the same people who go onto Sali Hughes' column just to comment that we're all painted jezebels and that a scrub of carbolic is all you need.

Grin
Rhubarbara · 25/05/2017 16:08

Spudlet Grin

DeidreInaQuandry · 25/05/2017 16:12

Misswilmotts - I don't like under-wired bras either.

And I never knew it was a sin to show your toenails if they're unpainted until I found S&B.

Doobigetta · 25/05/2017 16:19

Please can we get the name of the board changed to "Bile and Snooty"?

BusterGonad · 25/05/2017 16:21

I'm on the app, ill log on via the laptop later if I get a chance Maud! 👍🏼
I wouldn't generally slag off someone's outfit if they were looking for help teaming it up, but I might gently suggest it isn't that great a choice, or make a crap joke like it's not 1989 anymore!!! I genuinely try not to hurt peoples feelings but I know in the past I have annoyed people!!! Blush

nuttyknitter · 25/05/2017 16:25

I've never read a S&B thread until today and this is only the second one I've followed. My impression is how shallow it all is. So depressing that people care so much about so little.

VintagePerfumista · 25/05/2017 16:29

See, had That Dress been Zara, (and when I saw it, I thought it was, because Zara is full of that block pastel identical sleeve/shape stuff) people would be oohing and ahhing.

But it's M&S, so it's automatically shit on MN.

As it's being hawked around all the bloggers in kingdom come and hailed as the dress of the season, I doubt M &S are crying over a few MN threads tbh.

VintagePerfumista · 25/05/2017 16:30

I do agree re the £££s thing. Seems if you are comfortably off, you automatically lack taste, and ditto if you're the other end of the £££ spectrum.

Unless you're a Cos/saltwater kind of woman, S&B can be a minefield, except the perfumistas of course, we're all lovely. Wink

Maudlinmaud · 25/05/2017 16:33

Vintage I ordered new perfume yesterday I was going to run it by the perfumistas. It has hazelnut in it.

AuntieStella · 25/05/2017 16:33

I think it's OK to say you don't like something - people are usually after opinions. But it's not AIBU, and so should be perfectly possible to say so in a normal, neutral sort of way.

I don't like seeing ageist threads, though. There isn't a magic switch that flicks at certain ages that means something that suited you the previous year becomes a no-no. Use a mirror, not a calendar.

Rhubarbara · 25/05/2017 16:34

nuttyknitter It's style and beauty. Hair, make-up, clothes. Of course it's superficial, what were you expecting?
