Looking at the outfits on the wedding guests I've just come to the conclusion that a lot of posh people have no idea when it comes to style!

youarenotkiddingme · 20/05/2017 17:29

I love the caption on one photo that says a lady wearing a dress inspired by traffic lights - and then goes on to label it "second from left" (or wherever it was).

I think we can work it out Grin

Longdistance · 20/05/2017 17:29

I love Pippa's dress. It's beautiful, and the detail on the dress on her back is stunning, so chic.

I like Kates dress and her sleeves, very classy and really suits her.

Can't say much about the page boys outfits, I'm on the fence with that outfit 🤔

QueenoftheAndals · 20/05/2017 17:33

The page boy outfits do look a bit twee but I guess they aren't uncommon in the circles Pippa moves in.

CharlieSierra · 20/05/2017 17:34

I think the dress is very nice and very staid. Pippa is not constrained by any form of protocol and is absolutely minted, so could have worn anything she liked, yet she chose to almost copy her sister. The silhouette is very similar to Kate's dress. All the acting like she's someone, and almost royalty is getting on my nerves; the gaggle of tiny attendants dressed like that, no colour to speak of, the almost identical bouquet to Kate's, it's all a bit try hard to look upper class. And she's committed the cardinal MN sin of having a two tier do so everyone whose going to the black tie thing later has several hours to kill in the middle. I must admit I was put right off when I saw the church gardener cutting the grass twice in the week before and that they took down the sign and cleaned it. Meh. Everyone else has to put up with the rain stained notices for last year's fete, why not her.

Silencio · 20/05/2017 17:42

I like Kate's dress better. Looks like a really nice ashes of roses colour and nicely cut.
But the styles are all in all rather elderly.
Ghastly New Romantic knickerbockers YUCK!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/05/2017 17:42

I also thought that Lady Gabriella Windsor looked fab

I agree - and has anyone noticed how very much she looks like Princess Alexandra?

Freyanna · 20/05/2017 17:43

Pippa has such a radiant, happy smile, she looks beautiful.

Her dress is lovely.

I like Beatrice's outfit too.

Bambambini · 20/05/2017 17:55

Elegant and classy. Makes a change from all those boring strapless dresses.

Yes quite!

WindyWednesday · 20/05/2017 17:56

A rather unfortunate photo of kate looking like she had two droopy nipples.

If you go to a designer and they you a bespoke dress it really should fit properly.....shouldn't it?

CricketRuntAndRashers · 20/05/2017 18:03

Bambam

Oh gosh, that picture Grin

I didn't know strapless dresses were allowed to be worn in churches in England (?)

herecomesthsun · 20/05/2017 18:07

I think there are good explanations for much of this.

Presumably Pippa wore what she wanted on her big day. I guess she could be called either too conservative or too brazen whatever she wore, someone or other wouldn't like it.

There seems to be a dusky pink or peach theme. If the boys were in pink trousers, then that would be even more embarrassing for them at teenagers than the colour that was chosen. The gold/beige colour goes ok with the pink.

No doubt Kate didn't want to upstage her sister. I don't see what is inappropriate about her outfit.

and so on.

Not a royalist at all, but I guess they are human at the end of the day.

CaveMum · 20/05/2017 18:07

I think it's only a High Church services (very fancy Protestant - think cathedral) and Catholic Churches where you are expec Ed to cover your shoulders.

I wore a strapless wedding dress (very tasteful one of course Wink) to my CofE wedding and nothing was said.

Bambambini · 20/05/2017 18:11

Cricket - wasn't aware of any rules, though don't know where that pic was taken. It caused great offence on FB one night when someone posted it in a wedding conversation and several were poking fun at strappess dresses forgetting one of them had recently got married - in all strapless.

YouWouldntLetItLie · 20/05/2017 18:12

I bet the trews on display were because the evening event is 'Scottish themed' and Rupert and Boggo decided rightly that they'd make one outfit do for both, rather than get changed in the back of the Rangie/village pub in between.

CricketRuntAndRashers · 20/05/2017 18:13

Cave
Oh, interesting :)! I'm sure you looked lovely :)

We got married in a protestant church (I had sleeves) and sleevless dresses were absolutely not allowed in church when I was little. But I wasn't raised in the UK, so...

It's actually weirdly engrained. We were visiting a little Catholic church in Italy this spring (not during a service) and I totally freaked out when I realised that I was wearing a sleeveless tanktop... My English DH was rather bemused.

TatianaLarina · 20/05/2017 18:21

I don't agree, she's the future queen of England's sister and it's one of the society weddings of the year, attended by royals. Media across the world will probably pick up on it, so I think likely feels that she has to dress demurely.

TatianaLarina · 20/05/2017 18:22

Afaik you're supposed to cover your shoulders in church, whether catholic or Protestant, high or low it's just that people don't bother with that any more.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 20/05/2017 18:27

Can you imagine if she's worn the full skirt and crop top combo that seems to be popular amongst brides today?? The daily fail would have had a field day.

No matter how good you look in a crop top your wedding day really isn't the time to wear one surely?

CharlieSierra · 20/05/2017 18:34

The actual Queen of England's sister wore a wedding dress which was the height of fashion at the time, so even she clearly didn't feel bound by the same restrictions. Smile

EachandEveryone · 20/05/2017 18:39

Was Harry even there?

Dailystuck71 · 20/05/2017 18:40

Yes he is there and apparently Meghan is going tonight. Allegedly. She is in London or was photo'd in London a couple of days ago.

MinesaPinot · 20/05/2017 18:59

I've only just seen a brief bit on the news, but I thought it was a beautiful dress and she looked stunning. Kate looked very elegant as well (but she generally does IMO).

I'm afraid I am one of those who will look at the pics in the paper, and have an in depth discussion with my Mum about it all.

That that ruin my MN cred?

MinesaPinot · 20/05/2017 19:01

Oops, I meant to say "does that ruin my MN cred?"

That's what I get for typing without my glasses on

CaveMum · 20/05/2017 19:12

Cricket my MIL worked as an au pair in Italy in the early 1960s an said she remembers nuns standing outside the church doors with tape measures to check the length of girls/women's skirts! If they were deemed too short you were turned away.
