Fingers crossed that your moggie is safe and sound back in the bosom of your family Vintage.

Hi Boglin, and welcome. I can't share the love for vintage Avon and you are safe from me bidding on eBay scores.

But will say that today's concoction, the PP dupe of Imperial Tea (By Kilian) which is lovely and mannerly on its own but safe, is lifted into perfume heaven by the addition of a quick spritz of Heeley's Chypre 21. So good, I shall probably repeat it tomorrow.

VintagePerfumista · 15/06/2017 20:31

I don't find Diorissimo changes very much from the mahoosive lily of the valley note tbh. On me at least it's virtually a soliflore. I do like it (in the way I like L'Air du Temps etc) as it shows that a pretty floral can be very pretty indeed without lurching into Pink Minger territory.

No cat. I have been consoling myself by trollhunting Grin We were told by one of the local cat lady volunteers that there is a black adult on a field nearby where there is a stray colony so dp went up there but there wasn't one single cat. Confused

We keep telling dd he'll definitely be back...

GreenPolishToGo · 15/06/2017 21:37

Vintage so sorry to hear Puss is still AWOL. I do hope he returns safely soon. One of my neighbour's cats (not the Six Dinner Sid but another one) turned up after three months away and he was as fat as butter when he came back.

Boglin I'd second Rive Gauche to give the impression of sophisticated and mature competence and efficiency in a job interview. Chanel 19 or Yardley Jade would also have the same effect, I think.

MrsM Tarts Knicker Drawer is a heavenly powdery scent and Oriane is even more so - I do hope Sarah Mc puts it in the regular line-up because it is much too beautiful to be a one-off.

Floofy no, just no, you couldn't pay me to wear those trousers! And I shudder to think what I would look like in them! I have seen a rather pretty Chanel No 5 bottle pattern scarf on Ebay - only I don't like Chanel No 5, so wearing a scarf covered in pictures of it would be a bit daft.

SOTD is a sample of Agent Provocateur Fatale which turns out to be a vanilla and chocolate scent. It's not striking and it's definitely not one for gourmand haters, but it's pleasantly reminiscent of fairy cakes. Hmm, now I want a fairy cake...

Yeah, I can still smell the diorrissimo this morning before my shower and it is 100% lily of the valley. I was buying a Jo Malone yesterday as a present and casually complaining that the sage and sea salt lasts about 10 mins on me. The sales girl gave me the whole 'I can never smell perfume off myself' spiel. Indeed. I have her a withering glance and asked if she had tried the lime basil and mandarin. That and pomegranate Noir are the bestsellers apparently.

Mrsmartell08 · 16/06/2017 08:10

I'm feeling rather Low today.
Thinking of jo cox, and the awful events in London. I always struggle to make choices when I feel like this So I'm going to let Ds2 choose my scent today.
Hope the cat has returned vintage.
I'm very pathetically excited about my Avon bids.
Hope everyone has a good day x

Puppylucky · 16/06/2017 09:10

Ooh my scent of the day was Agent Provocateur as well - the original one. Sadly I hated it - overpowering musky rose that hangs around forever - bleugh!

FloofyCat · 16/06/2017 09:11

Mrsmartell sorry you are feeling low. So many terrible events recently. It's very hard to hear the news isn't it, especially the last couple of days. I know this thread is a lovely cheerful friendly place where we discuss what may seem to be superficial at times but in fact I think it's really important that there are these life affirming and positive counterpoints to RL. I've struggled to word this (it's taken ages to type) as don't want it to sound insensitive or thoughtless so I hope it comes across OK. I actually love this thread for the sheer niceness and friendliness (which has spilled into RL for me) and it does make me feel heartened. I know we will all be thinking of anyone caught up in or affected by recent events, and indeed doing what we can in RL.

Now it will definitely seem a little insensitive if I move straight on to my normal inane witterings, so may I just suggest Lace for you MrsM and anyone else feeling in need of a comfort blanket. I myself am in Lace and still thinking good thoughts for your cat vintage.

I hope we all have a peaceful fragrant day.

Oh and green I think I have actually got that Chanel No.5 headscarf on my eBay watch list. It would actually make me less recognisable in RL I think as it would hide my pink Mohican which kind of gives me away Smile

Mrsmartell08 · 16/06/2017 11:37

Agree completely! ❤
I went for nightmusk in the end...lovely
I like the sound of agent provocateur!! :)

MrsCocoa · 16/06/2017 14:03

Thank you for finding those words Floofy. Awful events.
Sorry your feeling low MrsM. Flowers

MrsCocoa · 16/06/2017 14:04

you're

VintagePerfumista · 16/06/2017 15:26

Perfect words Floofy.

This thread is my comfort blanket.

No cat (word in the 'hood seems to be he's more than likely been catnapped by catlady in villa next door, she did tell me she hasn't seen him for a few days but her garden is (amazing) and like a jungle so I know he has spent a lot of time in there, apparently it's full of cats!) Am wearing Rive Gauche PP.

Whenever I see Jo Cox's picture I think of just how beautiful you could see she was, inside and out. Flowers

GreenPolishToGo · 16/06/2017 21:57

Floofy you put that beautifully.Flowers MrsM sorry you're feeling low. I think sometimes for your own sanity it's best to step away from the news for a bit. It doesn't mean you don't care - more that you care too much. Flowers

Vintage so sorry Puss still hasn't turned up. I hope your DD is coping. She must be missing him a lot.

Floofy never hide the pink Mohican. It sounds magnificent. I've always quite fancied dyeing the grey hairs green but I'm rather afraid of it all falling out. And I haven't got that much to play with these days!

Puppy what a pity about Agent Provocateur. I must confess I love it and it is so beautifully powdery I'm sure you would like it too MrsM. It's also super cheap if you buy from the online discounters.

SOTD is a sample picked at random - Majda Bekkall Fusion Sacrée Obscur. A bit too random because I hadn't read the notes before spraying it. If I had I might have realised that something so rich, heavy and spicy demands to be worn in winter not June. It is beautiful but just wrong for a hot, sticky summer's day.

A peaceful and restful weekend to everyone.Flowers

Sotd is Vogue, a decent Chanel No 5 rip off.

I bought Black Amber in a Marks and Spencer outlet for £4, it's OK but didn't blow me away.
I was 42 on Tuesday, didn't feel very celebratory after the events in West London. It was very muggy in Edinburgh so ended up dowsing myself in all the lemony scents in the niche perfume section of M&S on Princes Street.

MrsCocoa · 16/06/2017 23:20

Floofy - you'll be easy to spot at Somerset House then, even without our trousers Smile.

SotD: Chantilly (Houbigant) - powdery leather, musk and vanilla. Gorgeous.

I notice this week's offer at 4160s is Doe in the Snow. (Ideal for a heatwave..,).

Puppylucky · 17/06/2017 07:41

I am really sorry if my earlier post came across as insensitive and not caring about wider issues- Floofy did indeed capture my intent perfectly- but it still felt a little gauche of me. I am not in the UK at the moment and can't quite believe what's happening.
To execute another grinding gear change of topic Blush I was really disappointed by. agent provocateur. The combo of rose and vetyver sounded lovely and to be fair the final drydown (after about five hours!) was pretty but up until that point I felt that it was wearing me. Back in Addict today - I really can't get enough of it at the moment

Calminaqualm · 17/06/2017 08:31

Floofy, thank you for expressing it so well. And a big cheer for the pink Mohican!

Puppy don't worry, you weren't insensitive. It's almost impossible to incorporate the recent events into normal life, but we have to try, while trying to do our best to influence those who can make a difference. As an ordinary person, it's the helplessness I have to do anything which is so frustrating. It is very, very comforting the be able to turn to thoughts of perfume, cats, and pink mohicans.

I wore a pretty, refreshing scent yesterday, Yves Rocher's Fleur d'Oranger Lavande Petit Grain. It doesn't last beyond a couple of hours, but it's cheap enough to keep respraying.

MrsCocoa · 17/06/2017 08:38

Don't worry Puppy - Floofy is right; life is precious and we should celebrate friendship and the things that connects us.

FloofyCat · 17/06/2017 10:28

I'm glad my post didn't come across terribly and don't worry puppy as we posted at the same time. It's very comforting that this thread continues as a lovely scented refuge from the horrors of RL.

I love the Agent P perfume, rose-y and powdery are my ideal notes Smile

Vintage do you have Lick E Lix where you are? It outranks even Dreamies on the "crack for cats" scale in this house and if your moggy is nearby it might tempt him back? They know how to stress us out, don't they!

Green (and everyone else) thank you for encouraging words re pink Mohican Grin I fear it looks a little mid life crisis but have always had hair as bright as I could get away with in a professional job - when I lost lots of hair and stopped work the Mohican came about, organically as it were, and it makes me very happy. I do have a lovely selection of wigs and scarves for appropriate occasions too GrinThis is a perfect opportunity Green as Grey or silver hair takes the dye best

Calm the Yves Rocher sounds perfect for this weather, there is a Bronnley orange (and I think bergamot?) cologne type spray I like and which sounds similar. About a fiver too!

Auld where is your Vogue No 5 rip off from? I love a cheap dupe, don't we all on here Wink

MrsC I'm really tempted by those terrible trousers actually - and I don't wear trousers ever or even own a pair! I'm seriously considering getting them to wear round the house Grin

SOTD is Allure again I seem stuck in a rut but it's just so comforting to me. Do you think it would go nicely with The Terrible Trousers and Matching Headscarf?!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 17/06/2017 10:54

Morning all, teribly tired as i'm not sleeping properly at all. Lovely day though, perfect for getting my washing out on the line.

Spent a couple of hours yesterday trawling ebay, still can't believe the price for D&G Feminine so think i'm going to give the PP dupe a whirl.

wheres best for samples would you say? theres so much i have yet to try but i dont know where to start about getting samples

Mrsmartell08 · 17/06/2017 12:25

Lace for me today
I've just won 15 bottles of avon perfume...
😁

Auldspinster · 17/06/2017 12:26

The No5 rip off is by Milton Lloyd, they do all sorts of tribute perfumes.

Mrsmartell08 · 17/06/2017 12:38

15 bottles for £12....bargain!
Includes elusive and pearls and lace which i really want to try!

There may be a couple of pink mingers in there but I can foist those off on my sister :)

Judydreamsofhorses · 17/06/2017 21:11

SOTD is Heeley Cocobelle, perfect for a hot day. Hope everyone's having lovely weekends.

MrsCocoa · 17/06/2017 22:07

That's quite a haul MrsM - you'll need to post notes here as you work your way through them Smile. The ones I've picked up this year date from the late 50s-mid 70s and, much to my surprise, they're all interesting and wearable, with a number of stand-outs. I certainly don't get that strike rate in department stores.

My Choc de Cardin arrived today - a first adventure with eBay.fr. It's lovely to be reunited with the scent of my 20s. I still think this is really interesting. It's a dryish green floral chypre, with masses of musk, civet and sandalwood, along with the oakmoss and patchouli. Once past the aldehydes it's quite linear, one big complex chord that is striking, and feels more than the sum of it's parts. (It's absolutely nothing like Mary Greenwell's Lemon, or Eau de Sud, it's powdery and musky, yet it brings these to mind). Anyone else a fan?
