Wrap dresses - I thought they were supposed to be flattering

I picked up a wrap dress today (it's a plain black Boden one) and think it might do for my smart outing next month. Trouble is I feel as if it accentuates my slightly bulbous midriff area. Am I wearing it wrong? Perhaps it's just the wrong style for me, but I thought they were supposed to be universally flattering

Nope - they look cr*p on me as my bust is too big. Looked alright when I was pg as my bust didn't stick out as much relatively speaking...

Molesworth · 14/03/2007 17:31

Oh no mumpbump, I thought they worked well for large norked women?

I'm a tad mystified tbh - who do they suit?

I have one too and I NEVER wear it, moley. Mine makes my (not huge) arse look massive and my waist (I do have one) look weird and dumpy

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:31

works for my norks though (also big)

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:32

Truth be told I feel a bit matronly in it

Tutter · 14/03/2007 17:32

terrible for the wide of waist (i.e. me)

always thought they'd be better for the slightly (but not too) curvy

Molesworth · 14/03/2007 17:32

My waist looks dumpy too

So it's a myth that they're universally flattering then!

I am a size 12, with a waist, med hips and a big(ish) bust, it looks horrid.

Skyler · 14/03/2007 17:33

They look awful on me and I am a definate apple. I think they are good for pears????

Mumpbump · 14/03/2007 17:33

I suppose it depends on whether you want to draw attention to your bust. I'm a 34DD/E, but am size 8 so look a bit top heavy imo...

northerner · 14/03/2007 17:34

I have 4 wrap dresses and love them. I have a waist and small norks, though wrap dresses make my norks look bigger.

I ahve seen wrap dresses look great on larger women but you do need a waist and a long body I think.

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:34

I think the patterned ones are better, but I didn't like the patterns available so went for a plain one

Tutter · 14/03/2007 17:34

in fact i should give mine (boden, brown print) away

Skyler · 14/03/2007 17:34

I am a size 14 top and 12 bottom but with a thick waist (or just a stupidly high natural waist..). Crap on me.

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:35

My waist is high too, I think

TinyGang · 14/03/2007 17:35

I think the bold patterned ones look like housecoats.

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:35

maybe that's it

Molesworth · 14/03/2007 17:35

I really don't know what will suit me at all. The styles I like are all more suitable for an hourglass figure whereas I'm pretty much straight up and down.

OP posts:
DimpledThighs · 14/03/2007 17:35

like northner I have small waist but small boobs and a big bum. Also quite a broad back (38A bra size) and I have been told they really suit me, mainly by DP as he likes a bit of bum!

puddle · 14/03/2007 17:35

I think if you have a 'rubber ring' hips and midriff they look terrible.

Waist and flattish bum (although large and flat is ok) And you NEEED a bit of norkage - they look bad on a flat chest.

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:36

I am hourglass [even more puzzled]

NomDePlume · 14/03/2007 17:37

wtf are 'rubber ring hips'

[panics]

I have a lovely patterned one, looks almost vintage.

puddle · 14/03/2007 17:37

You know - when you look as though you have a rubber ring on.
