Wrap dresses - I thought they were supposed to be flattering

I picked up a wrap dress today (it's a plain black Boden one) and think it might do for my smart outing next month. Trouble is I feel as if it accentuates my slightly bulbous midriff area. Am I wearing it wrong? Perhaps it's just the wrong style for me, but I thought they were supposed to be universally flattering

Not to any clothes shops no!

I am wondering whether there is any way on earth I can justify buying a Vivienne Westwood skirt.

Surely it would last for years and turn out to be an investment?

I've got a brown Boden wrap dress which I have worn once as the material was so thin and I felt like a sack of potatoes tied round the middle in it. I subsequently bought a lovely much better quality one from Hobbs and wear this regularly for work - wouldn't wear it outside of work though. The only problem is that it tends to gape around the cleavage so a snug camisole is essential and the wrap around style does expose the legs - I'm always walking round holding it together which probably isn't such a relaxed look.

I like the check on the VW skirt although I'm not sure about the asymmetric hem

Might go for the black one - it's a wardrobe staple and I never get a chance like this to spend such outrageous sums of money on a single item of clothing!

Re: the Boden dress, the one I have is in a very heavy jersey, not at all flimsy, but yes, it will gape.

Good thing I only paid £3.99 for it

Phase 8 for wrap dresses!

Ah well I have ordered a VW pencil skirt (not the checked one though, it's plain black with the VW drape). I LOVE it. Found it very hard to spend that much on one thing though so it had better last for the rest of my life and be handed down through the Molesworth generations as an heirloom

I have a wrap dress from Boden which has been at the back of my wardrobe for over a year, I've never worn it as it makes me look matronly. Horrid. I have the Uttam dress linked by Fio in a different print and it's very flattering. I wear it over black trousers and with a cami underneath as the neckline's quite low on me.
