Wrap dresses - I thought they were supposed to be flattering

I picked up a wrap dress today (it's a plain black Boden one) and think it might do for my smart outing next month. Trouble is I feel as if it accentuates my slightly bulbous midriff area. Am I wearing it wrong? Perhaps it's just the wrong style for me, but I thought they were supposed to be universally flattering

Wide hips, thick waist, smallish norks.

On the good side got long legs and some great knee boots to wear with so could get away with above the knee.

No wonder I live in jeans!

I like those 60s ones annie, that's what I had in mind (now that wrap dresses are out the window)

LOVE that pretty summer dress but honestly I would terrible in something like that

I have a masculine aura or something - feel and look ridiculous in frilly feminine things!

I just can't understand how people wear dresses for everyday life - please explain....

A dress to me means the need for:

  • different/special underwear (smooth out bulges)
  • tights/ stockings or brown smooth legs
  • heeled shoes

and these are just not things which come easily alongside

  • a busy lifestyle
  • the need to kick a football in the park
  • walk to school
  • walk around the supermarket pushing a trolly

whenever I wear a dress I feel as if I should be going to a garden party and sitting about drinking tea

i love dresses but look awful in all of them. i am up to two sizes bigger on top though (16/18 vs 14), with a big tum which is probably why. wide shoulders, big bosom, v short waisted, no hips or bum, nicish legs 5'5".

i'd be pathetically grateful for any recomendations (but must go and dig compost now back in an hour)

what is a darimeya dress socci?

bundle · 15/03/2007 11:03

fio agree re: debenhams it's a revelation, particularly the Betty Jackson stuff

I think wrap dresses (or any dresses) are ok for kick about etc if you wear leggins underneath or jeans. they don't have look dressy iykwim
