Crossing everything BD - will you hear today?

Stropps, you have earned your weekend off - enjoy!

Hatty, DD has a Bluetooth speaker cube which works just like that!

motherinferior · 28/04/2017 11:16

I will get there 6ish tonight, I think. If you're not there I shall quaff a cocktail on my own, fighting off the advances of attentive gents, obvs.

Lalsy · 28/04/2017 11:21

BD, I am so pleased to hear that Smile.

Stropps, have PM'd you (and think I have replied to everyone who has PM'd me for linkee, so do chase me if you haven't heard). Good luck with it all today.

Magi, love the idea of codes for spies in newspapers, and the quote. I took delivery of some wireless headphones yesterday (so I can listen to podcasts while doing dull chores or at the gym) and to my astonishment they worked first time. Nearly fell off the sofa as Eddie Mair boomed out as soon as I clicked the whatsit..

magimedi · 28/04/2017 11:30

Crem - it was the Times, but am fairly sure the Telegraph has them as well.

Blackduck · 28/04/2017 12:13

I will be there at 5.00ish and will hang on for a drink with the 6.00 arrivals...... as long as I leave at 7.00ish..

Cremolafoam · 28/04/2017 12:14

How very George Smiley MMSmile these things please me enormously.

For DQ and anyone else thinking of Calabria

Italy-Calabria
Flights to Lamezia Terme direct from Stansted

Info: http://www.italia.it/en/discover-italy/calabria.html
You don't need me to list the incomparable history, as with everywhere in Italy, but highlights include the Riace Bronzes and the ancient city of Cosenza. You will be falling over interesting Roman mosaics and Byzantine castles. Because the places I've suggested are indeed popular with Italians, I've included more secluded accommodation where possible.
Tropea make a good centre to commence with hols:
We stayed here http://www.agriturismo.it/en/farmhouse/calabria/catanzaro/Santacinnara-2710332/index.html
Small selection of Air B&b in Tropea area here:

Things I liked
The Palazzo della Cultura in Reggio is big and well worth a browse and there’s more than you might expect, so plan your visit accordingly as the museum is closed for a long lunch, as I discovered to my cost ( 1-3.30pm) As for directions, it’s located at Via E. Cuzzocrea, 48, a relatively short walk uphill from Reggio’s landmark Aragon Castle. ( also worth a poke around)
On certain days during the tourist season, there has even been a free shuttle bus available from the Archeological Museum, so that may be worth the inquiry for sightseers who will certainly be visiting the famous Riace Bronzes when in town
Cantazaro Biodiversity Park which we went to as dh likes an eco thing.
The large park area is near the historic center, and depending on who you talk to, it’s either a short walk from the old town or impossible to reach without transportation. In reality, it’s a good half-hour, healthy climb up steep streets that lead from the old town, but in Catanzaro, everything is either up or down a hill. < too hot in summer, get a taxi> And the beauty of being perched up on high ground is that you’re surrounded by panoramic views over the rugged landscape and out to the sea.
Really lovely. Bring a picnic from town. ( bakery or Pannetaria in Via Vittorio Veneto, 26, 88100 Catanzaro, Italy) on the way up the hill.
Completely unexpectedly there is a modern sculpture park -even an Anthony Gormley. Totally incongruous with the usual nice t Greek offering hereabouts, but all the more mind boggling for it.
In Tropea we stayed here http://www.residenzailbarone.it/tropea/ for one glorious air conditioned night.you can book the restaurant terrace here too or a panoramic lunch.
There are a couple of gelato bars on the Corso in Tropeo one of which serves local sweet red onion ice cream , weird but amazing said dh.
Get down the steps on to either beach before breakfast for a memorable swim.

OMG you are amazing, Crem. Shock What a Star

DQ, glad you are continuing to lurk - hope you'll make a meet up at some point. Do post trivia, tis fun to read.

Good luck with fending off them gents, MI. Thinking of y'all quaffing this evening. Crepeys, I feel a name change coming on, what with the election looming and all.

MollyMugwump · 28/04/2017 12:21

Aaaaaaahhhhh....That's better. Meant to say, had a lovely mini-MU with Cloud yesterday. Thanks

motherinferior · 28/04/2017 13:47

I may have found another summer dress in the chazzerBlush

NUFC69 · 28/04/2017 13:49

Happy Friday, fellow Crepeys.

I wrote a long post yesterday which I seem to have lost somewhere - drat.

Crem, I was surprised to read that your cataract op was a bad experience: I know loads of people who have had them done and nobody has said it was awful. I hope they get the other eye done soon so that you can see better.

Lalsy, please may I have the link? Was it you who has just bought the BBH? I have the Petite version which is great on my jaw length hair, although I am now thinking of having it cut shorter.

BD, great that you did a good interview, everything crossed for you. And how are the boys now, BTM and BD?

Stropps, I hope things go well for you.

I have been out shopping and went to a shop which sells end of lines: picked up a great M &S coat for £20. However, as I got in the car I realised that the security tag was still on it so I went back inside. Unfortunately it was a Marks tag and their gadgets wouldn't work on it so I ended up getting a refund. Feel very let down which is stupid.

DH is out on his bike: Majorca on Tuesday for him. DS has already texted asking me round for a couple of meals, so I am feeling loved.

IDismyname · 28/04/2017 14:01

Lovely to see you too, MollyMugwump - can we abbreviate it to MMW ??

We waded through acres of fish pie and began to put the world to rights, but I suspect we'll need another go at it at a later date.

I am about to try out Lalsys link - fingers crossed it works and I appear out the other side...

MollyMugwump · 28/04/2017 14:32

Nah, just call me Molly, Cloud. Although I am aware that some dogs bear that name. Grin That was a lot of fish pie, I agree. We could in fact have shared one between us and eaten more greenery. We will know next time.

NU, that is a real pain about the M&S coat. Shit. But glad you are feeling loved. Smile

motherinferior · 28/04/2017 14:37

If you were any closer I'd have you round for dinner, NUSmile

Dreamqueen · 28/04/2017 14:37

Thank you Cremo you have a beautiful way of describing it. I feel there already. I'm off to look at your links now.

i'd love to come to a MU someday.

Lalsy · 28/04/2017 14:49

Please, please you two, do crack on with putting the world to rights, even if it means depleting the fisheries Smile.

NU, have PMd you the linkee. It is addle who has bought the BBH I think. I am wondering what if anything to do with my grey hairs - I think I am not ready for them. My knees, hair and belly feel older than the rest of me.

magimedi · 28/04/2017 15:00

Embrace your crown of splendour, Lalsy. Grin

I started going grey at 25, as did my mother & sister & was white by 40!

hattymattie · 28/04/2017 15:02

Back from lovely lunch with lovely friend- prawns but no fish consumed. Very low level putting the world to rights - mainly trivial gossip.

NU - DH has managed to get those security tags off with pliers and a bit of banging around in the garage. The garment fortunately remained intact.

Lalsy we had a big grey hair conversation this morning. I reckon it'll cost about 100 euros every 8/6 weeks to stop the badger stripe. I really don't want to go grey yet and I'm rubbish at doing it myself. I have told myself I'll go grey when I'm 60 ...

Lalsy · 28/04/2017 15:08

Maybe I should, Magi Grin. I always thought I would let it happen but now am quite tempted to experiment.... Hatty, a friend told me yesterday she did hers herself and it always looks fine so although I am a bit scared (see threads passim about my adventures in a lab when younger), I might try.

ds turns 18 tomorrow!

IDismyname · 28/04/2017 15:12

I am contemplating ditching the blond highlights and trying to live with my grey for a bit. Its never very obvious when they (high lights) do grow out, so I'm going to give it a go. I had my first highlighting session aged 21, and have not stopped since.

I know I'm darker around the back of my head, and my hairdresser suggested putting a 'wedge' at the back of my bob to make more of a feature of it.

However, I'm now just living with some rather yellowing streaks which just look rather unkempt. I may have to go and have it sorted to see me through.

I do rather like Fays' hair from MC - it had a touch of the blue rinse about it.

I am v excited to discover that I qualify for a Student Card for next year, so am hoping for cheap booze on tap reduced entry to some fabulous exhibitions that will extend my design knowledge to dizzying heights.

hattymattie · 28/04/2017 15:13

I always seem to miss a bit when I do it myself and it doesnt look so natural.

magimedi · 28/04/2017 15:18

I think it was because I was so young when I started to go grey that I didn't care. I was very eco warrior/rad fem/hippy & dying it felt wrong to me. I was lucky to go white so quickly and if I had started greying at 40 I think I would have dyed it.

Far, far, worse was the first white pube. Shock

Blackduck · 28/04/2017 15:25

I mentioned 'mugwump' in my interview today (so on trend me)

MM like you I went grey young(ish) so never dyed it....

Just done Russian Revolution at BL.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 28/04/2017 15:45

I have a touch of the blue rinse about me Cloud - except when I have a touch of the pastel pink! Another one who went grey young and never tried getting rid -I much prefer it now it's properly grey - I hated the in between stage - and used to get my hairdresser to dye it all grey (really!).

Crew hope you are recuperating nicely - love love love your travel tips. You need to do something with that skill - a blog? a custom tips service for cash? something!

Good luck to the Herby Songbird - what a fantastic experience.

Keep forgetting it's another BH Monday - hopeless, but means I'm thrilled each time I remember!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 28/04/2017 15:45

Fingers crossed for the job BD - and glad you aced it whatever happens. Have a d and s for me won't you? Cheers!
