When we hang washing outdoors (ie move the indoor dryers out) of course. And bras.

Given that one of my neighbours walks about virtually, or completely, naked in his garden^^ (I can see him very clearly from my office window in Hitchcock manner though alas he is not madly worth ogling) the odd pair of pants isn't going to give anyone the vapours.

herbaceous · 25/04/2017 13:48

That thread has me guffawing. I particularly liked the instruction to set fire t her neighbour's outrageousy pant-laden washing line to teach her a lesson.

Lalsy · 25/04/2017 13:59

Yes, I do, assumed everyone did.

Bras seem to me more personal as they show the shape IYSWIM - especially my Fort Bridge of a sports bra. It still goes outside though.

Cremolafoam · 25/04/2017 14:09

Yes of course. And dhs leopard print posing pouch for good measure.Grin

My pants are on the line as we speak.... as we are only overlooked by one horse, I think it's ok Grin my ddad always hangs his undies on the inner section of his rotary drier, then shields them from view with sheets and towels!

I can't do blow drying at all. I tend to open all the windows in the car and shake my head violently all the way to school - seems to work ok. Bit chilly this morning though.

All peaceful here at the moment. I did a 5k walk with one of my oldest friends this morning. I've known her since I was 11 but we wobble in and out of closeness. It was good this morning, so we must meet again soon. Found out one of my first boyfriends is single once more - always gives you a frisson of excitement, like they are going to gallop up and sweep you off your feet, swearing they only ever loved you Flowers goes along with whoever said 'all ex boyfriends should automatically become eunuchs when you break up and live in constant longing for you!'

wordassociationfootball · 25/04/2017 15:18

Your DDad is such a gent Beachy.

I dry some of my pants inside. Let's call them my Comfortable Secrets.

Thanks for thoughts. Spurred on by Rose's walk I had a Lady jog which helped a bit. Mainly, I'm finding several aspects of tge DM situation hard/frustrating/gloom making, but there a couple of other things robbing me of my self regard....it will pass...kobo, innit.

hattymattie · 25/04/2017 15:25

Our washing line is just a suspended piece of rope. I have been known to rearrange stuff that DH has put outside - mainly because he'll leave sleeves inside out or peg things in such a way that there'll be marks on the clothes. Bras do go outside but at the side near the house - at the moment I'm tumble drying because there is a magpie next just over the line and it's not worth washing everything twice.

Rose and Lalsy - good walking.

Have been looking at uni finances - I think that DD1 may slightly have overrun her budget. We were going to look at paying back some of her loan but as she's spent a chunk of the money she was meant to live on next year - it's not going to happen. She has assured me that when she's a city lawyer she will pay us back Hmm. Have accused her of going to too many balls and associating with rich knobs who have no idea about cash. Have pointed out that I needed to get a loan to buy work clothes so poor was I when I arrived in the big smoke.

bigTillyMint · 25/04/2017 15:34

LOL at not hanging knickers/bras outside. WTAF? We hang all underwear on the radiators inside or the line outside according to the weather and I couldn't give a fuck if neighbours like/dont like it!

Beachy that "You were always the only one for me" scenario from a first bf was exactly what happened to my DCuz!

Lalsy · 25/04/2017 15:36

No walking here (did do short gym class). I do like my fatbot for prodding me off the sofa though. WAF, glad you have up-perked a little - when is the interview? Could that be adding to other worries?

Rose and Hatty - ds is holding offers from your ds uni Rose, and your dd2s Hatty. I know everyone's experiences are different etc etc etc, we've visited both, courses both good, but if either of you have surprising insights into anything not apparent to the naked eye, I'd be really grateful for a PM. His sister's uni also in the running.

Lalsy · 25/04/2017 15:38

And Hatty, dd hugely overruns her budget but as we set it more or less randomly I don't know what to do. She spends too long on campus each day to live off cheese sandwiches and tepid tea from home and blessed friends keep having birthdays.

hattymattie · 25/04/2017 16:36

Ahh it was Beachy that did the walk. GrinAt first boyfriend - although weren't some marriages broken up by FB.

Lalsy you console me re expenses. Will have to talk her Dad round though. Re DD2's uni - you may remember she had a bit of culture shock at the beginning. She seems to have settled down and is much happier. She's at the catered college and thinks the food is very stodgy and is baffled by things like potatoes being served with pasta. Any specific questions do let me know. Apparently rubbish nightlife compared to Leeds next door but that depends what you want.

Lalsy · 25/04/2017 16:45

Food sounds ideal for my ds - the guy who asked about seconds at a recent open day Grin. Thanks, Hatty.

IDismyname · 25/04/2017 16:51

Bit late to the CC/BB creams, but I use this one - Superdrug

I should get me to Superdrug - half price, eh? I slap it on in a haphazard manner most mornings along with a slick of mascara and I'm ready to go.

I have celebrated my positive weight related compliment today by finishing off my Easter egg.
I am the Master of Self Sabotage.

I have, nevertheless, managed to be in the right place at the right time ALL DAY wearing the appropriate kit.

I'm with Beachys' Dad (- metaphorically speaking). My undies are on the inside of my rotary drier - or would be if it wasn't so bloody cold today.

MrsS - Dementia could well be the cause of the DM problems you're experiencing. Call DMs' surgery and tell them the situation - they'll either call her and explain they're waiting to see her, or maybe even send someone round to talk to her. Get yourself out of the equation and send in a third party.

My DMs' surgery were excellent at prompting my Mum to get in when she was all consumed with looking after DF. You won't be the first or the last daughter to call...

IDismyname · 25/04/2017 16:53

What are BBHs?

bigTillyMint · 25/04/2017 17:09

Can I ask about uni budgets as friends keep asking me what we are going to do and I have no clue! How much do they need/spend in addition to rent?
DD will be wanting to go clubbing/party, etc, but is also planning to get a job!

hattymattie · 25/04/2017 17:19

BTM - I do remember a big thread on this in Higher Education which I found quite useful. I think it depends on if they're catered or not.

Also whether they are in London. It seems about 400/month after rent is about average. We tried a bit less but it has crept up.

Lalsy · 25/04/2017 17:35

That is the sort of figure people talk about - but it depends loads on catering arrangements and also what you include (eyesight tests? application fees? train fares home?) and what you do about holidays. dd worked loads in hol between 1st and 2nd year but last year had work cancelled (not her fault). We have topped her up more than planned - but it felt like the right thing (sort of) for us, taking all circumstances into account. I dunno, the whole thing seems very complicated and hard to get a grip on (dd is prone to anxiety so that was a factor). She spent more on going out in 1st year ad more on library snack breaks third year!

BeachysSandyFlipflops · 25/04/2017 18:13

I think BBH is BabyblissHair thingy.....

We do 360 a month, which includes everything but not rent (which comes from maintenance grant). We stop the allowance in the summer hols, but she gets it through the shorter holidays.....she's very good tight and is always in budget Grin

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2017 18:16

Cloud - BBH is Babyliss Big Hair, which is a miraculous hairdrying tool, combining twisty brush with hot air. Addle, it will be the answer to your prayers. It's a bit of a misnomer, because it gives one swishy, bouncy hair, rather than big.

Auriga - I do like that dress, just my cup of tea.

Ill boy here too, Herbs, although he is rubbish at entertaining himself, and emerges from his pit frequently to update me on his latest symptoms and the current colour/consistency of his snot (I kid you not). Maybe he needs lessons from Master Herbs?

Regarding knickers on the line, there have been none here (or any other type of laundry) for a whole week but, hallelujah, Curry's appeared at lunchtime with my shiny new washer dryer. It is humming away right now, dealing with a considerable backlog. Only problem is today's wash programs are so blooming long! I seem to remember the machine at university rattled through a load in about 25 minutes, and I don't remember my clothes coming out any grubbier than they do now. How can an economy wash take over 4 hours?!

As I was waiting in for the washing machine (and had DM staying over) I took the morning off; lovely to have a leisurely breakfast with DM instead of rushing off at 8.30am. I then spent the rest of the morning traipsing round the village collecting trophies from last year's winners, ready for this year's pageant. Best Dressed House, Pub, Person and, oh yes, Pony.

hattymattie · 25/04/2017 18:39

CV mine is like this - I put it on before I leave for the day. There is a button to shorten the time if you're in a rush for your knickersWink

The BBH brush won't go through my hair - it skids off the top. There is also a metal thingy in the pack that works really well though.

CointreauVersial · 25/04/2017 18:42

Yes, I think I can press buttons and trim various bits off the wash programs - well, I'm going to have to! There aren't enough hours in the day.

Auriga · 25/04/2017 20:18

Addle, what BTM said and, as you finish each section of hair, cool it down with a blast of cold air (cool shot button on most dryers). Stops mine from re-frizzing itself straight away.

MrsS, you can contact GP to tell them things about DM. I emailed regularly about mine, keeping them informed of symptoms, medication needs etc & to request visits. She would always say there was no need but accept it when they turned up. It was easier for me of course, because she lived here. The deafness also meant she was happy for me to sit in on consultations. Sorry, I suppose that's not a lot of help to you Sad

Cold is much worse. In my jammies since 6pm. DD has had awful day, with friend misunderstanding. Sorted now but it was painful at the time. She was sick again before school yesterday. I think these things are connected. Cuddles and ice cream, then early night for us both.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/04/2017 21:11

Hatty - I separate my hair into thinnish layers for the BBH and it works a treat. I am a bit haphazard, but it always looks much better when it's done.

Auriga - I am going to call GP.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 25/04/2017 21:20

Ds2 back to school today - 5 more minutes of lessons then study leave then A2s then leavers ball then results then (hopefully) off to Uni - gulp!

He already looks a bit pale and tired and fed up.

Shameless displays of washing outside here - but not in these arctic conditions. It's bloody freezing here!

We give ds1 £450 a month (excludes rent) and pay some of his other college costs on top - but he can't easily work as his course is so full on and seems to involve revising furiously over Christmas and Easter for endless exams (but will do some work over summer) and is very tight frugal so has saved quite a surplus which we have agreed he can put towards adventurous trip in September (to Japan!).

IDismyname · 25/04/2017 23:21

GGG and Beachy -Are those monthly amounts for catered or non catered halls? Or are they out in 'real' accommodation?

Also are these costs for gritty northern/ midlands city or somewhere more southern and gentrified?

I've heard everything from £400 a month and that's in Catered halls Shock to £120 a month for self catering. The latter was given to twins. One girl and one boy. They were both pretty good cooks by the end of their first years, as instead of paying for food, they'd cook it for everyone else!
