Thanks BTM. It's not so much straightness as smoothness and bounce I'm after. I'll do the section thing and see what happens - my hair also excesivelyvthibk but the layers shld help.

hattymattie · 25/04/2017 08:01

Crem - can you get you eyesight sorted at the same time so you don't have to wear glasses?

Auriga - lovely dress - fancy it myself, although I'm trying to branch out from navy as it has occurred to my that my entire wardrobe is just this.

Addle - I can never get my hair the same as the hairdresser - although she practically puts the blow dryer on the hair which I think must burn it so it's not for every day. Pile your hair up and enjoy your break.

Cloud - Grin at slippers but nice of youngster to compliment.

Here, a dull drizzly day, shall clean, then go food shopping - oh joy.

Rosebag · 25/04/2017 08:20

Good morning Crepeys. I love that dress Auriga! Nothing like a new frock to lift the mood.

Addle I never achieved a decent blow-dry until the era of the BBH, followed by GHD's but only on the top layer so as not to flatten the swish created by the BBH. But then I don't have thick hair any more....

Grin at Crepey slippers forgetfulness, Cloud but nice compliment!

Lalsy my pastry takes fine but never rolls out properly...I learnt that thing Molly Cool hands, cool kitchen, cool temperament...I fail on at least two of those Blush

Reasons to be cheerful:
New client starting today and I have been asked to coach the alto section of a local choir on recommendation from I don't know who...yet.

Have sold two dresses on eBay and will be posting another two today. Paypal account is happy.

Beautiful sunshine here, if a bit parky. And off to the flat again inT-3 days...hurrah.

motherinferior · 25/04/2017 08:34

Oh dear. Spoke too soon about DD1. She came into our room crying at 4.45 which is totally unlike her, feeling stressed and ill. I took her back to bed and stayed with her. Haven't done that for god knows how long. She did look cheerier today...I'm knackered.

motherinferior · 25/04/2017 08:36

Blow drying is a total mystery to me. My hair is currently in its twisty towel thing.

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/04/2017 08:42

Addle, I'd second the BBH for swishy, smooth hair. It makes even my hair look groomed.

Nice dress, Auriga.

Pastry - make it in the food processor, wrap it and leave it to sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes and it rolls out perfectly.

Have never used a CC cream (creme?). How are they different from BB creams/cremes? I do have a Clinique tinted moisturiser, which is quite nice.

Mother still driving me mad. Her drugs will run out soon, so she needs to make an appointment to see the doctor as they will need to check BP, heartbeat and do blood tests. She has been told this. She thinks the drugs will just magically appear as if by magic before they run out. She has been told in no uncertain terms that she can't stop taking these drugs (blood thinner and heart medication), but it looks as if she is going to, as she won't make an appointment. She has been told to take the paracetamol with the tramadol, as this makes the tramadol more effective, but has run out of paracetamol, and "doesn't see why she should buy some as she can get them free from the doctor." Except she won't make an appointment for the doctor, so is now taking the tramadol on their own and is still in pain. I feel like I am past caring - she won't help herself, so why should I? She won't authorise me to speak to the doctor, put me on the car insurance (which would mean that I can take her out to the next village, to do some shopping, or for lunch in a nice cafe when I visit) or do anything to make her life a bit easier. She has shouted at her neighbour (who has been brilliant) for "bringing the wrong shopping" - she wanted full fat milk, not semi-skimmed, and also for going away and not telling her. She has also had a go at her only friend, who visits her and takes her out for lunch every week, so very soon, she is going to end up stuck in the house on her own, with no visitors and no-one to help.

magimedi · 25/04/2017 09:06

MrsS - you must have the patience of a saint to deal with your (d)M.

I think by now I would have told her where to go if it were me.

I can bugger up ready rolled pastry - truly.

Lalsy · 25/04/2017 09:14

Me too, Magi. I can turn it into a lump of grey cement, seeping slime. My modest pastry-making success should be viewed from that low bar - it sort of rolled out, stayed together, tasted quite like pastry. I freeze it for a few minutes then put in fridge.

MrsS, blimey. She sounds set on a path of self destruction - not sure there is much you can do other than make sure she knows the possible consequences - which it sounds like she does. I feel for you.

Cloud, how very cheering!

motherinferior · 25/04/2017 09:21

I think it's more she feels someone will miraculously come and sort it out and/or take it away.AngryAngry

herbaceous · 25/04/2017 09:57

Such a strategy has worked for her in the past, hasn't it (?), so I dare say she thinks it will work again. Is it too late for her to be taught that it won't always work?

At home today, with not-remotely-ill child. Two tiny spews yesterday morning, but school won't have him back until tomorrow. So, think we'll take the cats to the vet (again), potter in garden (me), have swimming lesson (him), do a youtube yoga vid (me), do some work (me), watch endless repeats of Police Interceptor (him), and feel I should make one of the delicious things from this Sunday's Observer (me).

I have a facility for making pastry, but CBA to make it. I wonder if I could hire myself out?

wordassociationfootball · 25/04/2017 10:12

MI - how kind you were to DD1 Flowers

Addle - watch a few youtube vids. You can do lots with a round brush. My sis has started blow drying with a round brush and her hair looks fab.

Mrs S - here's a new recipe: Allow the mother to stew in its own juice for as long as it chooses.
(that sounds very mean but... you know what I mean).

Good decision on the Korres Crem. I slapped some Superdrug own brand CC on one cheek and some Bourgeois on the other. Same really. Nowt special. Will try the boots soon. Am gloomy at the moment.

herbaceous · 25/04/2017 10:29

My attempts to blow-dry my hair with a round brush ended in entanglement and swearing. Not unconnected to why I now have it short.

motherinferior · 25/04/2017 10:38

Boots soltan BB also worth checking out and CHEAP.

Sorry you are gloomy, WAF Brew

Rosebag · 25/04/2017 10:42

Don't really understand the difference between CC and BB but can I put in a plug for Garnier original skin active BB cream. I wear it in Light and it's fab. And available in supermarkets as well as Boots for about a tenner. Hope the gloom lifts soon WAF. I am going to walk a 5k circuit round the neighbourhood in a moment. Lifts the mood I think.

Poor DD, Mi you did good to stay with her Flowers

MrsS your DM is alienating all the people who would help her. You need some distance from it at the moment. Essentials only.

herbaceous · 25/04/2017 10:43

DS is now playing 'detectives' with the kittens, Sergeant Jerry and Detective Sergeant Margot. It involves finding clues, finding the DNA machine and doing raids. I'll say this for having an only child - he's got damned good at entertaining himself!

Cremolafoam · 25/04/2017 11:21

Herbs, dd was on her own too, and really knew how to invent stuff to keep entertained.
Thanks for all assistance and comments on cc creams. The bb ( beauty balms) don't necessarily cover the same as the ccs ( complete coverage or colour corrector ) which are more like Ye Olde tinted moisturiser with a bit of slap in it.
I need to calm myself down about expensive cosmetics. I think I was whipped into a spending frenzy by the M&S advent calendar. I need to get a grip and go back to Superdrug.Grin used the last of the rituals body cream this morning ( sigh) ; back to Aveeno.
Ach blow drying drives me nuts. I cannot reach the back of my head, which is a clear design fault if you ask me. Round brushes are tools of impossibility in my hands. I can get 75% straight, with a kinky bit at the back.grr
Addle still thinking WinkGrin

MrsWobble3 · 25/04/2017 11:59

MrsS, this may be way off beam but do you think your mother might be developing dementia? What you describe re the medicines etc sounds really similar to MIL a couple of years ago. If it's a possibility then no amount of 'telling her' re medicines and appointments will work as she simply won't have the cognitive function to deal with it. I think the early stages of dementia must be terrifying - knowing you are forgetting and unable to do anything about it. MIL became simultaneously aggressive and defensive and unable to do anything but resentful of help that was given. Her illness has now developed such that she is unaware of her problems and consequently much happier and calmer.

Rosebag · 25/04/2017 12:07

crem I rarely worry about what goes on at the back of me, hair or otherwise.. because I can't see it... (explains the shock when I overheard someone saying I had a big arse years ago....)

I have conked out at 4.8 km and repaired to Costa for a cup of tea but no cake or panini as austerity eating started yesterday. So far so good. Not too hungry. Low carbs but only some of the time otherwise I lose the will to live. The bloat is easing and I'm weeing for England as always happens when I go on diet. Must get back for client...

motherinferior · 25/04/2017 12:17

MrsW that is an excellent point.

I am editing someone who clearly thinks my comments are because I don't get her fabulous prose. HA.

Cremolafoam · 25/04/2017 13:04

Rose, vga ( very good attitudes) to both carbs and ignoring of what is behind you.Grin

Mrs S , The frustration must be huge re dm. I can well imagine the patience required, having parents who are similarly enraging. Suggest setting up online access to pill ordering and getting friend to collect from pharmacy. Mrs W may have a point but given your DM's 'previous' , I doubt it.😐

OP posts:
motherinferior · 25/04/2017 13:21

Pharmacy should be able to deliver but she still needs it to be prescribed, I'd think.

bigTillyMint · 25/04/2017 13:22

Herbs/Cremo, I was/am an only and I spent most of my childhood in friends houses Grin

MrsS, MrsW could be right - I guess she has been assessed? If that's not an issue, can you alert the GP about the meds problem?

magimedi · 25/04/2017 13:32

On a lighter note, can I ask you all a personal question?

Do you hang your knickers on your (outdoor) washing line?

Ido.

There is a batshit crazy (& quite funny) thread in Chat atm & people are having the vapours at the thought of neighbours seeing their underwear.

It is 2017 & not 1817, isn't it?

herbaceous · 25/04/2017 13:40

We don't have a washing line, but I occasionally out the airer outside, complete with pants. I have no issue airing my (non) dirty laundry.
