Thought I'd start a thread for anyone who finds capsule wardrobes in muted tones tedious as feck.

Ditto little diamond studs and designer bags with glossy bobs.

I personally admire the style of Alys Fowler and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Also love a bit of Gudrun/Lagenlook and other cheerful offerings.

A successful charity shop rummage is a joy to behold. I like messy hair, well -loved clothes and making my own stuff too.

Anyone else?

I've a few pairs of fly shoes but I normally stick with dm's for boots. I just love the colour

mummysmellsofsick · 15/04/2017 20:53

Not sure I qualify as I seem to always try (and fail) to dress like the duchess of Cambridge, but I think I should go more in the quirky comfortable direction.

BusterGonad · 15/04/2017 21:08

I'm not as outrageous as some of you girls (and guys) but I hate it in Mumsnet when people say they have a uniform, or ask to be helped to find their uniform!!! It grates on me so much, I find the biggest joy of being a woman is the vast variety of clothes and makeup we have!

boldlygoingsomewhere · 16/04/2017 09:30

Love this skirt although it's a bit spendy and not really for summer! Just reminds me of how much easier I find it to dress in Autumn/Winter/early Spring. A year round temp if between 8-22 degrees would suit me fine. Smile

Really enjoyed reading this thread. I loved the goth/punk look in the 90s and then thought I had to 'grow up' but am now getting more experimental again. I wish I'd kept some of my clothes from back then!

I've ordered a few skirts from this etsy shop which I love.

I love this dresa from a shop linked earlier. Any ideas where I can find one that's easier on the bank balance?

Have also been looking for good geeky tshirts. Have tried Truffle Shuffle but doea anyone have any other good links for tshirts?

MrsGannicus · 16/04/2017 10:06

Link fails! Trying again.

I'm glad it's not just me that prefers cooler weather! I love all the tweedy/kilty stuff linked, I do very much love a Chanel 60s skirt suit look too. Mrs how are you with sewing, could you make your own from a pattern?

As I like shift dresses I really should make more of my own stuff, we have a craft shop nearby that sells the most amazing fabric - cats and Russian doll prints for example) and I know they would make lovely dresses. I don't have a machine though so my sewing is limited to taking stuff in or up, I'm small so pretty much everything I buy has to be adjusted!

Floisme · 16/04/2017 10:23

Mrs I tried on that tartan dress (or something very similar) last time I was in the shop about a year ago. It was stunning - very Vivienne Westwoodesque - Not helpful I know!

I much prefer autumn/winter dressing too and I'd be perfectly happy if the temperature never got above 20. In the summer (going back to Buster's point) I do stick more to a uniform because I don't like summery clothes (well I do but they don't like me any more).

MrsGannicus · 16/04/2017 10:38

I can't sew at all DisappearingDream but have thought about getting a machine and learning as I think the skirts on that etsy link must be quite straightforward.

Oh Floisme don't say that!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2017 11:39

Love the tweed skirt and the tartan dress.

In summer, I tend to go a bit more 'retro'/'quirky' and wear either rolled up skinnies with a bandana, or a full skirt, camisole and cotton cropped cardigan. I do find it harder now I've put a bit of weight on though.

reuset · 16/04/2017 11:48

Just marking place (sorry!). Excellent thread. My sort of clothes. I like to think I'm a bohemian dresser, but in reality I'm probably a very watered down version of one. Grin Will go through all the recommendations and links later on.

reuset · 16/04/2017 11:52

I love that etsy shop, MrsG! Good find

WelshMoth · 16/04/2017 11:54

Not sure if I belong on this thread because bright colours aren't my thing. I love this look (along with other lagenlook/pinafore type styles) and I used to look nice when my arms and whole body were slender and toned. Great with chunky winter boots in Winter, then el naturalista or Birkenstoks in summer.

Not very quirky but this is my summer uniform. But a coloured shirt as white make me look like shit. (And without the cigarette pack.)

I love the tweed skirts and the Vivienne Westwood-esque dress MrsG. And the Daily Prophet print skirt in the Etsy shop.

This is my outfit today. Scruffy, steampunk .

Great thread, good to see all the suffering tastes and styles out there. I like a dressy tailored look without looking too high st and have just bought this from a PP link -

Jacob - Where's your jacket from? Gorgeous.

matthewsmummy123 · 16/04/2017 18:27

I'm somewhere in the middle. I have all the classic jeans and white tee shirts but I like to add pops of color with my handbags and accessories. I struggle for inspiration as a busy mum so resort to social media but everyone wears black blue and white. The only accessions to this I've come across are Erica and Anna who both really like prints and brights!

Want to also say that this feed had really cheered me up so nice to chat with the girls. DH forgot it was Easter and failed to create the DDs egg hunt. All hell broken lose and he's stormed out. I'll make a new thread to discuss but thank you for some normality!

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/04/2017 18:29

Remus its new look from about 6 years ago. But Ive seen several that look very similar in terms of cut/aesthetic on ebay. RQ-BL do gorgeous stuff but it is pricey.

It's lovely. V jealous that you found it in New Look, of all places!

lasttimeround · 17/04/2017 07:47

jacobfryes I love the scruffy steampunk look. It's a great idea I love steampunk as sn idea but it's often styled to sexy for me and I didn't know how to incorporate it in a way that makes sense. Filing your pic as inspiration. Thsnks.
Also love the pinny dresses. I must try shopping from easy.
I'm currently very large round the middle and confined to match clothes until an op in July. So my clothes are v boring and uniform but I'm trying to bust out with accessories.

lasttimeround · 17/04/2017 08:07

I do a lot of bright scarves or shoes.
