Do you throw clothes away that have developed small holes in?

Quite a few of my base layer tops and other tops have those teeny holes in from machine washing. I think this is more of a problem these days as materials are getting so thin. As it sometimes happens to fairly new items I am reluctant to throw them in the bin! I think I'd wear them under a cardie/jumper, or if I am just at home for the day. What do you do?

I mostly still wear them.

I would probably still wear them - until the hole got bigger!

I machine wash everything and don't get holes in my clothes. Are they catching on something in the machine?

Have you got moths? I had one that lived in my utility room and would get into the laundry basket. Found him and now no more holey clothes.

It must be annoying Wtfdo. Are the holes in the same place, could they be rubbing on jeans etc?

I think it's my jeans that make the holes.The holes are always in the same place

Could be bra hooks if the holes appear on jersey knit fabrics. Just darn the hole and you're good to go! And do the bras up before putting them in the washer.

Mine are always in the middle/lower front of tops. They are caused by rubbing between worktop and belt buckle. Or the cats sitting on my lap. Bloody annoying.

I don't think it is moths. The holes are in similar places, usually where my top meets my jeans, so perhaps the button rubbing? I will try and do my bras up, hadn't thought of that thanks.

Are the holes at tummy level? This happens to me ALL the time, I've stopped buying expensive tops as it's such a pain. I've no idea how they get there... Assume they are catching on something but I rarely wear jeans or pants with buttons/zips.. It's a mystery

Yes jarvism sounds similar. Always at tummy level, never on the back of the top for example.

I always end up with holes at the back of vesty tops, usually at hip level, and only ever on one side.

I think ti's the constant tucking in that does it.

I wear holey clothes at home. If I'm having a good day, I remember to change them before I go out...

maud it is the caterpillars/lavae that eat fabric not the actual moth I think.

I sew them up, one tiny stitch. If it is visible eg centre front, then I only wear it under stuff.

I'm getting this a lot! Just put away some washing and three of my vest tops had holes near the bottom of the stomach. I had noticed one before, but I've kept wearing it under other clothing. These aren't the first tops though and not exactly old.

I normally just keep wearing them. Have one vest top that's really holey that I still wear (under another top).

Anything nice I take to a local seamstress. She will do a perfect invisible repair for five pounds per hole.

Nope, because I'm weird and have a bit of a phobia about holes in clothes. They freak me right out, especially in jersey.

I had one top that developed the little stomach-level holes I've read about on here. It was my favourite top but I threw it out immediately. Now I'm just really careful about what I wash them with - I do a "soft" load that has no zips, buttons or even harder fabrics like denim - and it hasn't happened since.

Try washing all of those soft tops inside netted wash bags. My friends swears by it as a means of avoiding bobbling and holes caused by the clothes being battered against the washing machine drum.

I would throw them away. I wouldn't wear stuff with holes in, even if the holes could be hidde.

Bras should be in a laundry bag if you machine wash them (saves your washing machine from stray underwires)

I put anything delicate in mesh bags to stop them tangling and stretching.

My new machine has the smooth honeycomb drum to stop snagging .
I've not had holey clothes but yes, I'd throw them into recycle.

I get holes too- had a spate of them recently- found one in my thin cashmere jumper this week that i will try see if i fix I think it is my belt and have ditched it just in case it is the culprit.
