I am sitting in glorious sunshine whilst dh gets me a coffee having had a fantastic morning skiing with a Very Nice Young Man. Life really can be good and I feel such an imposter on this thread sometimes when I realise the trouble and trauma you all have to face. Please forgive me and let me stay.

Stropperella · 08/04/2017 13:33

Beachy, pleeeeeeeeeeeease buy the dress!

wordassociationfootball · 08/04/2017 13:40

Yes Mrs Wobble you can stay. I think we all manage moments of bliss don't we? Coffee, gin, garden, connecting with family and friends....

NY continues to be wonderful. I feel like we've been here forever. Flying back tomorrow night. Mussing DH never been away from him this long. Sure he's finding it hard to look after v bouncy dd2 on his own in his current low state.

Best things about yesterday were tracking down a box of See's chocolates which I love more, than any other because they aren't too sickly sugary. We scoffed a heap at South Street Seaport. Then after a lie down, we walked across central park and spent the evening at The Met which was deeply wonderful. Kept things to 19th 20th and 21st c painting, but lordy that place is ginormus.

Worst thing about yesterday was not booking the Tenement Museum so it was sold out. Mind you, the bookshop was fascinating. I also overate to the point of injury. Two breakfasts, lunch and the chocs.

Beachy I do feel for you with the tsunami. Love the dress.

Cremolafoam · 08/04/2017 13:59

Beachy that is the nicest dress I've seen in ages. You have to get it. I fancy it meself, but feet for too much norkageness.
gFJ, I will be interested to see the Jaeger haul. Bought some stuff for my dm from that outlet at Xmas . The quality is unbelievable.
Mrs W please stay. It is not a crisis thread, just a place of comfort and support in ALL things including lipstick and theatre.

Continuing with bramble destruction thereof. Cremcat is gazing out the window longingly. Poor thing. I think another week indoors and then we'll let her have an afternoon out.

Lalsy · 08/04/2017 14:06

Beachy, pleeeeeeease buy it. That is about the most cheering dress I have ever seen.

WAF, it sounds utterly fab and just the ticket.

MrsW, was the Nice Young Man a ski instructor? Grin. Yes, do stay, we should all stay through ups and downs.

motherinferior · 08/04/2017 14:10

I will confess I've been eyeing up that dress for a while and am waiting to nab it when it goes on sale.

I did find a red merino white stuff number in the chazzer for a fiver.

BeachysSnowyWellieBoots · 08/04/2017 14:32

I might have buy a Hello Rabbi red bra too Grin Slightly worried about 'hod carrier knees'....

I also saw this skirt but as it's similar to about five skirts in my wardrobe, I shouldn't really!

bigTillyMint · 08/04/2017 15:34

Love the dress (though I too might worry about my rugby-playing, hod-carrying knees!) - there might be a few of us wearing it if it ever goes in the sale Grin
Skirt is nice too - looks very useful.

I am on the train home which is a shame as I had to say goodbye to my friends and it's a beautiful sunny day. Still, got to get back for dinner at friends tonight!

MrsW, don't feel bad - it is lovely to hear about others enjoying themselves. And WAF is right, we all manage moments of happiness amongst the crap!

herbaceous · 08/04/2017 15:38

What ho crepeys. I will be reading your collective wisdom about teens, exam pressure and how much parental load to add with interest. Just returned from sis's house, where eldest nephew has Eton entrance exams coming up, and has to do four hours revision a day. Dad is on his case, big time, and the pressure's starting to show. My sis is trying to be 'good cop', but is being shouted down by dad.

It seems a ridiculous amount of stress for a 13-year-old, but what do I know. The whole private school system is something of a mystery to me.

I must say, Stockbroker Belt does look rather lovely in the sunshine. And annoyingly, DS said 'why does everyone else have a bigger house than us?' By 'everyone else', he seems to mean 'his cousins', as most people we know live in standard-issue London terraces.

GoldFishJane - are you new, or a crepey in disguise? Re Jaeger discounts, I believe they're in big trouble, and are closing their shops. So such bargains need to be snapped up!

Well jel. DP is going next door for a bbq. I have to spend three hours in a dark church singing St Matthew Passion. I'd rather hoped him and DS would have come to see me, but no. Can't say I blame them, but still...

Cremolafoam · 08/04/2017 16:03

Shame Herbs, but best of luck tonight.
Id say a hello rabbi bra is a necessity BeachyGrin
Sun oot, forsythia and clematis planted. Dh in a heap after power tooling activities and a chain saw that would not start.
Have offended dm by text with an 'I told you so!' Kind of message that was very tolerant or kind. Bleuh.

Cremolafoam · 08/04/2017 16:03

Not very i mean

hattymattie · 08/04/2017 16:47

Herbs - good luck from me as well.

Was very impressed with DS who texted me saying he was at the Louvre. Turns out he just went to the shopping bit and did not go there seeking culture.

Gold - I'm in Paris which is beautiful today.

Collymollypuff · 08/04/2017 17:52

Stropps, there's a thread about dungarees on the over-40s...all saying go for it.

hattymattie · 08/04/2017 18:28

I don't think I could wear dungarees - I wore them last time round. I think I'd feel like mutton ...

Montypulciano · 08/04/2017 18:43

Has anyone mentioned Dexy's midnight runners? Smile my kids wear dungarees but I wouldn't as I think they might be a bit much on the large of bosom.

I think that lovely dress could become a crepey uniform. Gorgeous colour.

Mrs S how was your mum?

Cloud, how are you feeling, my darling?

Lovely day here. Dentist then pedi, followed by lunch out for dh birthday. 2 aperols later, I felt a bit lightheaded so indulged in a bit of drunk shopping then came home for a sleep. Gorgeous.

Ds has a piano exam tomorrow. Dh is moaning about having to get up early to take him. I expect he'd rather I took a day's holiday so he could go in the week. Given that I do all the medical stuff, ballet exams etc involving time off, I don't think 1 measly piano exam is too much to ask.

Cremolafoam · 08/04/2017 19:14

Come on Eileen.....

Auriga · 08/04/2017 19:30

Sorry to miss your St Matthew Herbs. Hope it's a great success.

hattymattie · 08/04/2017 19:31
Grin
hattymattie · 08/04/2017 19:33

Sorry - that was at Dexys wannabes.

NUFC69 · 08/04/2017 19:43

Ooh, Dexie's midnight Runners - lovely.

Am jealous of the talk of going out: DH and I spent most of the day working in the garden: me weeding the paths (I have already done the patio) and DH with the pressure washer cleaning said patio. I know the window cleaners will come on Monday so DH is trying to at least get the area by the conservatory done over the weekend. It has been glorious here, too, and I did have a dream about taking my car out with the roof down, but it was not to be.

Love the dress and skirt, Beachy, although I would look like a sack of potatoes in the dress. These days I need way below the knee length clothes as my knees, which have never been my best feature, are awful. Imagine great lumps as they both swell above he knee because of the ops, and at the moment the right one has a 15" red scar running down it. I hope you're a bit more cheerful today, by the way?

Enjoy your evenings, everyone.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/04/2017 20:55

My Mum is much the same, Monty, moaning about everyone and everything and determined not to do anything to help herself. So many people have told her how to take her meds, to write down what painkillers she has had, and when, and she just won't do it. There is only so much I can do, and if she wants to argue that she needs to take two of one sort of tablet, when it clearly says on the box, one tablet, once a day, then she can just get on with it. What is written on the box by the pharmacy at the hospital is not wrong, it is telling you what you need to take and when. If she thinks she knows better, then she can just get on with it. I've had enough.

No-one has made any food or shows any inclination to make anything this evening. I have said that I am not cooking. No-one can agree what take away they want, so I think I am just going to go to bed. I am tired of them all and I want a holiday. I want to sit on a beach, with a pile of books, swim in the sea, eat nice food and drink nice wine. I can't even have wine tonight, as DH drank it all last night and no-one will go out to replenish stocks. (I am refusing to go - I bought enough wine for the weekend, I didn't expect it all to be drunk in one night by someone who said he wasn;t drinking.)

DH is now banging ostentatiously in the kitchen.

LTBs.

Cremolafoam · 08/04/2017 21:38

Book a flight Mrs S. Honestly. If dds can't cook at the weekends, make them go and visit Granny S. Kill two birds with one stone, leaving more time for r&r. (red wine and roistering)
