Thread 4

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, 3, and 4 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one) so we're not being asked to answer to previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Haha, am i in sweden for once getting the better deal compared to Forrin? Maybe I should order something just coz I can? ;)

mintmagnummm · 09/03/2017 15:42

What conditioner do you use with these anti dandruff/scalp shampoos?? There's nothing on market for itchy flaky scalp and coloured damaged hair!

160A4 · 09/03/2017 16:16

email, wilting ? was thinking of a petition myself Grin . So flippin disappointed !

bani it looks as if you are indeed getting the better deal compared to Forrin! Go on, order something and tell us all about it to rub it in Grin

OpenMindedSceptic · 09/03/2017 16:32

mintmagnumm I am using the Aussie Three Minute miracle conditioner at the moment.

OpenMindedSceptic · 09/03/2017 16:34

160 yes I noticed that too (still available on swedish website). I did order last night and had an email confirming so I hope they will send it!

banivani · 09/03/2017 17:16

I see on the Swedish page now that it's sold exclusively in Sweden and Norway so I'm sorry for you all... must've been a glitch when the info went up in English.

EnidButton · 09/03/2017 17:25

Balls! Sad That's just teasing.

EnidButton · 09/03/2017 17:27

Any conditioner Mint, just keep it away from your roots.

botemp · 09/03/2017 18:45

I'm pretty sure Skincity will honour the orders already made. I've encountered it before that they have issues when introducing a new brand to the site, when Laura Mercier was launched on there I bought a few makeup brushes that were clearly the wrong price (€2-3 each). I fully expected them to cancel the order or part of it but they still fulfilled it and I even got the GWP which was probably worth more than what I bought (though I did buy some other LM things at the right price).

I used to order from the Swedish site all the time before I realised they did an English version too and it appears you can order the BR stuff through there without getting an error when entering your international address, even the currency was automatically altered. Though I can't know for sure it works unless I put in payment info and I don't really need anything BR right now. Someone else can have a go Wink

@macnab , sorry to bang on about it (I will leave you alone, I promise, my curiosity is merely peaked by the legalities of this) but where did you read it was legal to buy in Spain? I can't find any official information on it and from the English translation of the Retides Patient Info Leaflet it says the following:

4.1 Therapeutic indications

Photoageing:

RETIRIDES 0.05% CREAM

Topical adjuvant treatment for the reduction of fine lines, mottled hyperpigmentation and roughness of facial skin caused by secondary photoageing of the skin from chronic sun exposure in patients who are unable to reduce these effects through careful skin care and protecting their skin from the sun only.

. RETIRIDES 0.05% CREAM is not a cosmetic and should only be used by prescription and as part of an intensive skin care programme including teaching patients to avoid the sun and the use of sun protection and moisturising products.

RETIRIDES has not been proven to have a therapeutic effect on the most severe signs of solar exposure such as deep wrinkles, yellowish tint, lentigines (dark spots), talangiectasias (dilated blood vessels), loss of skin elasticity, keratinocytic and melanocytic atypia or dermal elastosis.

Also, please don't be scared away from threads like these. You merely jumped in at the deep end without a life vest and no knowledge of how to swim. It's pretty much the antithesis of what I tend to suggest people do here - slow and careful, and with knowledge of the things you are using. You're not the first, you certainly won't be the last and you aren't the only one on here with an unfortunate reaction to off prescription Retin-A use. I do apologise if I came on a bit strong.

Face theory has just launched a new cleansing oil.....

eversions · 10/03/2017 08:19

Thanks for the recommendations, Hollin! I had a look at the ingredients and they've all got a couple that can be clogging for acne prone skin, and I don't think I'm brave enough to risk it Grin Although I guess it's almost impossible to find something that's completely non-comedogenic, and you don't really know how your skin will react until you try.

hollinhurst84 · 10/03/2017 09:15

I can say Clinique TTDO balm has never broken me out and I have the worst acne prone skin! I don't tend to check as much with cleansers to be fair as I figure they're not staying on long
Heimish all clean balm is one that botemp recommended and I like

botemp · 10/03/2017 11:37

eversions, Clinique TTDO balm (or oil version) is pretty much what I suggest as the 'safer' option (though there have been some that don't respond well to it). As an aside, I wouldn't put too much stock in the comedogenic/non-comedogenic classification system. It's rather dated and the testing methods are questionable at best. Here's a good post on it.

I think I left the Origins one in because you seemed to get on well with it (?) and it isn't exactly the cheapest thing to simply dump or repurpose (though have been hearing a lot of people using cleansing oils as shampoo for dry/itchy scalps and/or very oily scalps). The Origins one has a lot of essential oils in it, not a trigger for everyone but that may be the issue, may also be the olive oil base. Clinique has neither of these so may be worth a gander. Erborian also released a new one on EPP with an interesting INCI for clogged/combo skin, including charcoal - which I had yet to see pop up in cleansing oils. Also has a few other interesting ingredients like liquorice root extract, though I wonder how much use that is in a wash off product.

mintmagnummm · 10/03/2017 12:36

Eversions im one of those who cannot use Clinique balm, I almost finished a tub once and thought I'd found 'the one' but it started to dry out my skin and break me out grrrr!

Bo have you checked out the face theory cleansing oil, how do the ingredients sound to you?

Shop · 10/03/2017 13:00

I use the Facetheory Regenecalm mint I really like it so far, just getting to the end of my first bottle and its replacement arrived this morning 😊
I saw they'd launched a cleansing oil but I'm hanging on at the moment as my skin really seems much more fussy about cleansers than stuff I leave on! 🙄

wiltingfast · 10/03/2017 13:48

Hmm, I think the p50w may just be too strong an acid for me. Used it on Wednesday and the tip of my nose is sore today. And pink. Fabulous darling Grin

On the other hand I used it all over on some skin which was a bit rashy from too much LRP redermic, and it has definitely calmed it down. It took me a while to notice what was causing the rash around my mouth as I've been using the redermic for WEEKS. With no bother. Or so I thought.

It's the one for the eys, and I had, >sigh

mintmagnummm · 10/03/2017 13:56

Shop thank you, I really am tempted by the regenecalm! But my skin is ridiculously sensitive and 'fussy'! Do you use any other of their products? What skin type do u have? I'm really loving their relaxing night cream and signature moisturiser

EnidButton · 10/03/2017 15:02

Ever I also get breakouts from TTDO balm. Have gone back to it a couple of times to check and it's definitely not one for me. Pretty much an instant next day thing.

Wilting I haven't purchased yet because I haven't finished testing it on different parts of my face yet. I'm taking the exremely slow approach to everything new as on the past I've got myself confused trying to work out what was causing breakouts or dryness etc. This way I can judge each item properly. I'm almost out of the decant now though so will decide soon. Wish there was a website where you could just buy it without the 3rd degree though. I get why but...

eversions · 10/03/2017 15:13

Ah, thanks ladies! I guess this proves a product can work for some, but not others. Does Clinique do samples at all?

I get along fine with the Origins oil, but it's the only oil cleanser I've ever used, so I guess I've got nothing to compare it to if that makes sense? I was just getting a little frustrated with my clogged skin, all the bumps and little spots that I've had for so long, and wondering what could be causing it all, so I grabbed onto the cleanser being a potential culprit. I know there's plenty of other factors that could be the root cause of it though.

I also really liked that article, bo, thanks! It now seems so obvious that the ingredients would be diluted in a product, but it just never even crossed my mind to think of it that way. Never heard of the Erborian brand before either, will check that cleansing oil out!

Pupsiecola · 10/03/2017 15:51

What do people think of Neal's Yard? Are there any stand out products? I used to use the Wild Rose Beauty Balm a few years ago and in fact it helped with my rosacea/seb derm (GP even put that in referral letter to dermatologist). I'm specifically looking for a really good moisturiser to use when my skin feels drier than usual. I have re-ordered the Face Theory but got the M2 instead of the M1. But having not tried anything new for a while I'm looking to try something a bit more intense (no need for actives though). (Wanted to get the Eucerin one recommended on here but they didn't have it in Boots).

Also, anyone tried the Body Shop aloe vera moisturisers?

Thanks.

mintmagnummm · 10/03/2017 15:57

Pupsie I didn't like the body shop aloe creams at all! But to be honest I don't like any of the body shop skincare...

eversions, Clinique usually are good with samples but I'm not sure with those products. They do have a very good exchange/returns policy if a product causes reaction.

I've always found Neal's Yard moisturisers too heavy personally but it may be just the thing for you in that case, Pupsie. Think the Frankincense one is well liked and the Rose one for more dry mature skin. Rose is generally meant to be soothing for sensitive skin and/or rosacea, provided fragrant oils aren't an issue. The Rose oil is also well liked from NY which you could contemplate mixing in with moisturiser to richen it up a bit.
