Weird Mrs S - please could you - you seem to know what you're doing. Thanks and see you next week xx.

hattymattie · 04/02/2017 09:39

Have found Sncf (wifi).

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2017 10:04

Hatty - I've booked it and we are in the Grand Brasserie (next to Champagne Bar at St P) for 8 people at 1230. I booked a la carte lunch, rather than set menu as that seemed easier - if people don't want much, they can just order a salad and pay accordingly, if others want oysters, salmon and champagne, ditto. Booked in my name. Real name, obv, not this one.

Stropperella · 04/02/2017 10:35

The happiest of happy birthdays, MrsS!

The happiest of birthdays to you Mrs S!
Hope it's champagne and caviar (or whatever your particular idea of indulgence is) all the way... X

Happy birthday, MrsS, have a lovely day with much nice food, wine and good company.

It's beautiful here and I am going to attempt to go to see Newcastle play this afternoon. This will involve a car ride, Metro, and long walk with my crutches (was advised this was sensible as I am travelling on the Metro). I can see that the walk will mean lots of stops for a rest: I am so tired all the time even though I go to bed at about nine and sleep until 6-7 o'clock.

I have several frying/omelette pans, but the one I use most is one I bought my dad before I got married (45 years in July - eek) and which I liberated from the house after he died. The non stick isn't quite perfect, but it does the job! It is lovely having new pieces of equipment in the kitchen, though.

MrsWobble3 · 04/02/2017 11:23

Happy birthday MrsS. Looking forward to meeting some of you next week. Could you pm me MrsS real name so I don't embarrass myself on arrival at the restaurant.

And I'm not so good news I'm afraid i'm going to have to bail out of dinner on 24th as it's the day of my uncle's funeral. My attendance is not required, and possibly not even expected but my dad was hit badly by his first brother's death and now this means he's the only one left so I want to go in support of the living as much as in remembrance of the dead.

Hope the knee holds up this afternoon NU.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2017 11:43

Sorry to hear that, Mrs W. It is tough when they are the only ones left. My mother lost four of her siblings in a very short space of time and finds it tough being just her and her much younger brother, who is closer in age to me than her.

Have PM'd you re restaurant.

Crepeys, I have a bit of a dilemma. My mother has, unexpectedly, gone into hospital for an operation today. I feel I should take some time off next week to go and see her (not least because it affects her mobility). My dilemma is that my deputy is off next week, so that will essentially leave no-one in the team, and I am quite sure that my boss will say that TYMWCDNW can cover my job (as he doesn't have enough to do himself), which is exactly what I don't want. So am thinking of taking two half days, going down one afternoon, staying overnight and going back to London the next day, as damage limitation. But this might not be quite enough. I guess I can go Tuesday/Wednesday and possibly again at the weekend, seeing how she is.

MrsWobble3 · 04/02/2017 11:50

Thanks MrsS.

Re your mother - sounds a sensible plan. Can you leave foolproof instructions with the team that would prevent him undermining you? If he's not got enough to do can you find a Very Important Project for him - sorting out the filing perhaps since he was unable to find something recently. But whatever the work hassle caused by your absence I think you will beat yourself up more for not seeing your mother, so should go.

Blackduck · 04/02/2017 13:37

MrsS really boring but critical task? Something to keep him busy and out of the important stuff. Do think you need to pull rank on this.

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2017 13:53

MrsS, good advice from MrsW and BD. And 2 shorter trips to your DM is probably the for the best both ways!

Here DD's friends issue seems to be blowing up on the phone, though her voice is getting quieter...

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2017 14:40

BD - we're the same grade. But there is someone else that I can ask to do it, thereby cutting TYM out of the loop.

Blackduck · 04/02/2017 15:45

Do that then MrsS and present as done deal.

Cremolafoam · 04/02/2017 16:11

I think the half day choice is a good one Mrs S. i do feel for you , having to split yourself in two. I wouldn't trust colleague as far as I could spit him.

I am momentarily in London- but back out again in an hour or so. Cold innit!?

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2017 16:46

I am laughing at a comment on my wall from someone who used to work for me: "Don't stop setting a bad example." Grin
