Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Thanks bo . No not at the moment just browsing skincare and came across it! Have GP appointment on 7th February so not trying anything new until I find out what is causing the redness.

botemp · 25/01/2017 22:14

Does your mom speak alien, Aurora Grin.

It's about a third dry an hour and a bit on, the back end still very much wet... so much slower than normal. My hair is in very good condition just not very good at locking in moisture, but not really dry so I do think it has some effect. Good volume too. Also pretty effective for a no-poo, it's looking very clean and not frizzy. Might just blast it with cold air before bed if needs must. It's also very curly. I think I liked the rinse best and I know Christophe Robin recently started selling finishing acids for hair when wet or to refresh when dry between washes, may try that out with the herbal/acid brew in a few days.

Dr Sam's next video will obvs have to include THE bonnet ^ Grin

AuroraPolaris · 25/01/2017 22:21

Just don't drink it by mistake... seeing it's in your fridge Grin

What also affects my hair is obvs weather, and that includes wind and moisture, so I find that if I wear a hat outside (which I do anyway cause it's bloody cold) my hair stays in much better shape.

AuroraPolaris · 25/01/2017 22:22

My mom's was connected to its own little machine and she used it with rollers, also on me sometimes. I wonder if she still had itHmm

AuroraPolaris · 25/01/2017 22:27

Has....

Tsmummy08 · 25/01/2017 22:33

Glad they got there hollin, hope there's enough to try!

I've just acquired the Active Formulas "Anti-aging" moisturiser: lovely feel and scent, and left my face very soft but not sticky. Definitely not a Creme de la Mer type cream with regards to texture, it's lighter than that...

After cleansing tonight I noticed some blocked pores/little red bumps but I'm also premenstrual, and the bumps could be due to that, so I've used some BHA to try and resolve.

One issue: the label says "store in the fridge" which is a right pain as it's 2 storeys down if I forget to bring it up in the morning.... There may be a skincare mini-fridge in my future Grin

hollinhurst84 · 25/01/2017 22:34

Yes definitely, going to wash my hair tomorrow Grin most excited I've been for doing that!!

EnidButton · 25/01/2017 22:39

Guess what I'm going to buy... www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01LY50VPL/ref=mp_s_a_1_8_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1485383824&sr=8-8&keywords=hair+hood+dryer&tag=mumsnetforum-21 Grin

Maybe I should give the BBH another try but I think my hair's too long or something for it. We did not get on well at all.

botemp · 25/01/2017 22:46

THE bonnet... though at that price it is very tempting. I actually have some Carmen curlers (a travel kit and a proper one), I always forget about them but they are the easiest good hair low effort thing around.

I think for long hair you need the very giant brush which you have to buy separately but you'll still end up like a real housewife of Bonnetsville Wink

I assumed it would be more like the lighter non mineral oil cream from La Met (soft?) than the original so that sort of ligns up, Tsmummy08. What a pain about keeping it in the fridge, is the Vit C also supposed to be kept there?

OP posts:
EnidButton · 25/01/2017 23:17

I'm not spending money on a brush for it so I think I'll sell it. The reviews for a similar good were saying it heats up too much and could melt. Shock Not sure I need my conditioner that warm. Grin

EnidButton · 25/01/2017 23:17

Hood

hollinhurst84 · 26/01/2017 01:06

These are the samples I got with my lip balm
Purito pure hyaluronic 90 serum
IOPE super vital cream bio excellent rich
Hanyul optimising serum

Now off to google!

mintmagnummm · 26/01/2017 06:31

Thank you bo I'll behave then Grin

I bought some palmers Shea shampoo and conditioner yesterday, goin to wash hair today so will let u know what it's like if anyone is interested?
Also got a tester pot of Bobbi brown bb cream to try as my skin is not loving my mac waterweight!

Tsmummy08 · 26/01/2017 07:32

Bo yes the vit C is also meant to be kept in the fridge, which led to me googling "mini-fridge" last night! We have an office on the same floor as the bathroom so I'll probably put one in there :) The vit C hasn't oxidised (visibly) in the almost 3 months I've had it though, so it definitely helps.

That makes sense re. La Mer - I've only ever tried the original one. The AF moisturiser is a nice product to use - I'm hoping it's my pesky hormones that are responsible for the spots... we shall see!

AuroraPolaris · 26/01/2017 08:15

Since we've been discussing clay for hair -

www.easyparapharmacie.com/argiletz-shampooing-adoucissant-cheveux-secs-et-fragiles-bio-200ml.html

botemp · 26/01/2017 13:41

Cattier also do a clay shampoo. I actually saw a few in the organic supermarket.

Hmm, well my hair was still damp-ish in places this morning and then sort of morphed into that greasy feeling near the back and the ends. It looks great, hair colour that went in about a month ago is suddenly revived and more obvious, far less curly than I expected and more of its wavy self but I really don't like the feel of it (that typical no-poo feel I suppose) so I'll be going over it with shampoo tonight or tomorrow. I think next time I'll try it on clean hair instead and see what that will yield.

Melting bonnets don't sound good, Enid. The one I read about was the Gold 'n Hot one and like the one Aurora's mum had/has it has a machine attached to it rather than an attachment though there's an attachment version of it too. I guess it pays to spend a bit more on those.

Skinful, I had a look at those Rodial products and nearly fell off my chair upon regarding the INCI. It's all really cheap ingredients before phenoxyethanol (so everything after this will be in a concentration of max 1%) where all the supposedly 'beneficial' extracts are hidden and then as the very last thing bee venom Shock. Total rip off especially considering what they're charging and then to name the entire line after a supposed superstar ingredient which is in there in the lowest concentrations ever.

OP posts:
Skinfulnappies46 · 26/01/2017 14:15

How do they get away with it Bo? Are there not advertising regulations to prevent that sort of thing, or does no one care that Jo Public is getting ripped off?? Capitalism at its very worst 😖

AuroraPolaris · 26/01/2017 14:25

Sadly that is the case with many beauty products (and their PR claims), which are often mainly comprised of cheap filler ingredients. AngryThat's why we aim to educate ourselves to read INCI lists Wink

hollinhurst84 · 26/01/2017 14:28

I've used the Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner. First impressions are I love the smell and it feels nice on my hair. Hair is now wet and tied up so I'll have to wait for results Grin as I don't own a hairdryer or a brush

mintmagnummm · 26/01/2017 14:38

Which one did u use hollin

hollinhurst84 · 26/01/2017 14:41

The actual Shea one

SheStoodInTheStorm · 26/01/2017 16:35

I am still here...haven't been able to check for a couple of days bloody work and now you've chatted through lots of posts so need to sit down and properly catch up!

Pupsiecola · 26/01/2017 17:49

Does anyone follow Caroline Barnes on Instagam? She has some good make up tips etc (she's a mua). She posted about using a hair removal cream on your face! I can't imagine ever doing that but I wondered if anyone else does!

Pupsiecola · 26/01/2017 17:52

hollin do you comb the conditioner through before rinsing? I think that if/when I want to leave my hair wavy I need to leave it alone. I don't really brush it anyway but I do use a wide toothed comb during conditioning, and just before drying. Then a large round brush to dry with hairdryer.
