Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Use en suite for showers everyday. Bathroom rarely used for anything other than washing my face and the odd pampering bath soak. No steam.

Which no fecker can see as it's so blurry on here. Hmm

Google acidic and alkaline foods. It is really useful for when you feel like your body is reacting to everything.

Well said bo! I just don't want ppl to run and spend a lot of money because it's mentioned in this thread, but to do their research and form their own independent decisions.

Wow 15 gr of blush would probably last me 10 years (and then it would start smelling horrible)
In that vein I found it a pity that SH only mentioned expensive palettes in her article today. Again, nothing wrong with that, but where is the balance?

By the way bo the palette you posted yesterday is of eyeshadows and those shades really really suit me.

Botemp

Thank you for taking time to give me such a detailed answer.

Its taken me quite a while to break down the abbreviations.

I have now got a shopping list of new products. Having read the previous three threads I was quite looking forward to trying the BODY SHOP camomile balm and thought I would do this before the LRP Toleriane range. Seeing as I use the LRP Anthelios SPF 50 BB cream is it necessary to cleanse twice. And would the Body Shop be ok to use?

Also thanks Enid for pointing me in the right direction! I've just God the regular, not the fluide.

Shiny new thread!

Does anyone want my Biore Watery Essence. SPF50+?

I got it on Thursday and I've used it three times and although I love how it doesn't feel like sunscreen it's making my face feel tight and dry. Back to the thick, greasy bubblegum-fragranced, Avon baby suncream for now Grin

I'll happily throw it in the post for someone.

I've just had a look at the Shiseido Senko Anti Aging SPF50+ and that also features alcohol quite high in the ingredients list, albeit not as high as the Biore. I'm guessing it's the ethanol that my skin isn't into, in high quantities. Anyone got any good cheapy suggestions for me? I don't really want to spend more than a tenner.

Is eye sunscreen a thing? I can't normally put sunscreen anywhere near my eyes, they hate the stuff, but I would like to protect them. Or shall I just be mega cool and wear shades at all times?

found you!

Thank you so much Bo. I feel less hag-like already!
I will purchase the CosRX overnight rice mask (I also have the laneige water mask which I am unsure about and some tonymoly rice sheet masks which I haven’t tried yet).
The LRP toleriane cleanser I was using is the softening foaming gel one so I am guessing it is the wrong one. Will go and peruse Boots tomorrow to find the dermo cleanser. You are right about the effaclar mat cream – it is actually starting to really sting when I put it on so that is going in the bin. The Kiehls one I was using is the Ultra Light Daily UV defense one?. Luckily Biore watery essence is the only sunscreen we have in the in the house as it is the only one that DS is not allergic to as he has eczema.
Re oil cleansers, I used to use the Skinfood black sugar cleansing oil (has an emulsifier in) or almond oil. I will look at the DHC cleansing oil (did try the Una Brennan one but it broke me out badly). I have an old (unopened) bottle of the black sugar so may go back to that while waiting for the DHC. I will get the TO HA 2% + B5 and will have a look at the hylamide vs buffet. I will also get the Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Clear and the TO advanced retinoid for pm and the LRP toleriane for am and pm.
May have to get some of these sent to work before DH wonders what on earth is going on. I am also now seriously eyeing that Sisley concealer…
The sink it is Grin

Also Aurora - have you tried probiotics for your DS's eczema. We saw a huge improvement in DS when he started on biocare mindlinx probiotic powder adn I started making all our laundry detergent. I was a bad scientist and made the 2 changes at the same time (we were a bit desperate) and now I don't know which one was most important!!

New thread!!! Lovely Smile

Can I distract and ask for more advice on dd(5); she was stung by a wasp back in October, just under her lip and is still red and rasht looking in the area. Have tried sudocream, antiseptic cream, argan oil. I really hope she doesn't scar. The sting didn't seem a big deal at the time. Can't believe there's still a rash 2m later ... any suggestions v welcome...

SH mentions Charlotte Tilbery a lot doesn't she? I haven't heard very good reviews for the brand apart from beauty bloggers. Anyone used anything from the range?

Been given Ren keep young and beautiful (Hmm) instant forming beauty shot but looking at the ingredients, it seems heavy in hyluronic acid. I have someone I can pass it onto but it gets rave reviews so I'm tempted to try it. What do you all think? www.spacenk.com/uk/en_GB/brands/r/ren/instant-firming-beauty-shot-US300024843.html

Sillybilly thanks for the suggestion- when he was first diagnosed with lactose intolerance he did have to take probiotics for a little while plus going gluten free for six weeks. He isn't gluten intolerant but the health practitioner explained that it was in order to help the system "heal". He hasn't suffered from eczema for the last few years.
I've always used organic stuff for laundry (and everything else) but I don't think he's sensitive to that. How do you make yours?

I come bearing bad news Sad. It appears the Toleriane Fluide is being discontinued. As of April it wasn't available in Canada and the reps there said they were no longer selling it. It appears to have disappeared off all the regional LRP sites except the UK one so stock up. The other offerings from the Toleriane line I'm less keen on due to silicones and shea butter, the Toleriane Fluide was perfect in its bare bones. I blame Chanel and the launch of their Solution 10, which I already speculated to be very similar, even did the INCI comparison I think. It's all the L'Oreal group so figures, it launched spring 2016, ahem Angry.

I have two alternative but neither are the perfect ideal, the Bioderma Sesibio Tolerance+ which is similar but has coconut derivatives quite high up in the INCI -the INCI on EPP is not correct, original here-. Luckily it's similar in price to LRP Fluide, the other is SVR Sensifine Fluide (also comes in a heavier cream version for drier skin) which I've used in the past and is lovely but it contains cottonseed oil, so not suited to those who really want an oil free moisturiser. It does have the squalane though (which Bioderma doesn't) and the added benefit of Niacinamide. It's a bit pricier and I assume more difficult to source in the UK.

Unless someone has tried the Bioderma I'll have to test it I think or the Chanel Grin

It's not absolutely necessary purple15, if it's uncomfortable to double cleanse or results in too much tightness a good single first cleanse will suffice. If the Body Shop CB leaves a film then I wouldn't recommend leaving it at a single cleanse.

I knew it was an eyeshadow palette, Aurora, it's on sale at dB but no extra 10% off so I lost interest even though it's very pretty. I noticed that too about SH's piece this morning, I'm also a little sick of the whole it's soooo pigmented babble which appears to be universal from low-end to high-end. It makes me question if there's still shit eye shadows out there, if there ever was even (I've just had some that required a bit more effort than others but that's about it, unless you count children's makeup that's allround shit).

Scooby, I've just received my Shiseido Senko Anti Aging SPF50+ that I'm testing out for the rosaceacs on the thread. I've only tried it out on my hand so far and I'm comparing it to my last Japanese SPF which is a more expensive one. It's a bit thick initially straight out the tube but as soon as you start spreading it out it disappears into nothing and is absolutely weightless, it leaves behind a very soft smooth feeling skin that I think will make a good makeup base but doesn't feel siliconey. Faintly smells of alcohol (as expected) but doesn't linger and doesn't feel drying. I'll be trying it on the face over the next few days. I'll test it out around the eye area, I'm very sensitive to SPF there too. I can't remember if I promised decants of this or just people awaiting my feedback before purchasing, if it's the former PM me about it. I do have shades with me at all time, but my previous SPF I could handle near the eye without issue too. I think if you have serious issues with all SPF near the eyes than an eye cream with an SPF while not ideal is then the best solution.

Silly, Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV defense is a sunscreen, a really nice one actually though pricey for an SPF but not officially a moisturiser, but if it works for you as a moisturiser continue using that.

From Charlotte Tilbury I've had the retoucher concealer which I liked but not at the end. I bought a few beach sticks too, one I completely finished which is quite impressive considering it was a blush colour, the other is a bronzer. I personally think the bronzer looks a bit stupid on me but everyone else thinks I've just come back from vacation so it's a bit odd. Most of her stuff is, it has a different sort of shimmer pigment that plays with the light well but to me it appears quite obvious. Also had the feline flick pen which was pants, and the full fat lashes mascara that was so-so, the applicator is nicer than the formula. I ordered the mini trio lipstick close to Christmas but cancelled it as I got so annoyed in between ordering and it dispatching about news that the company had paid several youtubers (granted the source was another youtube thing that came on since I left autoplay on) that all mentioned some CT products in their monthly favourite at a specific time/for a specific length of time, all undisclosed. CT is a very social heavy brand, I'm sure there are a few nice products in there as professional makeup artists do use it and there's less incentive for them to do so but I've just decided to boycott them completely on the back of their M.O.

Wiltin I only remember (from when I was a student and my room had a nest in the ceiling) that you had to soak wherever it stung with vinegar. My mum's solution to everything was Arnica, which in some cases did help. I don't know what to do about it 2 months later, has she seen a GP?

That was weird though in the SH article, the specific mention of how Chanel shadows used to be a bit so-so in the past but were much improved now. It's probably innocent but it jumped out at me as it's a generally acknowledged thing that most people don't like the subtle payoff from Chanel shadows, but then again that warrants the added disclaimer.

I figured by January 6th but I guess we can pretend it's Christmas until Easter

Thanks Aurora, here you are. It's kinda white in the middle and then ringed with red.

Haven't brought her to the gp, just thought it would clear up.

Maybe antihistamine cream might work? Will pop into a chemist with her tomorrow I think and see what they think.

In meantime I came across this v interesting article on sun protection from various commercial sunscreens evoke.ie/life-style/what-suncream-is-best-coverage-tested-uv-light

V worrying to see how little protection some of them provide.

Haven't read full thread, still catching up on old one you lot sure talk a LOT Grin

Nooooo! Those rat bastards! No way am I paying £58 for the Chanel, knowing that it's a more expensive dupe for the LRP fluide. Luckily I have 2 bottles unopened & 1 in the bathroom so I've got time to test alternatives. What will I spend my Boots points on now!?
