Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

You sound rather dehydrated Elixiam, the N+F pads sound more like a culprit than the Vit C would. Also when introducing products two weeks apart it means not introducing another new product until the previous one has been worked up to normal frequency. So with an acid you wouldn't introduce another new product until that's slotted in at the normal frequency of 2-3x a week (or more if necessary).

There's an Asian version of the NIOD copper, it's mostly an HA ampoule, I think from Mizon. Will have to look it up again. Anyhow, for sun damage Vit A and C are the more interesting ingredients. I believe Copper is very unfounded currently, you're really buying into the possibility rather than the assurance.

Dulci, I find the TO Retinoid a bit on the heavy side so that may be the cause. I only discovered it since my Steam Cream is running out so I only use it in the AM now since I usually do an oil at night, now I use a light Japanese emulsion and an oil and that's a perfect partnership with the Retinoid.

So glad you like the Yvonne, she's such a lovely person too. I'm not very big on using Instagram but she has a beautifully curated one. I'm currently heavily contemplating some sneakers on her site, just can't choose between two colours.

mint/jo can't remember exactly but it has something to do with the cuticles opening and closing, therefore finishing with cold water was always recommended but that seems to be more suitable to high porous only now if I understand it correctly.

Loving my vinegar/herbal tincture spray btw, great refresher between washes, and a few spritzes on wet hair is also fab. Was worried it would affect my colour but Google has assured me it will actually prolong and preserve colour.

You're welcome Aurora it makes a change for me to be giving advice on this thread!

Enid how did you use the colorphlex? Mine came on Friday and instructions are to use whilst coloring hair but am I right in thinking you just added it to your conditioner?

Does anyone know wat makes hair go static? The last couple of times I've washed it it has been really static when I start to dry and straighten?!

That was so long. 🙄Blush Sorry. I was thinking aloud.

Smile I don't want to use it all over yet. I have the congested areas either side of chin/lower jaw, shall I try it there first do you think? I can't remember what it's supposed to do as haven't looked at their site for a long time. I'll have a look now. Noticed last night that there are two small patches either side of nose, lower cheeks, that are a bit 'saggy' (?) or maybe it's just visible pores. Not sure. But would it do much to help the texture there do you think?

Jury is out on the aveda black malva. Roots and fringe definitely more ashy but ends, where I put most of it, look a bit redder. 🤔 Parts that have gone ashy are where I don't have any semi colour left. It looks good though, all blends nicely, so will try it again and put more on ends.

Colorphlex- hair is incredibly soft and smooth and silky. Pretty impressed. Only problem is my roots are now really silky too and as I have heavy thick hair, it's feeling too floppy and I can't poof my roots up with my fingers like I usually do. Could be because I used the aveda conditioner on my roots. Normally I only put conditioner on the lengths.

Anyway, will try aveda again before deciding if it's a hit and going to order the full size colorphlex but only use on ends and mid lengths next time.

Thanks Fizzy! It's a great tip and I had actually wondered how one can keep track of where exactly you've already done.

Picked the tip up from good old Amazon. A white eyeliner is often the suggested additional purchase to go with a Lumea on there! I start by drawing a couple of tramlines the width of the lens from ankle to knee, then zap between the lines making sure I overlap the edges a little. Then draw another line and repeat until I've gone all the way round my leg! It's the best way of ensuring you don't miss a patch. Because the machine works best on those with pale skin and dark hair, you should use a white pencil as opposed to dark, as black or brown would mimic an unshaven hair which can supposedly damage the machine. And the zap would be absorbed as if it were a hair follicle which would probably hurt. Not sure I've described that very well Confused

Pupsie I got the p50w decant today. Thank you very much. Flowers It was there last week when they said they weren't sure if there were 1 or 2 packages for me but could only find one. Luckily I had something to pick up today and they spotted it. Got it now anyway. Thank you.

I have some black malva conditioner to try. Hair is medium brown and I want it cooler/more ashy, but slightly concerned that some of the reviewers who love it have slightly green hair...Confused Suppose it'll wash out.

Also have the colorphlex. Trying g to decide whether to use it with the aveda or try them separately.

Hmmm interesting... you mean along your legs, as in parallel lines? I have a few nude eyeliners but I have no white at the moment.
Why white, by the way? Couldn't I use the crappy old black or brown ones that don't last more than half an hour on me? Grin

Aurora if you haven't already got one, get a white eyeliner for drawing lines on your legs, that way you know where you've been

Bo That is really interesting that your TO retinoid clogging was actually down to TO retinoid + benton steam cream (have I got that right?). I thought the retinoid was mildly clogging, then I thought the steam cream was doing it. Perhaps as you say it's the two together? How odd, I wonder why? Makes sense though because thinking about it, I don't have a problem with them used separately...

Btw, the Yvonne arrived and is really nice, perfect size, lovely leather, just fab. Tyvm for the tip. Not sure I need another for a while now, so the Myr is on hold but not forgotten!

I tried the NIOD copper when it just came out. Must say I didn't notice any difference at all, but I have no visible sun damage or pigmentation. It could be that it has (very) long term benefits but I think the price is too high for such a gamble, plus it's not something that can come instead of a hydrating serum, which again affects the value/ price consideration as part of an overall routine.

Have a nice Saturday quiz for the nerds in training Grinwhich I will post on the new thread.

So what are we calling it???
