Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Enid - I think it's still in stock at Boots, online at least, although it's sadly not on offer at the moment.

Rats - I was sold the kiehls as a moisturiser as well (eyes the man at the kings cross shop dubiously)! Am also not keen on £58 from chanel. I will carry on with the kiehls for now while I go and check out face theory... In an ideal world should I use the the toleriane dermo cleanser, TO HA, then sunscreen, then moisturiser in the morning? Should I tone in the morning as well (Paula's choice ordered!)

Aurora - glad he is better. For laundry I use the recipe from asonomagarden which is basically soap (I use goats milk soap), borax, washing soda and water.

Wilting Pharmacist said it's an unusual shape. Has she been itching it and is it sore? Has it increased in size since the sting?
Is she prone to eczema or other skin problems apart from dry skin.

At the moment with what you've said the advice is to get a prescription for hydrocortisone cream as you've tried the other milder things. (You tried E45 didn't you?) Or it could be infected which would need an antibiotic. 2 months is a long time for that kind of thing so gp might be a good place to try next. I hope that helps. Smile

Didn't someone mention it was 1/3 off LRP on escentual? It's still on the LRP UK website so I'm thinking there's still a good amount of stock available.

Silly, I'm not a proponent of depending on your mosituriser for sun protection but there's no issue with relying on your sun screen to double up as a moisturiser, provided it covers your needs in that area it's perfectly fine. I often do it in the summer as I'm not in need of that much moisturisation then.

Acid toning, primarily at night, 2-3x a week initially, more if you need it but I doubt you'll be doing it more than every other day and not 2x a day.

SPF is always the last step of your skincare routine, so after moisturiser. Leave to sink in, then move on to makeup if wearing. So your AM would be:

Cleanse with LRP Dermo
HA
Moisturiser
SPF

No problem, Enid. Hope you manage to get enough to last until you can find a suitable alternative.

That article WiltingFast has linked to is interesting, and worrying. I'll certainly be an awful lot more careful how I apply my facial sunscreen from now on, & on DD's face too. Think I'll also keep my nails shorter - between the parts of the face that are easy to miss with SPF, & that Japanese facial massage, I suspect I might need to if I'm not going to claw myself to ribbons. Wilting I showed the pic to my pediatrician sister - she says that it's hard to judge w/o seeing the whole face, coloring and type of skin. She says that as she sees red cheeks etc she asumes the skin is slightly sensitive w tendency to redness and these types of skins take longer to heal in general.
Also b/c of the white dot she thinks the anti allergens are still active and maybe flare up if she scratches? She said it's good to give/ smear antihistamine but only if she is scratching and can't control it.
She doesn't think there is a chance of scaring though... but of course it's all with a disclaimer as she can't check her in person Wink

Doesn't seem to bother her but it looks sore. Haven't noticed her itching. I think it has spread out a little. Not certain. She is prone to kp and her skin is a bit reactive and dries out easily on her body. It sometimes looks worse than others. Looks bad at mo.

Sounds like I should really get it checked st this point by a gp. Thanks for the advice everyone.

But what's all this about LRP???? Shock I just bought it at 1/3 off at lookfantastic. It arrived incredibly quickly, like next day. And I'm in ireland!

I better buy a few back ups.

I'd say your sister is right about her skin Aurora, though she's not usually red cheeked. Looks a bit to me like her whole face is irritated today. She was swimming today for the first time in s few weeks, might be an irritant.

She takes after her mum in the skin dept, I'm sure you've all heard me complain about my sensitive cheeks Smile.

Thank you!

Wilting Pharmacist here said the same about the redness. It looks like she has reactive and sensitive skin generally. Good sign that it's not itchy. Hard to say with seeing it in person but they don't recommend antihistamine creams generally as they can cause more problems than good sometimes. (Can cause allergic reactions/flare ups.) Have someone take a look in real life either your pharmacist or gp. Smile

Thank you for your advice botemp Sorry if you think I hadn't bothered to read previous posts, I have tried but it's very hard with three kids and a baby, never get more than 5 mins and it's hard when you don't know the majority of the brands, products or abbreviations. I will work my way through looking up all the suggestions. Sorry again if it's been covered but is Micellar water no good then? I find it good on my skin and wear hardly any make up.

So not only have I brought the wrong LRP (why can't they just give them different names Envy) once I get the right one I'm no longer going to be able to buy it?! Grr!!

Old me would be looking on Escentual seeing what else I can buy with 1/3 off, new me is thinking about what my skin needs and what you guys have recommended! So I probably don't need anything as I bought TO stuff

Are we talking about LRP Toleriane dermo-cleanser being discontinued...? Or the toleriane fluide...? Was just contemplating the cleanser as a possibility for replacing the Uriage roseliane I have when it's gone...
incidentally would the toleriane cleanser be any good for my very sensitive skinned DD1 who is in the throes of pretty bad spots and over production of sebum/spotty hairline...? She has sensory processing issues so can only tolerate certain textures...have tried her with a watery type bioderma sebium but hates it...just want to start trying to encourage her to keep the area cleaner as a start...she found my milky cleanser warmed a little in my hands, the least awful sensation earlier.....don't think anything gel-wash style will be good for either her sensitive skin or her SPD so ruling that out for now...

I find looking at the French brands hard work sometimes Shestood. They're all white with blue writing, really long product names that all sound really similar and, you know, mainly in French. Grin Easy to get the wrong product. I screen shot things to take into the store with me.
