Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

old reader, new poster haven't fathomed how to change name yet. I am vegetarian nearly vegan not quite there yet. At 45 I think fffs stop gorging on chocolate it's like a true addiction sugar I crave it and am sated by it. I've done juice detoxes and stayed off sugar for a bit so I'm hoping this supplement will help. also got TO nicotinamide arrived today very sticky to use. Will report back kx

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 13/01/2017 15:47

evening all! all my lovely purchases are starting to arrive! Well the TO ones have anyway. I have been double cleansing with the LRP foaming cleanser and some skinfood oil, and although blemishes seem to be disappearing slightly my skin feels very dry, tight, and grey and someone could live in my eye bags so I am looking forwards to my facetheory moisturiser arriving. I have stopped the nip and fab pads everyday (Paula's choice stuck at the DHL depo...) so have bought some LRP toner to use on the none BHA days - is that sensible? Boots also had one lonely tube of LRP toleriane fluid left so I bought it :-)

The only thing I have added in so far is the TO Buffet (in the pm only) and no adverse reactions so far. However the charlotte tilbury magic eye cream is really starting to irritate my eye lids so I think it may have to go (any takers??). The plan for a routine is therefore as follows:

am
cleanse with LRP toleriane dermo cleanser at the sink
TO Buffet
TO hyaluronic or Vit C (will start with hyaluoronic)
face theory moisturiser
sunscreen (either kiehls or watery essence)

should I tone after cleansing in the morning?? if so, LRP toner....

pm
cleanse with DHC deep cleansing oil (need to finish my skin food one first)
cleanse with LRP dermocleanse
tone with either LRP toner or Paula's choice BHA
TO Buffet
TO Redermic
maybe Mizon snail ampoule
face theory moisturiser

Does that sound OK? I promise I will wait 2 weeks before adding stuff in :-) Also, what do you think about adding a drop of face oil into moisturiser (i have clarins blue lotus which I like). Should I do it separately or is mixing OK?

thank you

botemp · 13/01/2017 15:59

Which toner did you get from LRP, Silly? Beyond and exfoliating acid toner or a hydrating toner in today's modern world of skincare toners are sort of dinosaurs from a different era as good cleansers with the right pH shouldn't need a cleanup crew up crew to come tidy up after them.

Mixing in oil with moisturiser is fine if you feel the need for a bit of oomph, it's all a matter of personal preference and experimenting really.

Also, I've said this before but don't use eye cream on your eyelids or too close to the eye. Most eye creams will actually say it somewhere, there are a rare few that market as 360 degree eye creams but basically it means you can use it up and around the orbital bone. See attached pic.

Also, Silly, the LRP Dermo Cleanser is not a foaming cleanser. Do you have the one that looks like this

Whilst I love that SPF it really stung my eyes when I had a shower. I try to avoid tipping my head back in the shower (for all the reasons we discuss here) but some water trickled down my face and the SPF must have got in my eyes. Not a good enough reason to stop using it, but will be more careful in future.

Does anyone want this carbonated bubble clay mask? I thought a nice cleansing mud mask but a bit different as "carbonated". I got it last week looked cute, read ingredients - heave to me being veggie but i'm sure ok for lots of people. Msg me if you would like me to post it. Ive unscrewed the lid but not used or poked finger in. Kx

Skin firming and old stretch mark eradication.

Thank you for reading. Smile

botemp · 13/01/2017 19:10

73kittycat73, the diabetes definitely matters as it will in part affect how effective something is. If it's accompanied by insuline resistance skin firming and stretch marks will take longer to address. I've only been looking into this recently myself but the most promising thing I've come across is the eneomey advanced c body lotion (sometimes still available under the old brand name Mene & Moy). I think it's between £30-40. They do suggest starting with the lower strength one with 15% glycolic which is also slightly cheaper I think. I did do a little experiment with TO retinoid 2% (under £10 for 30ml) but I think the glycolic is probably a better first plan of attack.

Thank you so much botemp. Smile Do you know of any stockists? Is Boots likely to have it in?

botemp · 13/01/2017 19:39

I don't think Boots will have it. The only two retailers I know that sell it where I've bought from before are Skincity and Easyparapharmacie but they come in a bit pricier, the cheapest I've found it is here for £36 (with free shipping) but I've no clue what they're like as a webshop. The lower strength 15% starter version is this one.

Interesting article via Fifty Shades of Snail re beauty industry PR practices -
http://www.racked.com/2016/11/14/13455582/glossier-referral-marketing-bloggers

And her article on why use sheet mask after serum-
https://fiftyshadesofsnail.com/2016/12/05/reader-questions-why-i-use-sheet-masks-after-serums/

bo I think I already told you that I've always applied eye cream on the immobile part of my eyelids (as indeed shown in the pic). I've done this with every eye cream I've ever used (and that's more than 20 years of eye creams Grin), but must also add that my eyes are not sensitive at all. I even apply the Clarins oil there. Also - I always use the cream to do a light and quick massage to the eye area (not unlike what is showen in the Tanaka video).

AuroraPolaris · 13/01/2017 20:41

Who was it that asked a few days ago about enhancing makeup? Sorry, can't remember who it was.
Can you be a bit more specific so we can try and answer?

Fucklez · 13/01/2017 20:44

Great, thanks bo. Yes the main concern is still the barrier issue but using my PC is a nice and easy option to try!

Do you have any recommendations for an eye cream? The itchy dryness is driving me insane Sad

botemp · 13/01/2017 20:46

Well basically the theory goes that with all the movement you're just shifting it about and it can end in puffy eyes and/or irritation. Don't know if it actually causes harm or anything but it's a pretty pointless exercise to moisturise the lids, they should really rename them orbital creams Wink.

Speaking of eye cream, the manyo factory one is on offer at a really good price at sweetcorea. Was considering buying some masks there, they do charge a bit of shipping so I keep going back and forth between ordering a lot of things to make sense of the shipping costs or be sensible and realise I'm not going to use that many sheetmasks. I need more takers for a group haul ahem Grin.

OP posts:
botemp · 13/01/2017 20:49

I missed the itchy dryness question, Fucklez. Where exactly is the dryness? Is it been going on for a while or is temporary? Actually, Kiehl's creamy avocado eye cream is really nice and rich without being heavy or clogging (does contain parabens in case that's of concern to you). Maybe you can try exchanging the peel for that and they'll definitely be able to give you a sample of that too aren't I full of helpful cost saving tips today?.

OP posts:
Sillybillypoopoomummy · 13/01/2017 21:10

Thank you Bo, I had the wrong one - but I bought the dermocleanser today so shall switch to that as of tonight.

The LRP toner is a 'soothing lotion for sensitive skin' that promises to soothe, tone and protect at physiological pH' from a blue bottle. However it is good to know I shouldn't need it after the dermocleanser.

AuroraPolaris · 13/01/2017 21:14

I've never got puffy eyes or anything, but again that's just me.

My eye cream is almost finished. Do you think it's better than the Verso? Will check it out and we can order together if it looks nice Grin

botemp · 13/01/2017 21:22

I haven't really looked into the manyo one yet, I recognise what EGF is but all the others are new to me. I think it's probably just a nice inoffensive eye cream, I'm not expecting anything amazing from it but who knows. They have a few other mango products in sample form too but haven't looked into those yet either, oh the irony, this thread keeps my skincare nerdery so busy I never get to my own skincare research needs Wink

OP posts:
botemp · 13/01/2017 21:23

*manyo not mango, though knowing AB I'm sure it won't be long before mango is the new miracle ingredient.

Fucklez · 13/01/2017 21:39

Ooooooooooo what a smashing idea!! That leaves the money leftover I would have spent on a new eye cream to spend on doing up your room for when you come live with me - this is not negotiable Grin

The itchy dryness is completely new and in the corner of, and just under, one eye. Both eyes began itching on n off a few weeks ago but lately one has gone full blown twattish.

Kennington · 13/01/2017 21:40

Seriously botemp? Write a blog: you could make money from this and it would be easier to read. And it would be nice.

Skinfulnappies46 · 13/01/2017 21:54

Just marking my place ... new email address so new name...previously little pinkfizz
Currently experiencing itchy itchy hands. No idea what's causing it...had started taking gingko bilbao ,calcium and magnesium plus some chestnut bark formulation which I began a couple of weeks ago for mild Reynauds. My feeling is that one of these is the culprit

FizzyBubbly · 13/01/2017 22:02

Checking in after a couple of days absence, I'm starting to fall behind yet again.

Interesting chat about acne marks earlier, if you end up trying the Cicaplast and it works Enid please let us know! Mine don't seem to be fading at all (they're about 6 months old now) was hoping the TO vitamin C and the Nia in Cerave PM would help but so far nothing noticeable. Is the B5 as mentioned upthread the vitamin? I had a look at the Melano CC serum that you suggested to Funny Bo, and that's got me wondering whether to try that once my TO stuff runs out

I'm now in the market for a new daytime moisturiser and my first thought was Toleraine Fluid but I'm guessing there's no point in even trying it if they're going to discontinue it. Will have a look at the alternatives that Bo suggested, and Pupsie if you're about, what are you currently using? (Forgive me if I'm wrong but iirc we have similar skin, early rosacea, acne prone?)

Had to search right back to that pasta and potato recipe (which looks amazing!) as its been nagging me for days that I didn't save it. Bo and Aurora have you both made it or am I making that up? I'm a very strict veggie so I wouldn't put the Parmesan rind in, would that make much of a difference?

Think my kitchen and my mind are almost ready to make the transition to sugar free which I'm kind of excited about. Although half of me wants to delay it as DH surprised me with a trip to Dublin next month for our anniversary and the book I'm reading says to expect to hit rock bottom withdrawal at around 4 weeks (which is when the trip is). I'm not going to be a quivering grouchy mess am I?
