Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

I'll get some of those JD Been finding it useful for my muscle pain but blimey it taste weird. I just put a spoon full of turmeric in with a ginger, lemon and pear smoothie and that wasn't so bad.

EnidButton · 12/01/2017 22:49

Lego My memory is rubbish too don't worry. Mines brain fog. Hence the multiple posts. By the time I scroll down to the bottom to reply I've forgotten what I was replying to. Blush

Bo I'm very sorry about your friend. I do hope she's ok. Flowers I think it is the 'not wanting to bother anyone thing' isn't it? Such a shame they feel like it'd be a bother to people who love them but it does seem to be common.

EnidButton · 12/01/2017 22:51

Fuckle Thank you. It's the new one that I use and like so that's ok.

I think I need to start taking notes from this thread. Anyone else doing that?

botemp · 12/01/2017 22:59

It is that, Enid, but having gone through it with my mother I can understand people not wanting to subject others to that so I do get it, but at the same time you're robbing someone of a chance to say goodbye. Though I honestly still can't say what I would have preferred as it's a horrible thing to see someone go through that.

I know a lot of people who work in healthcare and have seen it all often refuse treatment and rarely tell anyone either. It really is about sparing others and rather selfless but I can't honestly say whether it's better or not.

Completely unrelated, this recipe for sweet potato 'nachos' looks nice. I know he's supposed to be a thing in Ireland (I think) but anyone ever cooked anything from Donal Skehan, any good?

SheStoodInTheStorm · 12/01/2017 23:08

WineCakeFlowers for those who need them for various reasons! I was seriously ill and I kept it very private. I think when you're receiving medical treatment you hand yourself over so wanting to keep something private and retain a bit of 'self' is understandable.

This thread is on active!

I've been liking the PC stuff I have, skin feel a lot nicer. Stupidly forgot to take photos though.
What is the next product I should introduce? I have TO niacinmide or the HA+B5?

Enid it was me who had been using ciciaplast. Stopped after you pointed out the shea!

SheStoodInTheStorm · 12/01/2017 23:11

Also interested in hearing how the nail polish goes! I love gel nails but they wreck my nails but nail polish just doesn't last at all.

botemp · 12/01/2017 23:17

Blemishes or pores more of concern at the moment, Storm? Nia for pores, and B5 for blemishes.

I'm never saying my skin is clear of spots in here ever again. Just looked/felt my cheek and theee lumps have appeared. I give up. They're always in the same place. Eventually the skin will stop healing. Am due in period next week so suppose it must be that. Can't help thinking it won't ever look good again without make up. But that could be the pms talking. Grin

bo Shestood Yes I can understand that. It's hard. Flowers

Fucklez · 13/01/2017 00:06

Bo I still have the PC stuff but haven't used it since starting my new routine as I'm just so pleased with the no spot thing I'm scared to use anything I used prior to the Great Bo Intervention of 2016 Grin

I didn't purchase the serum but will do that and I can definitely get PC BHA. I think my skin is a fan of not having a load of different products going on it which was clearly where I was going wrong. LRP makes it happy for sure but it does still feel like a layer or 3 needs to come off Grin

Another change I made was to dump my ELDW Shock which has been my go to foundation for years. I now use Armani luminous silk which is very light and feels much better on my face, it comes off much easier too.

My eye sensitivity is particularly shitty at the moment too, I was wondering about investing in the LRP eye cream?

I feel I must check with you before any new skincare purchase Grin it sure is saving me a lot of money!

freelancegirl · 13/01/2017 00:13

Not veggie, just no meat and sadly not very principled about it. For example I eat cheese and many products with renet in and I frequently find myself, for example, licking a sausage to gauge its temperature for two meat loving small people. File under things I never would have thought I would be doing. It's just the idea of snail slime 🐌Do I really not want to know where HA comes from...? I was hoping it was all plant based or good old strong man made chemicals Grin

Pupsiecola · 13/01/2017 08:29

I just had to Google where HA comes from didn't I. There must be a market for organic lol. I often think that about leather. We eat meat, but I'll buy organic whenever possible. Because of the quality of life issue.

JDSTER · 13/01/2017 08:31

Enid do you want the turmeric tablets? Will send them on if you PM your address. I'd rather give them away than put them in the bin. They gave me stomach cramps!

Pupsiecola · 13/01/2017 10:43

Aha. The penny has dropped. I now get what they mean when they say how important it is to find an SPF you like using. I have found mine. The Shiseido is fab - very light, no white cast, 30 seconds after applying you wouldn't even know you had it on. Brilliant! So it'll be that or the Neostrata (being a tinted one, and the same sort of deal). Will use up the other ones for running and on the kids and on body parts.

I just need a much bigger bottle of both, but I don't think they do bigger.

botemp · 13/01/2017 11:35

Ha Pupsie, you're a true Japanese SPF convert now Grin. Mind you I wasn't all that excited about the Shiseido beyond being a very good functional SPF and actually finding it a bit on the heavier side but I'm comparing it to my usual Japanese SPF that is very fluid. Just do keep in mind it's not resistant to water, sweat, and sebum. Japanese SPF rarely come in larger packaging, I'm not sure exactly why. Also, you should have just asked me where HA comes from, I could have given a much more fun answer to throw you off, like that it involves cocks Grin. Just going to point out freelancegirl started with the licking sausage talk, I'm totally innocent

Fucklez, you're making my head grow too large and are the walls lined with Surratt eyeshadows already?. Ok, so what are the main concerns at the moment? If it's still the difficult hormonal barrier I think it's worth trying the Paula's Choice AHA again a few times a week, 2-3x and see if that helps or not. You can introduce the HA serum too but no more than that for the moment I would say.

freelance - I've already linked this in the past, but just in case it makes you feel better Wink

Pupsiecola · 13/01/2017 11:57

Are any of the Japanese ones water/sweat/sebum proof Bo?

botemp · 13/01/2017 12:22

Yeah, there's plenty. You just have to wade through Ratzilla's site and INCI read to get one that'll suit you. The ones with PERFECT in the title are properly waterproof holiday ones but I'd go with French pharmacy for that as they have better PPD ratings. The one I normally use is sweat/water/sebum resistant (but not waterproof) but it's about 2.5x the price and contains fragrance (very minimal and not irritating to me). I'll go back to that once the Shiseido one is finished. I don't hate it and it makes for a great intro into Japanese SPF for those who the Biore is not the best fit and is affordable. If I'd never tried my other one I probably would have been a lot more excited about it.

JDSTER · 13/01/2017 12:40

Hey Bo my PC you sent has arrived. Thank you. I must have willed it on its way last night by mentioning itGrin

Pupsiecola · 13/01/2017 12:46

I might try the Biore Watery Essence (is that the one) in the Spring. They are so affordable! Will stick to French Pharma in Summer/for hols.

botemp · 13/01/2017 12:52

Biore isn't water/sweat/sebum resistant either.

Good to hear JDSTER!

OP posts:
EnidButton · 13/01/2017 14:35

JD Ok then! Smile If you're sure and are only going to throw them out? They might give me cramps too mind but I'll try them. Thank you. Flowers

Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It
AuroraPolaris · 13/01/2017 15:27

No haven't seen or tried this. What are you supposed to do?

Watch the film I linked to on the other thread "THAT SUGAR FILM" (it's on YouTube). It really helps!

AuroraPolaris · 13/01/2017 15:31

Pupsie this one I used this past summer is super water resistant-

www.ratzillacosme.com/sun/anessa-perfect-facial-uv-sunscreen/

It's not discontinued, by the way, you can still order on eBay from Japan. Like bo said, the Japanese do "reformulate" their SPF every year, but the changes, if there are any, are minor (or maybe just to the packaging).

botemp · 13/01/2017 15:35

user new one or the old one? I read about it in the VH newsletter. I think as long as you don't depend on it as the miracle worker that will stop you eating sugar while stowing away the usual amounts and see it as a little support it seems promising. I'm curious to hear of your experiences with it, do please report back on it.
