Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

yeah bo I also try to ignore the news especially those after a certain hour. I was telling DH he might cause me severe nightmares...Shock

Are you still pleased with the steam cream? My moisturiser is almost finished so am thinking about trying it, though am a bit afraid of the argan oil. What % do you think it contains?

Also - watched the Gothamista video you linked (had forgotten about her, so thanks!), and now I want loooots of Manyo Factory stuff -

This nia (though it's not exactly for me - just curious Wink)
manyo-factory.com/en/shop/product/galactomyces-niacin-ekstra-essentsiia-soderzhashchaia-do-97-galactomyces

The Bifidalacto - manyo-factory.com/en/shop/product/bifidalacto-complex-bifido-lakto-kompleks-soderzhanie-fermentov-bifido-i-laktobakterii-90

And a very interesting eye cream - manyo-factory.com/en/shop/product/4gf-eye-cream-krem-dlia-glaz-4gf-soderzhanie-4gf-bolee-20

shop - very curious to know in which ways exactly has the Azelaic transformed your skin.

Xmas Wink - look what happens when you write the code! Xmas emohis still there, one just has to be "creative" Xmas Grin
What is the code for that cute one you put in yesterday?

botemp · 12/01/2017 11:25

I want lots of Manyo Factory stuff too, especially some sheetmasks. Didn't realise it was an organic brand either, though the Asian organic brands aren't quite the same as they are here. It's hard to source though Xmas Angry

Should pay more attention and see you already found the website with the reasonable shipping over a certain amount but high under it. Group haul idea still stands!

Also, on the Benton steam cream, I can't think it's a lot of oil, it's a pricey ingredient so unlikely to be one of the main carrier oils, I really think it's just there for INCI credit. I do still like it but really only for this time of year, think in the spring/summer time it will only be good as a night cream for me. I'm getting to the end of the tube which is frustrating as I think there's quite a bit left and it's getting harder to come out in the right amount, might need to take scissors to it soon and depot it.

AuroraPolaris · 12/01/2017 12:38

Well maybe we'll get a [ bunny ] one soon GrinBearsoon

OK, will forget about the steam cream... which means I'll have to waste more time and procrastinate do some further scientific research into creams Wink

That scissor stage in your product's life is so satisfy though! Love to cut through those tubes!!

Yeah we could do a group haul!

Emailed Deciem today about the Vit c texture. Curious to see what they say/ do as I really love the product.

Botemp Hollinhurst
Thank you for the recommendation on the NYX - Make up concealor wand

Just purchased and applied it. My under eye bags have been transformed.

My foundation at the moment is Bare Minerals Original Foundation. And all the things that go with it, Mineral Veil, Bronser Blusher etc. I have been using this thinking it is very gentle on my skin. But the whole process is tedious. For special occasions I use Estee Lauder Double Wear.

I have followed all four threads and the Make Up for Ever as been mentioned. Just wondering if anyone as any advice that will now transform my makeup.

FunnyBunny01 · 12/01/2017 12:43

I've had a good sort out of everything over the last week and have already given some things to friends and family that I know I won't get around to using any time soon. I've also got a group of things I will look at selling, either on my Depop or eBay. I still could move more items on but I know I'm going to finish up quite a few items this month so I want to see what I have left over then. I've also made a conscious effort to stay off Instagram/ social media as that was a definite trigger to my spending Smile I do feel like my skin is improving, although I'm probably using more than necessary I'm keeping to the same routine morning and evening without changing products and this is having a good effect.

Some excellent advice about eating well and sugar intake, I will definitely start to incorporate less sugar into my diet and focus on having a good diet (although definitely hard to not have cake as my partner loves baking. Just this weekend he made flapjacks, blueberry muffins and some mince pies! Blush )

UntamedShrew · 12/01/2017 16:17

Thanks Bo for info on P50 and ARGH at 'mature'!! Is 40 mature these days? How funny. Although to be fair my skin was looking horrendous and dry that day, not helped by broken sleep, sweaty yoga, walking miles in the rain during tube strike and then spending all day in a totally over-heated office... So I was looking fairly parched (and probably ancient Grin) when I made it to the counter.

The consultant said it was his preferred P50 as it contains more vitamins and nourishment. No mention of the M-word! I'm tempted to give it a go, I'll start off very slowly but not until my poor old face has recovered.

Thanks for your advice on the pestle and mortar retinol oil, too. So I should skip the Vit-C those nights then and just go straight in with the oil? And if I'm at home all evening do you think any benefit to doing that early evening then coming back to my skin a couple of hours later with my serum and moisturiser, or will they not penetrate even after that amount of time?

Aurora for what it's worth I am really enjoying the steam cream.

Pupsiecola · 12/01/2017 17:22

I feel like a breath of fresh air having had a good restyle on the barnet. Had got far too long and curtain-like. I have so much of it and it's of the tricky-wavy variety. Anyway, it's back to just about touching my shoulders, framed round my face, chopped into and feeling full of bounce and far more manageable. Honestly it had got to the point where I just couldn't find the time or the enthusiasm to do anything with it.

My Shiseido SPF arrived btw. Will be trying that tomorrow if I can get outside.

EnidButton · 12/01/2017 17:54

Someone Way up thread said about using Cicaplast for acne and I told them not to because of the Shea butter...well 2 nights ago I used the tiniest bit on a scabby (sorry! No other word) dried up bit where a spot had been and it's completely gone. Shock Usually it'd take a week and then I'd have a dark pink mark there for months. Witchcraft! Really hesitating to use it on the marks I do have though. My skin has really calmed down and I don't have any spots. Just marks. Definitely sugar and wheat that trigger it.

Cosrx users, where do you purchase it from please? (Particularly if you're in the U.K) I bought it from Amazon and it's taking a lifetime to get here. I ordered stuff from Australia (not skincare) two days ago and it's due for delivery tomorrow. Is it produced on Mars?

EnidButton · 12/01/2017 17:56

Pupsie Your hair sounds really nice! I'm wondering about having a couple of inches off too. Not hugely happy with current stylist though so need to find a new one. Sure she's cut my fringe too wide. Always baffles me how so many hair dressers get the fringe wrong. Still, better than I could do it. Grin

FunnyBunny01 · 12/01/2017 18:14

Enid I buy Cosrx from Jolse.com. They are also on EBay but I can't recall their store name at the moment!

AuroraPolaris · 12/01/2017 18:16

Enid I got it from eBay - whichever top seller was cheapest/ free delivery when I ordered.

Shop · 12/01/2017 18:34

little I noticed a difference in a couple of days.

Aurora I have acne prone (but not oily) skin with hormonal breakouts. I'd introduced TO niacinamide & been overusing acid toners and benzoyl peroxide and generally being too harsh (I do know better!) and my not very sensitive skin became sensitive.
I'd gone back to just mineral makeup, no primer using gentle face wash and just effaclar duo & sunscreen in the morning and effaclar & Rosehip on an evening.
The Azelaic acid arrived as I'd preordered when I got the other stuff so I had read up and tried it. It felt very siliconey which I'd avoid normally but put it on at night and could see a difference then next day. It's steadily improved and I've only had 1 tiny whitehead since I've used it whereas before I was getting 2/3 big cystic spots every month which left dark purple marks. I'll try and attach a pic of my cheeks which were clusters of PIHs

apologies for the long post Blush

AuroraPolaris · 12/01/2017 18:56

Shop you never have to apologize for long posts here Grin
And thanks for sharing the info! I'm so happy your skin is doing so much better.

Enid very interesting what you write about the Cicaplast!

Bought that new Essie gel polish duo today in a beautiful taupe-mauve colour called ehhhmmm take me to thread Hmm. Will report^^ whether it really lasts...

EnidButton · 12/01/2017 19:27

Your skin is looking good Shop! I also have acne prone but not oily skin and I get spots in the same places as you. So you think it's the Azelaic acid that has made the biggest difference?

Aurora and Bunny Thank you both. This'll shock you but I don't have an eBay account! I know! Ridiculous really. Going to add that to my list of stuff to do before the end of this month.

I bought a lovely red Essie polish last week. Forever Yummy. Name not as good as 'take me to the thread' Grin but it was easy to apply as the brush was wide and lasted a whole week. I used a nails inc base and top coat though which is a good one for making polish last.

RubyGoat · 12/01/2017 19:29

Would anyone be interested in a separate thread for clean eating, reducing / cutting out sugar, & dietary tips for skin health, or are people happy with it on this thread? I looked for a thread but couldn't find a current one, & all the old threads seemed to be mostly for weight loss rather than health.

EnidButton · 12/01/2017 19:30

Take me to thread, I meant. Just googled the colour, very nice. Is it one of their gel ones?

botemp · 12/01/2017 19:38

Yes, Shop, never apologise about long posts I'd be doing so endlessly otherwise.

Enid, it's the panthenol or B5 that makes the difference, that's why the Skinceuticals B5 gel is such a cult product amongst acne sufferers and why the TO HA 2 % + B5 (which is a bit of a shameless dupe of the SC) seems better suited for the acneic.

Concealers for everyone! I'm so glad it worked out with the Nyx, Purple15. Is it actually the yellow one you got?

If it makes you feel better, Shrew, it's French beauty speak for mature, which I think I even belong to Shock, basically 30+ when you can use a bit more in terms of extra vitamins, hydration, and antioxidants as late nights aren't as easy to recuperate from as they used to be. It's funny it appears most sales people have a preferential P50 and it just sort of depends who you end up with, the lady in the video from BR I linked to a few times loves the W. Where Aurora and I buy it from is a tad obsessed with the full strength, just get the 50ml travel size and you'll do fine with the V.

Yes, skip C (any reason you're not using it in the AM?) I doubt you're going in with anything super active after the Retinoil (you can't do P50 with it, think we already discussed it) everything else will penetrate fine. Will have to look it up but was reading a short article where some famous facialist was advocating starting with oil for penetration purposes, which didn't make the most sense to me but will have to reread what it was actually saying.

Yes, CosRx from Jolse is usually the cheapest and I think first order gets a discount of 10%, although it may be a referral thing. Takes about 3-4 weeks.

I do come bearing more shitty discontinuation news, due to regulations changes in SK, CosRx is no longer allowed to sell their BHA domestically. As far as I understand it they will continue producing it as they can export it and CosRx is a more popular brand outside SK than in, and it's their best selling product but it does carry caution for the possibility that long term these things may change and will most likely start reflecting in the price too as online traders have always had to lower prices to compete with ebay sellers. So if you're seriously attached to it, stock up.

Well done Funny, I'm about to start typing up my notes for you. Will probably be a while Blush. And just invite DP onto the thread we'll exchange some sugar-free recipes with him so he can expand his repertoire.

I don't think I could keep up with another thread, Lego. And I really object to the term clean eating If others are finding disturbing/disruptive, I'm fine with shutting up about it and having it live elsewhere.

OP posts:
littlepinkfizz · 12/01/2017 19:41

Which in your esteemed opinion is best... Alpha Luquid gold or Rodial extreme acid peel. I got small samples of each and both have worked really well for me in that my skin is very smooth, clear,no visible pores and fine lines have faded.
I want to repurchase something similar..or is the P50 what I'm looking for?

Also is the Ultrasun Spf50 a good daily facial sunscreen?

Many thanks and thanks to shop re the azaelic acid. It doesn't seem to be having a noticeable effect on my redness yet 😢

purple15 · 12/01/2017 19:45

Botemp

Nyx concealer
Yes it is the yellow one - makes such a difference.

RubyGoat · 12/01/2017 20:00

botemp - I actually quite like the recipe talk on this thread, but I'd noticed a couple of comments asking for it to be kept just for skincare stuff... I was a bit worried about starting asking questions etc. Am a bit of a foodie... Yes I agree, I don't like the term "Clean Eating" either, but that's the name on the book I like. I prefer to think of it just as eating more healthily. More natural, less chemicals.

Is it normal for the LRP Anthelios to be out of stock for ages at EPP - I'm waiting for that to come in before I place an order. Will I be waiting months for the sunny weather before they restock?

AuroraPolaris · 12/01/2017 20:02

Lego I don't want a separate thread either. Was hard enough to keep up with the first of these threads and the AB thread. I couldn't remember where/ what I was telling bo Grin
And I like this thread and the ppl on it Star

Yes Enid it's s gel one. Dried really really fast, wow!!!

Littlepink I liked LG a lot, but I think P50 is much better.

(Runs to eBay to stock on Corx BHA for DS. God forbid I'll have to introduce him to that cruel aspect of life that is discounted products Grin).

AuroraPolaris · 12/01/2017 20:06

I just call it normal eating Grin

But we have been discussing other health issues, which I find very lovely, helpful and even if it doesn't concern me plain interesting.
