Yet More Fantastic Skincare and Where To Find It

Thread 1

Thread 2

Thread 3

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1,2, and 3 are worth reading, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

This January we're doing some added extra chitchat about food and diet and reducing or eliminating sugar for both overall and skin health. Recipe sharing encouraged.

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, please do read through the previous threads first. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer one or to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly either.

Sorry about that bold font... don't know why that happen Xmas Hmm

UntamedShrew · 11/01/2017 20:42

Sorry if you all know this already but for any Londoners, Liberty stocks P50... the chap on the counter recommended the P50V, anyone have any experience of this variant? It's my next planned purchase for next month.

Hollin, so sorry to hear about the deluge. How maddening.

Finally - I've got my pestle and mortar oil. Not keen on the smell! But my skin felt very soft this morning. One thing I'm confused by is the order of my routine now with this. I would never apply a retinol to damp skin (to avoid irritation), and I'd never apply an oil to dry skin (I find it drying). This is a retinol oil, so do I go for damp skin or at least post-serum skin? Or dry to avoid irritation? Confused Thanks!

Also concealer is here and I love it. Shade 2 perfect. Gave it quite the challenge too, as I was up four times with DD last night... arghhhh.

EnidButton · 11/01/2017 21:04

So the MUFE foundation is not for me unfortunately. It pooled into all the ceases and cling to any dry patches making me look oily and dry and the same time. I went with R210 in the end which I thought matched really well but after half an hour I looked a bit...muddy? Confused Which apparently means it's the wrong tone but I've been wearing and buying make up and clothing colours in the basis that I am cool toned for about 20 years. If it turns out I'm warmed toned then I'm fecked. Staring at wrists in different lights and still can't work it out. I can't be warm!

Hollin That's shit! 😠 how have they not fixed that yet? Totally useless. Flowers

Pupsiecola · 11/01/2017 21:15

Openminded they're medium thickness I would say. Not thin and runny, but not gloopy either. I really like them. They are so comfortable on my skin and you don't need oodles. Good value for money and the night one smells divine (I usually try to avoid scented products).

AuroraPolaris · 11/01/2017 21:16

Wanted to post a few more ideas irt zero sugar and quiting ready made meals or sauces, which usually contain a lot of sugar.
So these are a few of my "fast food" solutions-

Green beans served on pasta, rice etc.
Boil the beans until they are cooked but firm. Drain. In same pan heat oil (you can now fry a bit of onion and garlic if you have more time) return the beans to the pan, season with a bit of soy sauce and a bit of balsamic vinegar. Add some chopped almonds and/or cashews. The second stage should not take more than 3-4 min so the beans stay firm.
You can improvise on this by adding a tin of cooked beans or chickpeas.

For tomato sauce - chop some cherry tomatoes put in a pan over medium heat, add some olive oil, salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar and mash with back of a spoon or potato masher. 5 min max!
Another version of this is to put all the ingredients in an oven dish and just put under the grill while you are doing something else.

Quick way to make vegetable soup - peel and slice all the veg you want in the soup and lay on an oven dish (on baking paper if you want to save time washing dishes). Add an onion chopped in quarters and a couple of cloves of garlic. Season, drizzle with oil and put to roast in the oven. When ready transfer to a pan, add boiling water, mash with stick blender (or put in liquidizer) and correct seasoning. Optional - add a bit of coconut milk.

Hope it's not obvious Grin

(OMG OMG OMG the emohis (mot typo ;) are gone)

mintleaves · 11/01/2017 21:24

Bo thanks for the reply re Klairs a few pages back - the cleanser I was looking at turned out to have alcohol as its second ingredient so giving them a miss.

Enid I have exactly the same Celtic colouring: pale skin, dark hair, and I recently came to the surprising conclusion that I am at least semi warm toned (lukewarm toned? Grin). The vein test was inconclusive as I appear to have both purple and green veins but in terms of the colours and tones that suit me, it seems to be mostly the warmer end of the spectrum at the moment..

AuroraPolaris · 11/01/2017 21:24

Shrew so happy you are in love wijt the concealer. Bit of magic, right?

From what I understand P50V is supposed to be in between W and the normal one irt "strength", so they usually recommend you start with W and build up. I skipped it and went from travel size W to the normal, but introduced it gradually with wet cotton pads, just in case.

P50
Water (Aqua), Gluconolactone, Lactic Acid, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Citric Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Magnesium Chloride, Malic Acid, Vinegar (Acetum), Phytic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Cochlearia Armoracia (Horseradish) Root Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Rumex Acetosa Leaf Extract, Myrtus Communis Extract, Comniphora Myrrha Resin Extract, Allium Cepa (Onion) Bulb Extract, Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Oil, Sulfur, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate

P50V
Water (Aqua), Gluconolactone, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Lactic Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Vinegar (Acetum), Magnesium Chloride, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Phytic Acid, Spongilla Lacustris Spicule Extract, Yeast Extract (Faex Extract), Cochlearia Armoracia (Horseradish) Root Extract, Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Seed Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Sulfur, Sodium Salicylate, Salicylic Acid, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Metabisulfite, Sodium Benzoate.

P50W

Pupsiecola · 11/01/2017 21:42

Feet I can do you a P50W decant if you ping me your address. If you can do it tonight I can wrap the remaining ones in the morning and post.

It will be last one decant for a while - it'll be my fifth, and with the little pots I've purchased (don't usually decant for travel so didn't have any) and the postage that'll be my skincare charity budget spent for a few months Grin.

Very happy to have been able to help out though Smile.

UntamedShrew · 11/01/2017 21:50

Aurora thank you, that makes sense. I've been using an exfoliating toner for a while so maybe I can go straight to the V version, albeit with a damp cotton wool etc.

botemp · 11/01/2017 22:04

What is your neighbour up to, Hollin? Is he installing a pool or something? Shock

Little pink, rosehip oil is real hit or miss I feel, I strangely find the TO Nia an amplifier of other actives, don't quite know how it does that but I used it with the Retinoid last night and I'm especially sensitive due to my period coming on last night and it was a bit potent, and it was definitely the Nia I was feeling so don't know what's up with that, but it also may just be me.

Shrew, P50V is ahem meant for more mature skin don't shoot me, shoot the counter boy/man, it has some added vitamins/extracts (hence the V, I suppose a focus on hydration and nourishment) but in profile is similar in strength and composition to P50W, slightly stronger and let's say good for drier skin Wink. Phew on the concealer

In other P50 news, I finally figured out what that P50T is all about, it's specially formulated at a max of 10% AHA and pH over 3.5 as the Canadian government has changed its rules on what consumers are allowed to purchase. A very watered down P50 in other words. No interest to us then Grin.

botemp · 11/01/2017 22:07

Hmm, I don't think those INCI are correct, Aurora. IIRC both P50V and W don't contain salicylic acid but a salt form of it.

That's strange re the INCI bo. I'll check again tomorrow. Too tired now...

Re mature skin - is that what DD told you? At the time he told me I could just switch from W to normal...

Littlepink I found rosehip oil a bit much in the beginning, but after a few weeks my skin got kind of used to it, and I absolutely love it now and have been using it for more than two years almost every day. Maybe try it on alternate days and mix with cream and massage into skin? It is indeed quite potent!

Thanks for the Kefir info!

hollinhurst84 · 11/01/2017 22:22

Apparently it's the central heating pipes. Which are incased in his concrete floor Sad
This could go on for a while

littlepinkfizz · 11/01/2017 22:23

Thanks bo and aurora. Will maybe skip the TO niac next time I use the rosehip .

botemp · 11/01/2017 22:26

Look at the Bioderma Photoderm Max SPF50+, it might be down to easyparapharmacie they're French, so naturally their website is a bit shitty since it isn't minitel anymore but for whatever reason only the 400ml is advertised as waterproof, it has a very high PPD rating (protection against UVA rays which increase in high altitudes, With every 1000 metres increase in altitude, UV levels increase by 10% to 12%) so it's perfect for the very fair who go skiing/mountaineering, etc. I think I clarified it later, it was a US study and due to their limited allowance of UV filters their sunscreens are already inferior but there were a lot of kids sunscreens that were supposed to be waterproof that weren't and therefore lost their protection, not so much on the back of the actual filters.

Just the INCI for P50W seems off, the V appears to be the same. Nope various P50 info sites inform V is the one for the dry mature. Though I think DD said the same, but I can't really remember properly as he talks a lot.

P50W:

Aqua, Gluconolactone, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Propylene Glycol, Lactic Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Magnesium chloride, Malic Acid, Vinegar, Phytic acid, Citric Acid, Quillaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Cochlearia Armoracia Root Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Sulfur, Allantoin, Sodium salicylate, Serine, Urea, Sorbitol, TEA-LACTATE, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Benzoate

P50V:

Water, Gluconolactone, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Lactic Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Vinegar, Magnesium chloride, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Phytic acid, Spongilla Lacustris Spicule Extract, Yeast Extract, Cochlearia Armoracia Root Extract, Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract, Juglans Regia Seed Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Sulfur, Sodium salicylate, Salicylic Acid, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Metabisulfite, Sodium Benzoate

Shrew, totally lost my train of thought earlier but I'd use the P&M oil straight after cleansing and I'd try it on damp skin if that works better for you. The retinol form P&M use really is very gentle and you really should use it first in your routine, go for dry skin at first and see how you get on, maybe?

I'm really not paying attention, rec for Bioderma sunscreen for outdoor use is for StainlessSteelButtercup.

pink I use TO Azelaic & Rosehip oil, it occasionally balls up but only if I put the oil on immediately after the Azelaic, so long as I leave it 10mins or so it's fine. I was also like Aurora in regards to taking a little while to love the Rosehip oil. I stopped using TO niacinamide as I was unsure if it was causing redness & breakouts. I may try again at some point.
The Azelaic acid i can't ever see me being without, it's been totally transformative for my skin :)

AuroraPolaris · 11/01/2017 22:56

hollin that's absolutely horrible!! Poor you!!!

Hey I don't even seem to have the chocolate emohi now?!?!?

I totally agree bo - P50, SCon and StPal emohis would save us sooo much time Grin

(Trying to ignore DH who is talking to me about Russian pee parties... let's just pretend the world is full of only wonderful skincare and beautiful lipsticks... at least till tomorrow morning)

AuroraPolaris · 11/01/2017 22:57

Still looking for the chocolate emohi????

botemp · 11/01/2017 23:07

Russian pee parties Shock, are there Trump developments I'm missing (don't like to pay attention to news at night as I find it all too depressing sometimes)? Sickeningly enough there are some people obsessed with getting pee in their skincare, thankfully Urea is now created in the lab.

It's just [ chocolate ] without the spaces, just tried it once and it worked. Bear has gone missing from below too...

Mint and Stainless I'm wondering if I'm more neutral now. Could have a mix of greenish blue and purple blue veins. Have to look again in daylight. Maybe I've just gone a bit sallow. HmmGrin

Aurora Like the look of that easy soup!

littlepinkfizz · 12/01/2017 10:38

Shop that's good to know.I have gone without the niac this morning and am going to do so for a fortnight to see if the azeliac acid works better without it. How long was it before you noticed a difference? I am not sing it because I have redness under my nose

littlepinkfizz · 12/01/2017 10:38
