My no1 tip for swooshy hair...share your TOP TIP for hair or elsewhere!

OK, I am lucky enough to have long, thick "posh girl" hair. It does go a bit frizzy but is generally Naice Hair.

Long story short, the other day, I omitted my usual "apply conditioner and comb through whilst in shower". My hair was SHIT. It was full of tugs and dried frizzy and was hard to comb/style.

I can now confirm this is what makes the difference.

Buy a comb and keep it in your shower! :-)

What is your TOP TIP for hair or elsewhere on the body?

"Posh girl" hair??? Confused

comfortandgin · 21/12/2016 20:31

I know exactly what you mean by "posh girl" hair OP. And yes, combing conditioner through makes the world of difference! Emulsify first, comb, leave, rinse. Viola! Swish.

WanMairChoon · 21/12/2016 20:42

I too have "posh grl hair", it's really not sitting right today.....I didn't brush before I washed it. So that's my tip!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 21/12/2016 20:56

Lapin: "swooshy" hair and "posh-girl" hair are a THING on MN. Grin

Oh yes, I always brush before washing! I read that tip in Sugar magazine circa 1995 and do it without thinking!

I have posh girl hair. It swooshes best using lidls version of head and shoulders! I don't do anything but wash twice, condition blow dry every three days, sometimes I need to straighten it but that will last the three days until the next wash.

1horatio · 21/12/2016 22:06

I brush my hair when there's conditioner in it as well.

Well.... blow drying?

I just separate my hair in half horizontally and blow dry the top with large curlers (I don't want curls. Just swooshy non-frizzy volume), and then blow dry the bottom.... (sorry, I think we all know how to blow dry hair. But this way it takes less than 10 minutes and looks quite nice). A brush with natural bristles is the best imo.

Protective hairstyles during the night.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 21/12/2016 22:12

My hair is my absolute crowning glory....shiny, glossy and thick!!! One thing I do is spend around three - five minutes washing out the conditioner. It makes a world of difference. I comb through the conditioner but that is only half of it....it is time well spent making sure it is all rinsed out!!!!

Bejazzled · 21/12/2016 22:26

Only condition the length of the hair (not roots)
Take Superior Hair capsules from Victoria Health

I'm over 50 and my hair has always been my best and only good feature.

tighterthanscrooge · 22/12/2016 09:35

Another one with posh girl hair!
As a PP said only condition the bottom half, never the roots! Also once a week I put on an intensive conditioning treatment and leave it on under a shower cap for a good few hours

Newtssuitcase · 22/12/2016 09:39

My top tip for swishy hair is....

wait for it....

Hedrin nit lotion.

I discovered this after having to apply two bottles to my very long thick hair when one of the DSs came back from school with nits. I liberally applied it to everyone in the house whether or not there was any sign of the little buggers. My hair afterwards was so super swishy and shiny it was unbelievable. It was like I'd had a full clarifying treatment and posh blow dry at the hairdressers.

MrsBellefleur · 22/12/2016 09:44

I have found conditioning first, brush whilst conditioner is in then rinse well and gently shampoo using fingers to to agitate my scalp, rinse well again is the best way of getting my hair looking decent.

I used to shampoo then condition and it was still knotty and brittle afterwards. Much better now!

burnishedsilver · 22/12/2016 10:08

I too have found that my hair looks fantastic after nit treatment Hmm

burnishedsilver · 22/12/2016 10:10

Wrong emoji there. That was genuine. The oily nit treatments seem to be very conditioning.

Trills · 22/12/2016 10:12

Have good genes.

Not a tip that's easy to follow, I'll admit.

Dulcimena · 22/12/2016 10:16

If only you could get those from Boots, Trills Grin

MrsMeeseeks · 22/12/2016 10:23

My top tip is to add a squirt of violet crazy colour to your usual conditioner instead of forking out for a purple conditioner or ash toner.

clayspaniel · 22/12/2016 10:34

Can you post pictures of your lovely posh girl hair?

hollinhurst84 · 22/12/2016 10:38

I guess tips depends on your hair? I have thick curly hair and have to apply conditioner from the scalp and in handfuls!

MrsMeeseeks · 22/12/2016 10:49

Definitely, hollinhurst. I have curly hair too and would never touch it with a hairbrush or shampoo!

JanetStWalker · 22/12/2016 11:55

Mine's thick and quite curly but when it's been smoothed over with straighteners it transforms into swishy posh girl hair...I'm a follicular social climber Shock

Sunnyfeet · 22/12/2016 12:36

I only have posh girl hair if the hairdresser blow dries it. The rest of the time, I have 'welcome to the jungle' hair 😪

Saggingninja · 22/12/2016 12:40

I have thick, auburn shoulder length hair that needs little encouragement to become The Enchanted Forest of Frizz.

I also live in a hard water area.

Top tip. Once a week, two teaspoons of coconut oil combed into dry hair, sleep on it, then parabem/sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. Final rinse half a cup of cider vinegar into warm water (counteracts the hard water.)

Swooshtastic.

Ilovetorrentialrain · 22/12/2016 13:16

Hi OP, I too know what you man by 'posh girl hair' - good description!

I do not have this but marking place to hoover up tips.

Housewife2010 · 22/12/2016 16:27

I have fantastic hair; I make Kate Middleton look like Ken Dodd. I never ever brush it when wet. I brush it with a Mason & Pearson brush and use a wide tooth comb and rich conditioner on the length of my hair. I spend a long time rinsing it out. I also avoid heat appliances as much as possible.
