Ok, am a 40yo frump. Photo of me included.

Have booked in at hairdressers tomorrow for a pixi cut. Hair is currently past boobs. Really thick. I wear it tied back in a high pony tail all the time and need to do something as it's so boring.

So really cropped? A bit bouffant? Something in between? Or cancel the appt?

Looks ok with my glasses I think.

I have wax on it currently. What do I do tomorrow morning?

Will I have to wash today's wax out tonight? I don't normally wash my hair every day. Or do I add more wax tomorrow or will I not need to add any more wax and just sleep I. It?

I love your new cut, makes you look younger and thinner!

I would assess the bed hair in the morning.

Washing a drying will be easy at that length. My advice would be to blow dry using a round barrelled brush pulling upwards to give some height on the crown, then run straightening irons through the front and longer ends.
A tiny bit of wax run through with fingers will banish any fluffiness and give you more texture. Separate off some strands at the front by pulling through your fingers with a little wax on.

It sounds complicated but should be a doddle.

imjessie · 21/12/2016 18:55

You look loads younger !!

GirlOverboard · 21/12/2016 18:58

I have to say, I thought you wouldn't suit short hair at all, but you actually look more attractive and 10 years younger. I really like it Xmas Smile

fledglingFTB · 21/12/2016 18:58

It really suits you!

sarahnova69 · 21/12/2016 19:08

The right glasses will look fabulous with it also.

NeedANewHaircut · 21/12/2016 19:14

Will have to start a thread with pictures of me wearing different glasses in the new year and get advice!

This thread has been really helpful, thanks everyone.

Sleep on it and ruffle it

RandomDent · 21/12/2016 19:27

Gorgeous!
I just dry mine, spray on loads of hairspray and pull it into place. Dead easy.

Excellent. I'm a great fan of well cut shorter hair and it really suits you.

FriendofBill · 21/12/2016 23:54

Looks great!

Back needs to be shorter/shaved I reckon.

Look on you tube for styling tutorials.

You do look 10 years younger.

NotMeNoNo · 22/12/2016 01:11

It looks great in the short style. Did I miss the bit where you said which salon? Your regular or a proper posh city centre one?

I have a similar dilemma at the moment but I've got as far as a bob which is, to be fair, a bit blocky. People who say our sort of thick, wavy hair looks good long have no idea of the maintenance, it's scrape up or time consuming blow dry, you can never just leave it. And tied up is less forgiving to the face than a short cut.

PleaseNotTrump · 22/12/2016 04:18

Love this thread! Love how you ignored everyone and love your new hair. I didn't think it would suit you, but it really does Smile

Motherfuckers · 22/12/2016 05:28

I love it! It really suits you. You have good skin and can pull this off.q

honeylou42 · 22/12/2016 06:17

Wow it looks fantastic Xmas Smile

NeedANewHaircut · 22/12/2016 06:26

Well before yesterday I didn't have a regular hairdresser as I went once a year if that for a trim.

Just went to the hairdressers in the village and booked in with someone who could squeeze me in. Salon does have a good reputation.
