Ok, am a 40yo frump. Photo of me included.

Have booked in at hairdressers tomorrow for a pixi cut. Hair is currently past boobs. Really thick. I wear it tied back in a high pony tail all the time and need to do something as it's so boring.

So really cropped? A bit bouffant? Something in between? Or cancel the appt?

These are nice, if fll on Jean Seberg hair is too much for a first cut.
None if these women are elvin and look great.

jinglytinglypasta · 21/12/2016 09:20

OP - no!

It won't suit you.

Yes, it grows back but during that time you are stuck with a hideous in between haircut nobody in their right minds would want. I have been there!

A bob - short or long - won't go Lego if it is cut correctly. The secret is an undercut or layers, or both. I have really thick wavy hair and I've had lovely sleek bobs.

Chin length bob would be my recommendation. With a fringe so you can mess it all around and have fun styling it.

Good luck Flowers

manandbeast · 21/12/2016 10:00

Going against the grain but I think you should do it. I think it'll suit you

MummaGiles · 21/12/2016 11:12

Blatantly placemarking for pics from OP. I think a messy bob with long fringe would look great.

NeedANewHaircut · 21/12/2016 11:16

Still undecided and 5 hours till the appt!

Currently watching Fleabag, really don't like her hair.

Dh very keen for me to have a pixie cut. Said something about if I don't how he will "have to put up with my long hair" Hmm

Not sure it would suit you or me but I have serious envy of Robin wright (house of cards) hair atm.

pnutter · 21/12/2016 11:22

I say short . Go for it from me !!

pnutter · 21/12/2016 11:27

Satisfactorylemon · 21/12/2016 11:38

Honesty i don't think it will suit your face shape.

Aftertheraincomesthesun · 21/12/2016 13:23

Do it. Do it Grin

PollySyndeton · 21/12/2016 13:32

I've had a longish, messy bob before and because my hair is so thick and impossible to tame it just kind of went triangular and I looked like a Playmobil person

You have exactly the same type of hair as me OP.

I've had a pixie cut, bob, the 'Rachel', you name it...

What I have learnt is that I should never have hair shorter than my shoulders. It's so 'sproingy' it needs the weight to keep it hanging properly.

A pixie cut with your hair will need loads of styling and regular trims to stop it looking lego-ish. It'll end up more high maintenance than your current style. Also, growing it out will be an absolute mare. It's not a style you can reverse easily.

If you're bored and want a change, have a fringe cut in. Much easier to grow out when you're bored of it.

CaraAspen · 21/12/2016 13:34

Just don't.

NeedANewHaircut · 21/12/2016 13:37

Just spent ages trying to curl my hair with a wand. Loads of hairspray and it just doesn't work. I think I have impossible to style hair! Looks no bloody different.

It is seriously lovely hair. Do not go too short when you have hair like that.Smile

Fuzzypeggy · 21/12/2016 14:08

Your hair looks great on that pic. Leave it like it is!!

Newtssuitcase · 21/12/2016 14:17

Step away from the scissors..

RemusLupinsChristmasMovie · 21/12/2016 14:28

The curled style looks lovely.

MissWillaCather · 21/12/2016 14:30

I think you should go for it, and I speak as someone who's done it, liked it and now grown a bit again and changed colour. It's only hair!

As your hair is curly, I like pnutter's pic.

It will be fun to have a change, if you hate it you can grow it and you don't like your hair now anyway...

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 21/12/2016 15:08

The picture pnutter posted is lovely.

Newtssuitcase · 21/12/2016 15:49

There's a big difference between a hairstyle being lovely in itself and a hairstyle being lovely on a particular person.

Come back OP and let us know your thoughts.

imjessie · 21/12/2016 16:10

Have you decided yet?

MummyStep123 · 21/12/2016 17:06
