Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

No 2 on the bottle.

purple15 · 05/01/2017 15:39

Thank you to everyone who offered advice.

Over the course of yesterday I kept seeing the Biologique P50
To stop me spending 24 hours re reading the entire thread. Where can I purchase this please.

botemp · 05/01/2017 15:50

Thanks squoosh, that's the one.

Purple it can't be bought online. Pupsie will offer decants now and then to try out and see of its worth buying but she may be sick of doing so by now. I used to offer some but no longer can as I use a different one than the starter W version now. Just as a general FIY as much as I think P50 is amazing and wax lyrically about it please don't mistake it for some solve all miracle product. A proper steady routine should be in place first and this simply takes it to a new level (for some, again no guarantees).

Thanks Bo it's good to have another pair of eyes to help sometimes! I will look into what i can sell/gift Smile

As for your very helpful form:

Skin type: normal, hormonal spots along jawline. Slight oiliness throughout t-zone by the end of the day.

Approx age (range): 22

Primary skin concern: brightening, evening skin tone from previous spots (mainly on jawline, slightly onto cheek), spot prevention (not too sure how much can be done about this, skin was better when I was on the pill though).

Routine :

AM : This is the most stable area of my routine. The only change may be adding in a mask at the weekend.

Cleanse - Drunk Elephant juju bar
Vit C - Melano CC serum
Essence - May Coop raw sauce
Serum- Kypris antioxidant dew mixed with a few drops of Drunk Elephant marula oil
Mist - Tatcha luminous dewy skin mist
Moisturiser - Nude balancing moisturiser and Belief moisturising and firming eye cream

PM : I don't have a set night routine, I tend to mix it up with treatments/masks but the main steps stay the same.

1st Cleanse - Caudalie cleansing oil
2nd Cleanse - Drunk Elephant peeke bar
Exfoliate - Zelens pha+ bio peel pads
(Here is where I'll put a clay/exfoliating mask. If using an exfoliating mask I'll skip the peel pads)
Essence - May Coop raw sauce
Treat - Alternate between Ordinary lactic acid 10% and Ordinary niacinamide and alpha arbutin mixed together
(Here is where I'll use a sheet mask, I apply Hada Labo gokujuyn lotion before)
Oil - Nude progenius rescue oil
Mist - Tatcha luminous dewy skin mist
Moisturise - Tata Harper repairative moisturiser and Belif eye cream

Makeup : light coverage

Occasional treatments:
Masks, occasionally Ordinary retinol

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results: Not so much disastrous results but not sure how much the Ordinary products are doing for me, niacinamide and alpha arbutin particularly. Much prefer Holy Snails shark sauce which I will go back to.

Things that are really working well for me now: Vitamin C and niacinamide. I like to layer moisture rather than using one heavy layer, i feel it keeps my skin better hydrated throughout the day.

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant: No

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: £20-50 for a good treatment, less for cleanser/ moisturiser etc

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]: Refining my routine, decreasing the steps to only have necessary products which give results.

I need to spend another £8 to get free(ish) postage easypharmacie

Any suggestions? Grin

Dulcimena · 05/01/2017 16:40

Hope everyone is well. I've been trying to keep up with the thread but January so far has been ridiculously busy.

I think I already did Pupsie's form in December but I can't find the post, so here goes again using Bo's:

Discovery of the year:
Multiple layers of hydration (ty Aurora for that one Star ).

Muji peelable cotton wool pads - I cannot describe how much I love these Grin
Vit C and Niacinamide - not together, obvs
Surratt lipsliques
Chantecaille mascara - the cheap one, not tried longest lashes, yet

Would repurchase:
Benton Snail Bee Essence
TO Buffet
TO Niacinamide (I think...)
Most of the stuff I was already using (Ren rosa centrifolia cleansing gel, Bioderma, NY frankincense nourishing cream and rose facial oil, HL premium HA stuff, Korres s/s)

Planned purchases:
Benton Fermentation Essence
Benton Snail Bee Lotion
TO Azelaic

Won't repurchase:
TO Caffeine eye stuff - not hydrating, and adding an extra pillow has eliminated morning puff
TO Lactic acid 10%
P50 - just not convinced it's really doing anything for me (after 3 months of use still no foetus skin here) and it's too $$$ for an inconclusive result...
Shark Sauce/Snail Drops
Gosh growth mascara - too wet

Just OK:
TO Vit C. Hate the texture, love the price and results.
Benton Snail Bee steam cream - think this may be responsible for clogs sadly
TO Retinoid 2%
Gosh growth serum - stings, too early to know if it works

Still needed:
A Vit C serum that I enjoy using
A different niacinamide
A good eye serum. Redermic R arrived this morning so shall see how that goes!

mintmagnummm · 05/01/2017 17:38

That Clinique toner isn't no2 just incase anyone is planning on buying it, no2 is one of their many bad ones! The mild one is 1.5 on bottle.

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 17:42

These fucking spots!!! Angry

Ahem. I used a Sephora sheet mask (avocado) and an eye sheet mask (rose) today. Really liked the eye one. Could actually see a difference even after rinsing off. Skin does look brighter and actually feels firmer. Any idea what it is in the ingredients that my skin liked so much? Nothing is jumping out at me. Seems pretty basic.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Rose Extract, Triethanolamine, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract, Piroctone Olamine, Polyquaternium-51, Maltodextrin, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Citric Acid, Trideceth-6, Peg-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Fragrance, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.

Have started drinking decaf green tea again. Think you have to drink 5-6 cups for it to really do much anti oxidant wise but it tastes vile healthy and gets me in the right frame of mind for eating healthily the rest of the day.

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 17:43

Ah! ^ Aloe vera juice??

Tsmummy08 · 05/01/2017 18:05

Bo I have some pH strips but they start at pH5.5 so they're useless for this. Will find some tomorrow. I've been using vit Cs for years and this doesn't feel any more sting-y or strong than the Skinceuticals one. Given I'm also using retinol (which last year made me hyper sensitive to everything) I'd expect to be really sensitive to a battery acid strength vit C unless my face has turned into leather which is a possibility Xmas Grin,

Will report back when I've got my science hat on :)

Juicyfrooty · 05/01/2017 18:22

Hi,

I'd love the advice of you wise gurus...

Skin type: not sure really, a bit oily on my chin area and have to be careful what I use in this area as lots of products seem to cause breakouts. Forehead can be a little dry/dehydrated. Cheeks are quite well behaved!

*Approx age (range): mid 30's

*Primary skin concern: just want to look a bit fresher. I have large pores and blackheads on my nose. Dark circles under the eyes with deep tear troughs. Some mild discolouration from pregnancy.

*Routine : am and pm. Either neutrogena pink grapefruit wash or body shop cream cleanser (either aloe or vit e) washed off with a hot cloth. Olay complete care moisturiser. Boots witch hazel gel on any spotty bits if needed

Makeup : quite full coverage, currently using l'oreal infallible foundation and maybelline age rewind concealer

*Occasional treatments: none

*Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results: anything with mineral oil in breaks my chin out, same for most lip balms, they give me spots around my mouth.

The la Roche posay toleraine cleanser broke me out.

This is mostly a problem I have with cleansers because with moisturisers I just dodge my chin area

*Things that are really working well for me now: the body shop cleansers and olay moisturiser

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits. Around the 25 quid mark

*I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]: not sure just feel like I should be doing more

littlepinkfizz · 05/01/2017 19:12

funnybunny would you please let me loose with your stash!

Were do you get The DE from? Is the TLC really as good as the reviews, question to anyone who has tried it?

I'm desperate to find something other than steroid cream to tackle a patch of eczema in between my thumb and forefinger. Has anyone any recommendations please?

Thanks in advance

mintmagnummm · 05/01/2017 19:13

I have a very sore blind spot on my chin! The area looks red and is extremely tender and can feel a big lump Angry

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 19:30

I feel your pain Mint (literally.)

It was a pomegranate eye mask not rose. Ingredients look virtually the same anyway.

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits. The cheaper the better but I will spent about £30

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]: Just anti aging

I have been studying the threads for a few days and want to try the
LRP Toleriane range (the cleanser and day and night cream
The oil I was thinking about trying :Clarins Lotus Oil.

The question I have is which toner should I use? I have got the name Paulas choiceBHA written down. I have asked questions about the P50 and realise it cant be ordered on line (thank you botemp for that information )

Also , yesterday I was questioning my SPF which is currently the Anthelios XL 50 BB cream, although this is dark for my colouring. Yesterday I got some fantastic advice suggesting the one from China ( cant seem to find the name at the moment)

goldielookingchain · 05/01/2017 19:41

Botemp thanks. Wet very much. I appreciate your input x

wiltingfast · 05/01/2017 20:28

I'm going to say it was the broccoli enid Grin

Mint , have you any TO niacinamide? I find it marvellous for chasing away threatening spots...

EnidButton · 05/01/2017 20:36
Grin
wiltingfast · 05/01/2017 20:56

I got another Asian beauty mask from tk maxx NMF Aquaring even though I hadn't used the first one I bought a few threads back Blush

It has mushroom. And ceramides. And allantoin. And carrageenan. And sodium hyaluronate Smile

It was nice anyway, I'd recommend. V hydrating! Actually now I think about it possibly the reason my skin feels "normal" this week. must go back to tk maxx and buy more

wiltingfast · 05/01/2017 20:57

So forget niacinamide and matrixyl, it's mushrooms and broccoli!! Grin

AuroraPolaris · 05/01/2017 20:58

wilting I always stick up on their double packs of Weleda shower stuff or the Weleda Rose oil which I adore.
Last time saw they now have organic teas (like Yogi tea).
Bioderma?

AuroraPolaris · 05/01/2017 20:59

Stock up... grrrrr

botemp · 05/01/2017 21:05

Just got back in after being told I had to attend some emergency meeting in Rotterdam, even though I'm supposed to be bloody well off work until Monday Angry and am attempting to thaw my fingers back to life with giant mug of tea and a dinner of rice crackers with some nut butter... so needless to say won't be getting to any questionnaires tonight bloody hell is it five now? Shock So will catch up the rest now and hopefully get to the other stuff tomorrow.

FunnyBunny01, I'm a little shocked by your age. In terms of skincare you're a baby, and having gone through your stash list I'd assumed you were in your late 40's-50's as that's the type of products you bought. If you're open to it I'll start itemising everything in your list to sort of distinguish what may actually be of use to you and what you won't be needing for at least a decade or two? Are you of Asian descent/have a predisposition to pigmentation, btw? I hope they're helping you out over on the hoarders thread wrt triggers, etc. as I can understand the unhappiness with your skin condition can lead to and you'll need to tackle the psychology of that too.

Outside of skincare what have you done to tackle the hormonal acne (I assume the biggest concern currently)? Have you been under treatment for it (beyond birth control improving the situation), food allergies testing, eliminating diets, etc.?

Wilting, do you have the Bioderma hydrabio SPF30 in there yet? Klorane dry shampoo also nice.

You need powdered matcha green tea, Enid (and the bamboo whisk and chawan). It's an acquired taste but I really enjoy it, sometimes mix it in with a green juice but mostly drink a cup in the morning. Has crazy amount of antioxidant and nutritional value.

littlepink back away from poor funnybunny's stash it's all mine Grin I only ever get mild eczema on my hands, pure shea butter or Weleda skin food and some cotton gloves worn overnight (also good for putting hosiery on) usually sorts it out for me. Aurora and her vast experience with atopic DC will probably have better advice.

Ehm, Enid. It's the glycerin... from everything of any substance before phenoxyethanol (maximum allowance is 1% so everything after that is always less than 1% of the formulation) that's the highest contender, combined with letting it sit on your face for a minimum of 20 mins, that's all I'm afraid sheet mask rip off 101

JAPAN, not China Purple, don't ever purchase the Biore from China, it's most likely a different formulation or fake. Biore is from Japan.

Pinkfizz try the Hübner silica gel. I wrote about it yesterday -

https://www.farmaline.nl/drogisterij/bestellen/hubner-silicea-vloeibaar/?gclid=CKP-8uXzq9ECFQoA0wod6z8AKw&expa=gglp&adword=google-product/%7Befcampaign%7D/%7Beffadgroup%7D/%7BKeyword%7D&efid=WG60sgAAAKE29V8F:20170105210346:s

For some reason on amazon U.K. it 40£ while here it's only around 10€...

AuroraPolaris · 05/01/2017 21:12

Yeah was going to say that in between silica application you can create Moisture barrier with Weleda Skin Food just like bo said.
Mind you last week I had some eczema on my arm from the cryotherapy. It's the arm I have the problems with, so I assumed it was the inflammation coming to the surface, so to speak, as I've never had eczema. I used some jojoba oil on it and it worked better than the Skin Food.
