Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

I've just realised I copy pasted the wrong product Hollin, it's the CosRx Acne Pimple Master Patch.

braceybracegirl · 01/01/2017 22:04

Fab I will get it from BS direct. Thank you. Do you think worth me trying the moisturisers I've bought? Did I get the right paulas choice in the end??

hollinhurst84 · 01/01/2017 22:08

Fab, having a look st them now
Going to make a concentrated effort to drink more water, take my omega 3 and also zinc

botemp · 01/01/2017 22:11

There was some speculation about your skin type, you indicated dry but I suspected it's more likely dehydration/combo and recced the normal BHA 2% Perfecting Liquid, not the CLEAR version so it's a toss up but I think you'll be okay with that one, just use on blemish prone and blackhead areas only. If you find it too drying switch to the 2% Perfecting Liquid. Wrt moisturisers, you're not especially sensitive going by your answers so I think you'll be okay to use those.

Star 2016 skincare likes Star

TO VIT C - very pleased, though wish that in the future they improve the texture.

TO Matryxil - love this and have been surprised by how hydrating it is.

TO Retinol - purchased this but haven't used it yet as still have the SC.

Sulwhasoo (all samples from eBay) -

cleansing oil - most amazing cleansing oil I've used (as second cleanser). Feels like silk on your skin and the smell is divine.

ginger oil - super concentrated, lovely and rich. Just RP.

GOA ampoule - I got 10 tiny bottles of the ampoule so in total 30ml for just about 20€. Amazing and competes with the Lotus Oil for the title of Best Smell in the World. Will RPbyye samples. Full price for the same amount is a bit insane...

DHC oil cleanser - this is my first PM cleanser at the moment. Very effective so might RP.

Sheet masks-
My Scheming black pearl - nice but nothing special.
Narüko magnolia and Rose masks - love them.
L'HERBOFLORE Biocellular HA mask - best sheet mask I've ever used! This is seriously brightening and tightening and you see the results the next day as well.

Narüko night jelly - lovely, very hydrating and brightening.

Benton snail bee essence - just run out will definitely RP.

Mizon Black Snail - love it. Very light and hydrating. I layer thins over TO Matryxil in the AM at the moment.

Mizon Snail Repair Ex eye cream. Pretty pleased. The INCI list is very impressive and so I'm kind of judging by that and not by how it feels, as I think a lot of eye creams are made to "feel" a certain way in order to give the ilusión/felling they are doing something instantenously.

Casmara gold mask -Simply mazing! Brightening tightening ... And fun!

Anessa facial UV - both the silver and the gold tubes. Also extremely pleased with this and will RP provided they keep the silicone content to present levels (crosses fingers).

&&&&&&

Discovery of the year:*
TO, Casmara mask, Narüko, Sulwhasoo, Anessa, L'Herboflore HA mask

Other stuff I'm using and will repurchase:*
P50, Clarins Lotus Oil, Caudelie Polyphenol Oil, Clarins CC cream

Happy to give away/trade:*
Have lots of samples, will have a rummage this week.

Curious to try-
Anything from Narüko
Benton Aloe Vera Spray
Gekka Sleeping pack

If trading, looking for the following:*
Surprise me Xmas Grin

Botemp.

I would really appreciate you giving me some feedback on my regime and see if there's anything you would add.

I have dry, eczema prone skin (but this isn't bad and I manage it quite well with diet and antihistamine)

Current regime is
Night
Nip and fab glycolic pads
Skinceuticals CE Ferulic

Day
Heliocare moisturiser

I am 33 with little signs of aging but would like to keep it that way!

AuroraPolaris · 01/01/2017 22:23

hollin and bo - those patches sound like smg one could DIY with some acid, gauze and sensitive skin tape, no?

Enid your skirt sounds lovely, and I'm certainly all for wearing nice stuff for no reason!!!

Will list makeup likes tomorrow.

Also - I think the Magnesium pills have slightly improved my sleep (Orthica 400). And since I'm not the best sleeper every bit helps. I think they work best if I take one around 21:30. So thanks to whoever participated in that discussion!

AuroraPolaris · 01/01/2017 22:25

hollin beware of that Lancôme foundation- I looked it up for someone here a couple of weeks ago. It has paraffin!!!!

hollinhurst84 · 01/01/2017 22:27

Aurora - I've been using a sample of it! Got a 10ml one
Is that really bad? I'm not great with ingredients yet Blush

AuroraPolaris · 01/01/2017 22:30

Well it's basically vaseline/ petroleum but if you are not sensitive to that, it doesn't clog you and you don't mind using it I guess it's OK. Some ppl just stay away from it.

botemp · 01/01/2017 22:31

For $4 delivered here from SK I am not DIYing, although the stupid name might inspire me to, who calls their product the Pimple Master Confused

You've reminded me, Aurora, I want those special Biocellulose ones from Naruko, think the ebay seller must be back now or soon.

goldielookingchain, it's easier for me when I know more by the use of the questionnaire form in the OP. Are you not cleansing at all in the morning or using any form of moisturiser and dare I ask SPF? Won't be able to answer in full to a questionnaire tonight, but I'll have a look tomorrow.

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 01/01/2017 22:32

Hmmm. Tricky! It doesn't seem to break me out but I have a cleanser with mineral oil which I'm not sure about
I think I'm ok with it in makeup but prefer it not to be in my skincare. If that makes sense?!

AuroraPolaris · 01/01/2017 22:38

Yes bo bit DIYing is so satisfying Xmas Grin
Which Naruko biocellulose????

AuroraPolaris · 01/01/2017 22:40

Pimple master, Trekpleister, Kruidvat.... and the list goes on

botemp · 01/01/2017 22:46

The NARUKO ampm RealXpert 10% Peptide Rejuvenating Mask 3pcs Bio Cellulose - R, Aurora.

We both totally forgot to mention the Tony Moly Shiny Foot peel Shock!

Also, my other fab find of the year, the DHC Olive Virgin Oil Swabs that are the best touchup cotton swabs that are presoaked with just the right amount of olive oil to correct your makeup and come sealed individually wasteful but makes them ideal for keeping a few in your bag too.

Also the Muji unbleached cotton pads and the Muji black squiggly cotton swabs which are ideal for removing tubing mascara remnants from your eye post cleansing.

OP posts:
AuroraPolaris · 01/01/2017 23:01

Wow, that's a looong name for a mask, or for anything skincare for that matter.

Oh yeah the foot masks/peel. Just finished the process a few days ago. They worked but not as well as half a year ago. I didn't soak my feet at all this time, though...

I'm sure I've forgotten a few other things Xmas Wink

botemp · 02/01/2017 08:42

Long name mask appears to be discontinued Sad, will have to continue looking for a non-fragranced Biocellulose again.

Did see they have some new sciencey ingredient masks out under the NRK line, including a Niacinamide themed one.

JDSTER · 02/01/2017 10:49

Great idea to do 2016 likes. I'll update later on that. Any thoughts on dermalogica microfoliant? Found some in the cupboard and wondered whether it's ok to use on face or should I relegate to body or bin?

botemp · 02/01/2017 11:28

Is it still sealed and not very old? I know some people really love it but it just appears to be a physical exfoliant, it has some active ingredients in it (I think AHA or BHA, maybe both?) but it washes off before it can really do anything.

OP posts:
JDSTER · 02/01/2017 12:42

It's very old and not sealed! It's dry powder to be mixed with water hence I thought it might be ok to use but may relegate

FizzyBubbly · 02/01/2017 13:16

Ok, DH has bought the Redermic R and Anthelios (thanks Bo) and says he's willing to play Guinea pig! How long he'll keep it up for is another matter.

Am sure I've missed some bits but here's my skincare of 2016

Discovery of the year:
Rapid lash - Not necessarily skincare but I've been using it (on brows and lashes) for 6 weeks and I am truly astonished. I get HD brows done every 5-6 weeks, last time done was 2 weeks ago and they're in a desperate state already!

Would repurchase:
TO vitamin C
TO Matrixyl
Cerave PM
Body Shop Camomile Cleansing butter (been using a week and love it!)
PC BHA (bought the lotion by mistake, will get liquid next time)
Biore Watery Essence SPF50

Planned purchases:
BR P50W
LRP Toleriane Dermo Cleanser when current cleanser is finished
Will try DHs Anthelios when it arrives and if ok will get some myself to replace the Biore in Summer
The Bioderma SPF mist that's been mentioned a few times
LRP Serozinc

Won't repurchase:
Cetaphil - no real problems but am sure the LRP will be better
Clinique City Block SPF40 - takes ages to sink in although now I'm not using a tinted SPF my foundation isn't as heavy coverage as I thought it was
Bravura - bought a whole routine, no real problem and introduced me to acids but found the peels too time consuming
LRP Roselaic UV Riche - didn't like the texture and green colour, didn't seem to help with redness (although I didn't realise until recently that it contains niacinimide and I always used it after vitamin C which might not have helped)

Just OK:
Kiehls hydro plumping serum - prefer Matrixyl

Still needed:
Keeping an eye out for a day moisturiser, would usually rely on the city block but think I may need one with the Biore

Happy to give away/trade:
I've got lots of Lancôme and Kiehls bits from my Selfridges advent calendar that I probably won't use, will have a rummage and list separately later

If trading, looking for the following:

AuroraPolaris · 02/01/2017 14:41

How annoying that mask is discontinued bo Xmas Angry

AuroraPolaris · 02/01/2017 15:27

The Outnet has an extra 20% promo code valid till tomorrow, I think - HAPPY2017

wiltingfast · 02/01/2017 15:33

Wow, took me all day yesterday to catch up with you lot Smile

Like the ideal of the 2016 likes list

For info, am in my early 40s, skin is normal to oily , I tend to be on the reactive end of the spectrum, esp on my cheeks. Parts of my face are very oil clogged. Thanks to these threads I finally noticed that one side of my nose was pumping out a massive amount of oil which has left part of my cheek, around one nostril and one side of my chin very oil clogged. Shock anyways...

Discovery of the year:
The Ordinary! Esp the Matrixyl
Also acids, esp BHA

Would repurchase:
Matrixyl
LRP Toleriane Fluid
PC 2% BHA
LRP Athelios XL fluid 50+
Clinique TTDO
LRP Dermo Cleanser
Not sure about the TO niacinamide; I think it is slightly strong for me perhaps. This is such a great ingredient however, I will probably buy at least one more bottle and go with diluting it with another serum for application.

Planned purchases:
I want to explore retinoil, esp around the eye area. So TO Retinoid 2% is on my list as is face theory 2% retinoil. I might try the Verso so beloved of Bo either Smile

I should add I bought Hylamide SubQ for under eyes in pure desperation before Xmas and there is an immediate lifting effect. Used morning and night it has improved the area around my eyes by smoothing it out and lifting it a tiny bit. I am only using it since Xmas eve so will review more fully in about a month.

Won't repurchase:
TO HA just dried out my skin.
Clinique Smart Moisturisers don't suit me
Biore Watery Essence

Just OK:
TO niacinamide has prove tricky to use consistently and effectively.

Still needed:
Retinoids!

Happy to give away/trade:
Nothing at the moment really. The HA has already been given to a fellow MNer and my ds has scored the Biore Smile

If trading, looking for the following:
