Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Sorry, that was to Hollin and her body shop Supermarket Sweep.

That cake looks amazing! Vegan, so dairy free too? Perfect.

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 22:45

Hollin she should have known you by then Xmas GrinXmas Grin

Just checking in, I hope everyone's having a lovely Christmas Eve Eve. I'm very jealous of the posters in France.

I've been really enjoying my skincare routine, inspired by this and previous threads. I've never had one before! I've still got old products to work through but the difference it's made to my skin just taking the time out everyday. This is what I'm working with, apart from I've recently bought the Superdrug Simply Hydrating Serum and the Biore Watery Essence Sunscreen - my first 'informed' purchases. I'm still waiting for the sunscreen to arrive though. I am short of cash atm so can't do a full overhaul. I think I'm extremely low budget poster on this thread Grin

AM
Water and face cloth (Going to try replacing with body shop chamomile balm Grin)
Nip and Fab Glycolic Pads (I know people aren't a fan but I do really think they've made my skin a lot more glowy)
Superdrug Simply Hydrating Serum (Great so far)
A very cheap Avon SPF50 for babies Blush (will be replaced by Biore watery essence)

PM
Waterproof Mascara off with sweet almond oil
Superdrug Naturally Radiant Hot Cloth cleanser
Nip and fab pads
Superdrug serum
Sometimes I will pat a bit of the sweet almond oil in if my face feels extra dehydrated.

Also I've been using lanisoh nipple cream (basically just lanolin) on my nose and lips as I've had a cold, and you can't even tell I've been ill. I'd highly recommend it! I've been determined to get through the tube since breastfeeding never worked out.

Products/ingredients I want to add are (mostly on bo's advice) l : TO hyaluronic acid 2% plus B5, one of TO vit C preparations and Paula's Choice BHA 2%

I'm actually just about to order the travel size PC BHA as a Christmas pressie to myself.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank all the posters on these threads for sharing your time and secrets, you're all such a fountain of knowledge and it's been really interesting and exciting to get involved in a new hobby Smile

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 22:46

Yeah it's vegan. The recipe is for quite a small cake, mind you. Make double the amount for normal size tin.

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 23/12/2016 22:50

I'm not jealous of the sinus infection though Flowers

I am jealous of that delicious looking cake. I need someone to make that for me now.

hollinhurst84 · 23/12/2016 22:50

I know! What kind of eejit gives that as a gift?!
Dad still panics when he loses me shopping
Mum "she'll be in the beauty section of selfridges, probably at the perfumes. Or illamasqua"
< both parents laugh as they walk in to find me exactly where she predicted > Blush

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 23/12/2016 22:55

Hollin that would've been my dream as a teenager! I'd still enjoy it now to be fair, my DP got me a body shop advent calendar this year which has bought me a lot of happiness. I love surprise treats.

Dulcimena · 24/12/2016 00:43

Scooby, baby/child sunscreens are usually the first I look at - ime they are effective and tend to have cleaner ingredients lists. I don't know the Avon one though. Good tip on the lansinoh for noses btw, I needed that a few weeks ago!

Bo, yes the steam cream was me. Love it, and the essence from the same range. Fab recs, tyvm Xmas Smile

EnidButton · 24/12/2016 01:19

love lansinoh Scooby. It'd be on my desert island list.

Can anyone recommend eyebrow scissors that don't make the end of the trimmed hair look obviously blunt? I have thick eyebrow hair that seems to sometimes grow long. My brow shape and size looks very similar to Hollin's if that helps. Not skincare related I know but face related and not worthy of its own thread so I thought it was worth a try. I think I overplucked tonight so the rapidbrow has been layered on. Must leave them alone for a while.

Realised there probably no answer to that. But you never know! Grin?

hollinhurst84 · 24/12/2016 01:21

They trim mine with some rounded scissors. I don't do much with mine Grin just pay to have them tinted, threaded and trimmed then use w7 queen of brows gel (benefit gimme brow dupe) on them

EnidButton · 24/12/2016 01:42

I'm handy with some tweezers and the ol' eyebrow powder but I swear some of the hair grows wavy. Confused I have some rounded scissors but it looks too blunt and thick if I use them. They're dark and very thick naturally but I know from looking at my older sisters that if I get carried away plucking, one day they mightn't grow back. Shock So was thinking trimming might be better.

hollinhurst84 · 24/12/2016 01:49

Yeah it could work. Go easy though, I can thread my own eyebrows but trimming I nearly lost half a brow Blush

EnidButton · 24/12/2016 03:48

Oh god, that's definitely something I'd do. Maybe I should hold off on the trimming for now.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 24/12/2016 07:33

bo thank you so much. Star

I will do a proper reply at some point! When I've. Or been up since 5am with a toddler Until then, off to Boots today for LRP products as most easily accessible. Will strip back. And I am most definitely guilty as charged when it comes to buying anything someone recommends/says will help. Xmas Blush
Shame it's taken me so long to learn this lesson
We won't talk about the three Cult beauty boxes of stuff on top of the wardrobe...

Dulcimena · 24/12/2016 10:44

Enid, I just trim mine with small nail scissors - brush them up with an old mascara wand, any hairs that extend beyond the "outline" get snipped off. Repeat, brushing down. I don't think you need to trim much to see a difference or perhaps I am kidding myself Grin I haven't noticed them looking blunt tbh, it just makes for a sharper outline.

Dulcimena · 24/12/2016 10:45

And Hollin I am again impressed by your skills - I'd be utterly terrified of threading my own brows! Images of ripping out eyelashes Xmas Shock

Dulcimena · 24/12/2016 10:47

I do tint my own brows though

Apols for multiple posts

RubyGoat · 24/12/2016 16:24

botemp - thanks for the response to my query. Sorry for the delayed reply, this is the first chance I've had to look on the thread again. (Properly that is... It feels like I've been stuck in a whirlwind of wrapping paper & cranberries recently.) I will buy the Matrixyl in January when I've been paid

hollinhurst84 · 24/12/2016 16:40

Superdrug have a spray specifically for your back, I saw it somewhere... Hang on

hollinhurst84 · 24/12/2016 16:42

Not sure if it's any good but it's under £3
http://britishbeautyblogger.com/article/superdrug-bacne-spray/

make sure you wash your body after hair too so you don't get any traces of conditioner left on your back

NoJimmyProtested · 24/12/2016 16:49

Lego I suffered with bad bacne for years (still have the odd flare up). Saw 3 dermatologists and in the end got it sorted. What it turned out to be was yeast related. An overgrowth of yeast in the gut which was causing skin flushing and body acne. I improved my diet a bit, took daily probiotics, used Head and Shoulders shampoo on it when I showered (not for long, just a light foam for a minute or two then rinse - its got a yeast killing ingredient in it) and it cleared up like nobody's business. Could be worth a try.

Pupsiecola · 24/12/2016 16:58

Have purchased some shower creme, and shampoo and conditioner (planned, because I only brought tiny sample sizes for our family of four). Pharmacy in resort has no LRP! Avene and a couple of brands I've never heard of. Will nip in again tmrw and report back.

Caught up now. I hear ya Yong. Left DH and DSs in the supermarket whilst I went to buy "boring stuff from the chemist".

EnidButton · 24/12/2016 17:12

Reporting back on the Corsx bha. Have used on peeling, SF nose for three nights and it's now smooother than glass and the SF's don't look like black dots anymore. Almost too smooth as you could probably use it as a mirror atm so I'll perhaps go to every other night, but I am impressed. I think I'm starting to see what all the fuss is about acids.

I haven't used it on my actual face yet though. Was reading done reviews last night at it seems to be a very marmite product so I'm a bit scared. Either it'll be a miracle or a disaster. So waiting until after the festivities.

Pupsiecola · 24/12/2016 17:27

Have snuck into bedroom to report back on shampoo and conditioner, because I have to say omg. I have lots and lots of hair. And it's quite unruly. Neither curly nor straight. Tendency to dryness and frizz. This Klorane stuff I bought today is lovely and I've just blow dried it and it is so shiny and smooth!! It is Klorane Ultra Gentle Shampoo with Oat Milk and Klorane Mango Butter conditioner. Apparently the brand has been around for 50 years. No inci on packaging but will try to research later.

Btw I educated by boys earlier re SPF. They called me a nerd lol.
