Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Tiger you probably know that I would suggest switching to P50, right? Xmas Grin
It's truly a miracle product and you only need a few drops 3x a week so lasts ages.

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 10:12

bo dear hope you have a lovely and peaceful holiday! All the best for 2017... and may it also be bountiful in lovely acids, sticky snail goo, colorful Casmara masks, glowing foundations, Stila beautiful palettes, rosy blushes and of course the perfect nude lipstick!!!

Storm, with all things going on my memory is not it’s usual self, but Pupsie is sorting you with the P50W decant iirc. I think it’s a good one to try. Very helpful with the copy/pasting, I have started to keep some files to keep you all separated so you saved me some time Xmas Smile. No plans for a blog (generally not a fan of the pushing products format) but if I find some time I might start archiving some of the things on these threads on a stand alone website that’s easier to search through than the mass amount of text in one or two threads including all my deviating chat.

Wrt the rest of your routine, I think it’s good to step away from the natural stuff for a bit. Also I think you’re going to need to detach the idea that a ‘good’ product comes at a certain price. I think it’s very tempting to follow bloggers and when they claim, ‘this is my favourite cleanser and it’s so worth the extra bit of money’ that it must be a great product for you too where the psychological aspect of the price point actually helps compound that argument. Thing is, it often isn’t, I wouldn’t rec my favourite cleanser to everyone, yes it’s perfect for me but it most certainly won’t be for many. Meanwhile boring and functional LRP Toleriane Dermo will help most because it’s boring and functional.

So things to avoid in your case are the more natural products, you’ve mentioned avoiding Shea (but you have a few products containing them) I assume as it’s clogging so we need to stay away from what I call the solid fats too when it comes to leave on products (like shea, cocoa seed, coconut, etc.).

I definitely think you’d benefit from BHA (The PC 2% liquid, clear or normal version) but since you’re trying out the P50 see that through first. They work well together but I wouldn’t want you trying them both at once.

Routine:

AM.
Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip or TH nourishing oil cleanser (neither are suitable j think) LRP Toleriane Dermo Cleanser
Serozinc
Just started Zelens vitamin D treatment drops ← finish up as it’s a rather pricey product and reevaluate once finished
Skin Owl eye gel ← see Zelens
LRP cicaplast LRP Toleriane Fluid - again boring as can be but for now a steady partner that isn’t likely to cause reaction.
SPF - you can try the Biore Watery Essence, you might also be fine with the LRP Anthelios Fluid (but proceed with caution, reactions to this vary wildly), The Body Shop sunscreen as mentioned upthread is also decent if you can handle fragrance (goes for all of these three).

PM
Body shop chamomile cleansing butter ← you’re alternating this with Clinique TTDO right, wrt to avoiding the natural stuff I’d keep away from the BS CB but if it’s doing no harm keep at it.
Sunday Riley or TH cleanser LRP TDC
Have recently stopped using pixi glow/nil+fab pads due to earlier chat You’ll be trying the P50W here so let’s see how you get on with that a few times a week.
Vitamin E mist from body shop ← ^if this works for you keep at it but I don’t necessarily see a need for it.
Skin owl eye gel
Zelens vitamin D
LRP cicaplast Stick with the LRP Toleriane Fluid for now but if you want something more it’s probably worth looking at the night time Face Theory moisturisers for now.

Occasional treatments:
Oskia exfoliator - if it’s truly occasional and used when in need and it works for you fine.
Body Shop warming clay mask ← does this do anything for you, by the ingredients it just appears to be a bit of clay with a lot of fragrance that heats up Xmas Confused
TH ← ?
May Lindstrom problem solver ← A clay mask with Vit C and charcoal, so far so good if you ignore the price but it also contains a lot of potentially irritating spices, essential oils, etc. how do you react to this?
May Lindstrom blue cocoon ← This contains a lot of shea butter (and other solid fats) and would be more suited to drier skin, I know it’s prohibitively expensive but is it working for you? Are you using this to combat dry patches, which would be more indicative of dehydration than dry skin?

So in short, I want to get you to a point of a most non-irritating baseline routine as possible and then introduce some other actives that would be beneficial to you, like Vit C, Niacinamide, possibly Retinol, etc.

Also if you are experiencing some dryness and it is down to dehydration it would be helpful to incorporate a HA serum in the AM.

How annoying, wilting. It was the LM standard primer and the BM primer that caused the same reaction, wasn't it? Might really be down to the silicones then, will look up the Biore INCI later tonight to confirm. Not a lot of choice out there for silicone free SPF but I'll look them up again.

I should have some recipes too, Enid. My Kitchenaid has been getting rather dusty lately found a bloody dead spider in it the other day Xmas Shock but I use it mostly for bread making and savoury stuff now. I've never found low carb and no sugar a manageable combination, was a dizzy mess that wanted to crawl into bed as soon as possible. Complex carb (and no carb for dinner in summer) and no sugar has been the best one to manage for me.

How bloody rude, yongnian. As much as I love your DH for the compliment of the year Star, does he not understand the importance of your skincare obsession needs? Do you mean the Bioderma waterspray btw? It's SPF30 not 50, but it also happens to be on sale for 50% off at feelunique at the moment wasn't browsing for skincare stuff, honest

Oh yeah tiger definitely P50 Xmas Grin. Though considering if you can handle glycolic well you have a lot more choice than most. I'd still go for the P50.

Ooh I've been curious about cryotherapy, Aurora. How much are they charging? I looked once (while on holiday) and nearly fainted at the prices. I do like saunas and should go more often but how does it compare?

Thanks for all the Christmas well wishes, may you all outshine the Christmas tree in a totally non-oily way Xmas Grin

I have it on good authority de Bijenkorf sale prices will be dropping online at 00.01 on December 26th, Aurora

OP posts:
botemp · 23/12/2016 11:53

Also, wilting don't know if it's allowed on here but can you not sell on the Biore to someone on the thread? Know there are a couple people eyeing it.

OP posts:
yongnian · 23/12/2016 12:24

Oo aurora sounds fascinating, was reading about cryotherapy just recently, yes do keep us posted.
bo to be fair DH was not responsible - it was our lovely well-meaning but wholly unaware of my skin care needs relatives.... Grin how dare they try to give us a lovely time!
He is up at the cabin now helping to prepare it for Christmas Day, whilst I am on daughters-duty...resigning myself to doing some research online and plotting my next assault on the shelves...pictures next time!!
Yes it might have been SPF 30, my eyes were on stalks so not taking it in properly...and to be honest the sun is still strong here, tho temps quite crisp, so 30 wouldn't cut it...will check properly tomorrow...in the meantime I am using a little bioderma 50 handbag stick thing which I got here in summer...quite handy and no white cast...didn't bother with it initially as the packaging cracked and I immediately sulked. But have got over myself and mended it with masking tape.
Watch this space..

littlepinkfizz · 23/12/2016 12:42

Is p50 similar to Liquid Gold? - asked by a novice.. and where can I buy the P50 in U.K. Please?
🎅🏻

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 12:54

Wilting Avene SPF 50 is silicone free
http://www.avene.co.uk/suncare/sunscreens/sunscreens-sensitive-skins/very-high-protection-emulsion-spf50

I used this for years (also the tinted one) until for some reason it gave me spots this spring. It's quite thick in constancy so maybe not something for winter. You could check it out though.
*
Bo* yes I was wondering when the prices would drop... still thinking of that Furla bag which I don't really need and would also like a blazer you can dress up but also wear with jeans etc. Not to mention that elusive perfect cardi. Will wait and see what Santa brings me Xmas Grin

Cryo is really something else. You can't really compare it to any type of sauna or even cold bath. I can write in more detail later as am on phone now and have to go to a party in a bit. Same dilemma heels or no heels
It's 28€ for one time and 98€ per month for an unlimited membership- which means you can come up to three times a day. Then they have some other deals like for 5 or 10 times.

hollinhurst84 · 23/12/2016 13:03

Aurora it's the mizon!

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 13:28

More happy feedback incoming after reading and following these threads from the beginning Smile

I have completely overhauled my routine since first finding the style and beauty section of Mumsnet, I wrote a post and had some good advice and I started changing things and spent a small fortune! I then found this thread and chopped and changed a few things and spent a bit more Wink

Thanks so much to Bo for all of your advice to others which I have applied to myself and the advice you have given me as well.

My skin isn't completely transformed yet but it has hugely improved and I have learnt so much. I've still got products sitting on the shelf waiting for introductions to the routine, oh the joy of sensitive skin, but I'm excited to eventually start using those and see even more change.

I had really bad congestion and blackheads and suffer with cyctic acne at times. After my initial thread I started actually cleansing my skin rather than just using cheap face wipes and using other products which initially helped. I then had residual stubborn blocked pores and blackheads that just wouldn't shift. I found that the PC skin perfecting 2% BHA didn't really do anything for me or make any improvements. I've given PC clear extra strength 2% BHA a try and the difference after a week of using has been amazing. Spots and blackheads have literally dissolved!

I also really like LRP toleraine dermo cleanser and TO Niac and HA. I am going to introduce the Vit C next week and Retinol a few weeks after that.

Anyway- thank you, hopefully I can contribute a bit more to this thread, I'm definitely a bit hooked on skincare now!

hollinhurst84 · 23/12/2016 13:45

Ah mine is the one in the pink tube, the gel
I've stopped using it and no spots so I can only put it down to that

Dulcimena · 23/12/2016 14:06

Littlepink it's quite difficult to buy - I bought it from Libertys, I think Pupsie ordered it from MediSpa by calling them. If you look at the stockists page on their website you can see who's local to you. It's pricey though - £52, but I think you may be able to buy a smaller size to try.

Hollin is that the one they had in TKMaxx? If it is, I think it has a fair few cones, do you have a problem with them? I wasn't tempted due to them tbh. Glad the issues are resolved now though.

Aurora ty for the heads up on the silicone free Avene - I think when I last looked they all had them, or I missed that one, so it's good to know other options. Do you know what it was that your skin didn't like this year though? I think we like similar things so your reactions (are lack of) are good pointers :)

Everyone wishing you all a very merry Christmas and I hope we all wake up with sublime skin on Sunday Xmas Grin. Have to say, I'm so happy I took the plunge and posted in the original thread, after lurking for a while. Everyone's been so friendly and enthusiastic about the subject and there is so much knowledge here! Star Love the geekery, genuinely. Happy Holidays! Wine

hollinhurst84 · 23/12/2016 14:09

I got it off eBay, it's this one (ingredients listed in blog)

So happy I found this thread!
Xmas Smile

botemp · 23/12/2016 16:25

Little pink p50 is similar in the sense that it's a high strength AHA exfoliant but that's where the similarities end. One's glycolic the other lactic acid based and used differently in your routine too.

Those prices don't sound bad at all Aurora. Don't think I'd make 3x a day but nice to know you can Xmas Smile

still looking at my giant wishlist from de Bijenkorf too, not that I need any of it

I'm so happy to hear on your progress raisin! Good to know about the difference you had between the clear and normal BHA version. You too shop, without your feedback I'd never have taken a closer look at the Azelaic and urged others to give it a go too Smile. And without your very specific issues I'd never have found the Benton Steam Cream Dulci at least I hope that was you Xmas Hmm

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 16:34

No I've no idea why the Avene disagreed with me this year Xmas Angry Luckily was already giving the Anessa a go.

So so happy to read more reports about skin improvements yeah!!!! StarStarStarStar

bo yeah that price is not so bad certainly if one has a chronic condition. I'm certainly not going three times a day, just the one, and they only close on the 25th.

wiltingfast · 23/12/2016 16:59

Thanks aurora, will check out the avene spf. Must go back and examine the others Bo wanted tested as well.

have just realised despite all my purchasing I
Have
Forgotten
To buy my poor dh a present Xmas Sad

Going have to go back to the damn shops tomorrow and sort that out...

EnidButton · 23/12/2016 19:18

Just saying my Space Nk package arrived today. Micro peel and avocado eye cream. Nice green glass bottle for the micro peel. I do like good packaging etc. Helena Rubinstein was so right. Xmas Grin

Sample of some living proof hair pre shampoo stuff, beauty blender soap and celestial black diamond eye cream. Ingredients don't look as fabulous as the name but I'll give it a whirl.

Hope you're all having a good almost Christmas Eve.

yongnian · 23/12/2016 22:13

Ok, so....The Shelves....

bo there appears to be a 50 and a 30 of the bioderma spray....I will be purchasing at some point...
Not the best photos....I now have infected sinuses...so was feeling rubbish...this did mean I had actual non-skincare related need of a pharmacist earlier....that was not what I had in mind for pharmacies visits though.....Nonetheless, here's some taster pics...
Demonstrating considerable restraint I feel, and nothing to do with feeling like hell and wanting desperately to get back home I merely purchased some Topicreme 10% urea body cream for severely dry/excema prone skin...I have none and my body skin has reverted to its true lizardy propensities at lightening speed, so...plus it was 20% off...plus I'm sick of buying presents for everyone else now. I've used similar by them before and it's a really good make for atopic skin I find. I also like their cicaplast. I also bought a sheet mask...for medicinal purposes for the old sinuses of course....
Pleased to see local supermarket is now stocking biguine make up, tried some last year and liked..eyeing up their blushes....

😍 Now that's what I call a proper amount of stock. Not the piddling half an aisle out fairly large Boots has. Do they do push along shopping carts or do you have to manage with six one hand held basket?

EnidButton · 23/12/2016 22:36

Aurora Gave just seen your app post and downloading it now, thank you.

Bo Yes I need carbs (and lots of fats) because of the ME/Pots. I'm scandalised at the dead spider in your poor neglected kitchen aid though. Shock Sacrilege!

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 22:37

Glad to hear Bioderma added an SPF50 version. When I bought it last April there was only SPF30.
I spot the Klorane hair SPF I bought last summer Xmas Grin
.

hollinhurst84 · 23/12/2016 22:39

Enid Grin that reminds me of my birthday one year as a teenager. Mum gave me 5 minutes in the body shop as a gift. I think she imagined I would gently peruse the shelves, pick up a few treasured items and be happy. I literally put my arm on each shelf and swept it into a basket then repeated. She's never offered that present again funnily Grin despite me asking her if we could do it in selfridges beauty dept

AuroraPolaris · 23/12/2016 22:42

This is the cake I was referring to - it's amazing. Her chocolate recipe is also great.
