Thread 1

Thread 2

For those who are taking a peek and wondering whether thread 1and 2 are worth reading we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients for our particular needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Xmas Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Xmas Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

If you want help, have read through the previous threads, but if you still have questions use the following form to make life easier on us. We generally answer up to two people a day on a first come first served basis. Not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

That's so lovely to read, goatkid I'm so happy it's all working out for you! Merry Christmas to you too! As Pupsie said, was there a specific reason that I can't remember now that means you use the Vit C at night?

Welcome, Tiger. Was also going to suggest looking at TO Caffeine for the puffiness.

Essentially there is nothing that can be done about dark circles as such but there are actives out there that help with their appearance by thickening the skin and stimulating collagen production making the darkness less prominent and restore a bit of volume. You'll want Vit C and Retinol for this (used together or alternately in your routine though Vit C does boost the Retinol so together is a good strategy but a product containing both not preferred) and it is best to use products formulated specifically for the eye area as we're talking actives in a delicate area. I've used the Kiehl's Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate with 10,5% Vit C (which is a good amount for the eye area, anything over 10% is effective and anything more may be a bit much in the eye area) but it is in a silicone base. I believe Caudalie do a C eye cream too but not sure on % and efficacy. I really need to research a few other alternatives for this, if they're even out there. For Retinol there's the LRP Redermic Eye, Verso Super Eye Serum, etc.

Thanks bo I won't bother with that pai mask then!
Do you think I would respond well to the p50 u mention a lot or the Paula's choice 2% liquid?? (Used only on forehead nose and chin) to help with the congestion/filaments and oil due to dehydration??

botemp · 21/12/2016 09:38

Pupsie, also just remembered, how could you forget to mention your coloured Darphin serum in your overview list Shock

OP posts:
botemp · 21/12/2016 09:40

Jo a big fat no on both fronts. They are strong acids and really not to be used on compromised skin.

tigerdog · 21/12/2016 09:46

Thank you dulcimena, and it's not expensive either! Might have to poke around to see what else I can order.

tigerdog · 21/12/2016 09:49

Cross post - thank you too bo, will explore those other options.

Pupsiecola · 21/12/2016 10:02

Ah yes, how could I have forgotten. I should have taken my laptop to my bedroom and done my overview of products surrounded by them! Gosh, I have tried a lot lol. I think I may do a no-purchases first week of January Xmas Grin. I wonder what the ski resort pharmacy will tempt me with next week Xmas Blush.

I spent 6 hours cleaning last night. I slept far better than I have over the last few months, last night. I think just because the stress levels have dropped considerably.

mintmagnummm · 21/12/2016 10:21

Oh bo you spoil all my fun Xmas Wink
Ok I will reluctantly be a good girl HaloXmas Sad

goatkid · 21/12/2016 10:30

No, no particular reason at all. I think I tested a little on my hand, felt the powdery texture and thought, this won't be good under makeup so night time it is. So that's what I did. I have switched to AM the past couple of days though, it had to happen I suppose as DP is really not impressed with the yellow cases Blush so will continue doing this this way around I think!

mintmagnummm · 21/12/2016 13:09

Does anyone else find that their skin feels irritated and parched in shopping centres or places where it's hot (central heating etc)

wiltingfast · 21/12/2016 14:01

Yes mint ! Definitely.

Can I ask how do other people structure their routine? Have recently purchased a sample of PC's BHA and really like it. But not sure if I should use it the same time I use niacinamide? Does the BHA render the niacinamide redundant for now?

But then I read of all that niacinamide can do for your skin and I want to keep it! But it does seem (I hate to admit it) mildly irritating for me. I get a mild flush when I use it in my routine. Less so I think if I use it separately (ie before I go to bed).

Then I am wondering is it ok to put some of these serums on together? Have been putting drops of matrixyl and the hylamide on my hand and putting them on my face together. Is this ok or will it dilute the effects of the products?

The good news is I think my skin barrier is slowly improving. The surface doesn't look so fragile, skin looks denser, pores tighter; I think possibly even the overall redness has reduced Smile . I still feel it is dehydrated but less so with the addition of the hylamide. (Thank you Bo !)

My nose and chin are actually quite congested however, hence the BHA purchase. I'd say if I could manage to clear the oily congestion from there, my skin might even be "normal"!

This is my current tentative routine...

AM
Flannel wash with dermo cleanser
TO niacinamide
Hylamide SubQ serum
Aqualia serum
LRP toleriane fluid
(Don't shoot me, have purchased SPF too Grin )
Make up etc

PM
Double flannel wash with TTDO and dermo cleanser
BHA/AHA
TO Matrixyl
Hylamide SubQ serum
Aqualia serum
LRP toleriane fluid

Pupsiecola · 21/12/2016 14:14

Guess what I just found in TX Maxx!!

yongnian · 21/12/2016 14:15

Thank you one and all for the safe journey wishes! We have arrived...the journey was not without incident...a poor woman seated next to me had a most unfortunate illness-related accident and eventually had to leave the plane. She was very distressed. Plane was delayed an hour as a result. Sadly, some fellow passengers were less than kind about the whole thing (even before the delay), which was a bit sad in the supposed season of goodwill...or indeed, any time.
So I passed one of my Meccas en route (the supermarché which could technically be a hypermarché) complete with parapharmarcie where I do a lot of my browsing whilst pretending to buy food for the family
Prob wont slouch over there for a bit or maybe even tomorrow but yes, reports will start filtering through. I've made a list....for example, conveniently I've run out of cotton wool....and I actually don't have a small water spray...so you get the picture...
Skin is looking a little worse for wear for the travel...will have to spend extra money nursing it back to health....

mintmagnummm · 21/12/2016 16:15

wilting I'm sorry I can't answer all your questions but one thing is screaming out at me.....DROP THE AQUALIA!

hollinhurst84 · 21/12/2016 16:34

Ooh my ordinary hydrating factors thing has arrived. Tried a bit on my hand and it feels nice, has a slip to it but not silicone feeling

littlepinkfizz · 21/12/2016 16:54

Hi...
Fab thread!

46
Am. Pai moisturiser
Urban decay All nighter foundation
Pm. Emma Hardie cleansing balm with warm flannel
Pai moisturiser

That's it.

Concerns:-

Over past year area under my nose is becoming more red. Tiny tiny thread veins but it makes me look like Rudolph together with my nose which gets red with temperature extremes ...I have mild Reynauds . I have tried green concealers but no real difference.

Don't want to go to GP as they will probably chase me.

littlepinkfizz · 21/12/2016 16:55

Oh and money wise... I'll spend money if it works .just sick of claims from companies promising everything.

SheStoodInTheStorm · 21/12/2016 17:06

Ah thanks @pupsiecola that's very kind. I will get the laptop out and PM you later! Though I imagine it'll be the other side of Christmas now.
I need a few hours to catch up properly!!

Dulcimena · 21/12/2016 19:34

The una Brennan rose mask, Pupsie???

GrendelsAunty · 21/12/2016 20:19

Can you please comment on my skincare routine?

Skin type: - dehydrated, rosy cheeks, fair skin

Approx age (range): 43

Primary skin concern: dehydrated, makeup 'dissapears' after a few hours

Routine :

AM : just water in shower, not using toner atm, ordinary buffet, ordinary hyaluronic acid, dermalogica sensitive moisturiser, clarins flash balm, clarins foundation

PM : cheapy garnier make-up remover, no toner, ordinary retinoid, ordinary hyaluronic acid, dermalogica moisturiser

Makeup : medium - but all gone by mid-afternoon :-(

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results: dermalogica toner brought me out in a rash on my eyelids, lrp didn;t do anything for me

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant: I know I don't drink enough water; I just don't like the stuff

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: will spend £20 or £30 if it works miracles

I specifically want help with getting makeup to stay in place for longer

thanks

Dulcimena · 21/12/2016 20:32

Hi Grendel and welcome :). Just to clarify, you're not using a cleanser at all, or SPF? Is that correct?

Dulcimena · 21/12/2016 20:35

Little pink, similar qs as above really, no morning cleanse or SPF? Xmas Confused

Dulcimena · 21/12/2016 20:36

Oooh hollin I'm quite intrigued by that one! Will await further updates :)

littlepinkfizz · 21/12/2016 21:24

I just rinse off with water in the morning in the shower and no,don't use an SPF.

botemp · 21/12/2016 21:27

wilting, ok I get that you’re dehydrated but you’re loading up on a lot of different serums that do the same thing. Pick one or alternate. Hylamide, Aqualia and TO Matrixyl all heavy in the hydration (and anti-ageing) department so one of those is probably better than all three at once. The science is a bit fuzzy on this but some suggest that too much HA actually leads to further dehydration due to osmosis.

Niacinamide and BHA do similar things but also different things again and crucially work differently so perfectly fine to use together even within the same routine. The only thing to possibly be concerned about is using together is Niacinamide and Vitamin C in the same routine.

About the Niacinamide flush, I know when people take it orally as a supplement it can happen that some people convert it quicker to Niacin than most and that it is considered harmless. Are there any lingering effects or any impact on the skin? If you want to continue using it consider buffering (mixing) it with one of the other serums (provided none contain a Vit C form).

Pupsie, it'd better be the Una B mask because if you've just bought out everything K-Beauty at TKMaxx just remember I know where you live now and I will organise an intervention Xmas Grin.

Glad to hear you and the family arrived safely yongnian. I had that once with a friend, fainted and lost consciousness during the flight had to immediately be taken to hospital with an emergency landing, people are less than kind about the inconvenience in those situations unfortunately.

The Rene Furterer Carthame shampoo sample is actually quite good for anyone who wants volume from a shampoo, I'm personally never a big fan of the way that works out on the ends with me if I let it dry naturally but with a blowdryer it's a good combo. A quick google informed me their FR 80 Concentrated Serum (against hair loss) and the Forticea shampoo (for thinning hair) are their popular products and that has to be the weirdest shampoo I've come across in quite awhile, it has little bubbles that burst like that Guerlain primer.

littlepinkfizz, why won't you see your GP? Trust me I can be just as annoying in the chasing and lecturing department, just ask jo/mintmagnumm. Also it's hard to give information without a full view wrt skin type, etc. hence the form, and what Dulci asked.
