Oh Jesus! I have to wear granny shoes!!

I have problems with my feet.

Neuromas, fat pad atrophy, odd flat, broad built, shallow feet with low ankles, a penguin waddle with sticky out feet, hammer toes, bunions and plantar fasciitis.

I have recently had an injection around a nerve and the consultant recommended a particular padded 'sleeve' to wear over the foot to pad the balls/metatarsals of my feet.

They work.

However, the extra padding around the widest part of the feet, means that suddenly, even my beloved DMs are too narrow.

Yesterday, was a screaming nightmare. I had to go to London, come back up to the Midlands and go on to a GCSE Maths class.

I was in agony from my Jules DMs, changed into a pair of trainers and was still having to take off the trainers in class as they were killing me and I couldn't concentrate.

External and internal angles of polygons, if you're interested.

I've got one pair of shoes that don't hurt. A pair of bright red Cosyfeet lace ups. They are the clumpiest shoes you've ever seen. But they don't leave me wondering whether amputation is a reasonable option.

I've just gone online and searched for extra wide shoes for orthotics and felt like crying.

The vast majority were velcro fastening and in the kind of grandma styles that your grandma would not wear.

I had to order another pair of clumpy lace ups and at fucking £73, it was galling.

I'm 48 ffs. Not 98!! Angry [cry] [tantrum] I'd stamp my foot about now but it would hurt too much.

Does anyone have any ideas about relatively 'young', suitable shoes for someone like me?

Please? Sad

Clarks
Pavers
Ecco
Evans
Hotter ( no idea why these are marketed as wide fit as they aren't ime compared to Clarks)
Sketchers
Brantana

Clarks wide fit are too wide even for my ridiculous feet. I've also got Merrell boots that are quite wide and blissfully cushioned. I had a neuroma removed in October and my Merrells are the only things I can get my swollen foot into at the moment - thank goodness it's not high summer as they're very definitely winter boots!

Judydreamsofhorses · 07/12/2016 15:21

I have wide, small feet, and some of the Clarks wide fit are too narrow for me! I have had recent success with Ecco, funnily enough - I'd never even been in there before but spotted these in the window:

I love them so much I have asked for the snakeskin pair for Christmas. I also have black Adidas Stan Smiths which are really comfy and have a very wide toe part.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 15:22

Oh just remember Moshulu.

Gingernaut · 07/12/2016 15:28

Clarks E fitting shoes are too narrow.

Next - nope.

I've never heard of Pavers. Who sells those?

RusholmeRuffian · 07/12/2016 15:31

Clarks Funny Dream and Wallabees are very wide and very comfortable.

Minniemagoo · 07/12/2016 15:32

I had a problem with my right foot last year and needed wider shoes, the selection is crap. I ended up buying mens boots and runners as they seem to make them wider.

Gingernaut · 07/12/2016 15:37

I found Pavers. Just a velcro and clumpy looking as the rest, but hey, £24.99. Can't argue with a bargain. Sad

I think sketchers are your friend here, my go walks are the most comfortable things I have ever put on my wide feet. They also come in a range of styles and colours.

SenseiWoo · 07/12/2016 15:50

Would Hotter be any good? The loafers are quaite naice.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 07/12/2016 15:51

simply be do shoes in a range of wide fitting, up to EEE.

kshaw · 07/12/2016 15:52

So I have really wide calves compared to ankles and the online catalogue jdwilliams (it's mainly a plus size shop) does different widths and calf sizes-Some of them are hideous but they do get some nice ones in too - my winter boots are always from there and they have good range of widths

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 15:53

Pavers has a huge range and not all clumpy.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 15:54

Why have you picked the most hideous pair of Ecco shoes? There's loads that are great Confused

ShowMeTheElf · 07/12/2016 15:58

E fitting is Clarks wide OP, have you tried the EE extra wide?
Crocs (I know I know but you'll look like a vegan instead of a pensioner....depending which bothers you more).

Gingernaut · 07/12/2016 15:59

Go on. Let's face it.

Anything tha has tgat bar across the top and is described as "superbly adjustable" is probably velcro, isn't it?

Thanks for all your suggestions so far.

Will look into them all later.

Yoarchie · 07/12/2016 16:01

If your feet are size 7+ you could probably get men's shoes as they will come wider.

StillSmallVoice · 07/12/2016 16:01

I've had to wear granny shoes since I was in my 20s. Ecco are the only reliably comfortable shoes for me, except for Birkenstock, which I wear all summer long.

Believe me, they have improved enormously in recent years.

TinaBacon · 07/12/2016 16:04

Another suggestion of Evans, they do EEE with.

Gingernaut · 07/12/2016 16:05

Size 4. With the extra wide fitting, they look almost square...Blush

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 07/12/2016 16:10

Just look at wide fit ranges. Asos and new look so wide fit and big range of styles.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 16:15

I've just googled Jules DM's,hate to break it to you but you're wearing clumpy shoes alreadyWink

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/12/2016 17:33

I wear hotter stream to work but I'm a podiatrist so it's ok. You can take the insoles out of them for more room & put a thin layer of poron or plasterzote in.

Comfiest shoes ever.
