Oh Jesus! I have to wear granny shoes!!

I have problems with my feet.

Neuromas, fat pad atrophy, odd flat, broad built, shallow feet with low ankles, a penguin waddle with sticky out feet, hammer toes, bunions and plantar fasciitis.

I have recently had an injection around a nerve and the consultant recommended a particular padded 'sleeve' to wear over the foot to pad the balls/metatarsals of my feet.

They work.

However, the extra padding around the widest part of the feet, means that suddenly, even my beloved DMs are too narrow.

Yesterday, was a screaming nightmare. I had to go to London, come back up to the Midlands and go on to a GCSE Maths class.

I was in agony from my Jules DMs, changed into a pair of trainers and was still having to take off the trainers in class as they were killing me and I couldn't concentrate.

External and internal angles of polygons, if you're interested.

I've got one pair of shoes that don't hurt. A pair of bright red Cosyfeet lace ups. They are the clumpiest shoes you've ever seen. But they don't leave me wondering whether amputation is a reasonable option.

I've just gone online and searched for extra wide shoes for orthotics and felt like crying.

The vast majority were velcro fastening and in the kind of grandma styles that your grandma would not wear.

I had to order another pair of clumpy lace ups and at fucking £73, it was galling.

I'm 48 ffs. Not 98!! Angry [cry] [tantrum] I'd stamp my foot about now but it would hurt too much.

Does anyone have any ideas about relatively 'young', suitable shoes for someone like me?

Please? Sad

? Is superfluous but iPad obviously thinks not.

FurryDogMother · 08/12/2016 09:41

Yours Clothing does a range of footwear up to EEE fitting.

DeadZed · 08/12/2016 09:44

How about looking for a company that makes shoes to fit your foot as a previous poster suggested. They can cost a lot of money but you will get something that fits and lasts.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 08/12/2016 09:44

Sorry, I can't help at all I'm afraid, but can I ask what the padding is? My mother has the same (similar?) problem with you wtr the balls of her feel and has been trying to find some padding which actually helps. She'd love you forever if you could recommend something that does, actually, reduce the pain.

If you are after casual winter shoes this is what I've been wearing. This is my fourth winter, and since I can wear jeans to work, I pretty much am wearing them every day Oct-April.

The consultant gave me a catalogue called SimplyFeet.

The 'sleeves' are item codes 042010 and 042011

There are clumpy shoes and other gel based bits and bobs galore.

The gel pads are quite thick and although it's not brilliant, I can walk without limping.

I took delivery of a pair of Skechers Shape Ups. Liv So Spacey style.

Not the 'standard' rocker bottom soles but a strange split tread which does the same thing.

Weirdly comfy but still bunion issues.

I may have to have the orthotic in the left shoe, the gel metatarsal protector on the right and hammer toe sleeves on both feet.

I'll try them tonight.

But your existing shoes are clumpy already?

Oh Jesus! I have to wear granny shoes!!
EnidButton · 08/12/2016 14:30

Hope you find something. Just was a bit surprised when I googled the shoes you already have.

Gingernaut · 08/12/2016 15:00

Mine are black.

I quite like them.......Sad

I have wide feet anyway... as does my mum.

She has some bits that fit in her shoes meaning they need to be slightly wider than she'd usual buy. (and has to buy wide fitting generally anyway)

Marisota (and simply be etc) do footwear in EEE width fitting and in even EEEEE fitting (though they may well be granny shoes).

some nice ones too, not too clumpy granny

TimeIhadaNameChange · 08/12/2016 15:35

Thanks Gingernaut - have passed the links on to her.

TheClacksAreDown · 08/12/2016 15:44

At a size 4 you would be at the top of kid's ranges. Some brands do a wide variety of fits. Appreciate it might not be where you'd like to start but might be worth a look as another option maybe.

Gingernaut · 10/12/2016 13:23

Hotter messaged me to say my Extra Wide Fit shoes were in store.

So here I am at Merry Hell Hill and I've had to get a refund.

I couldn't get my feet into the shoes at all. Sad Sad Sad

There are two styles which come in the EEE fitting and they're even worse than the ones I ordered.

Fuck. Sad Angry

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 10/12/2016 13:26

Tbh Hotter shows aren't wide at all ime. Have you tried the wide fits in Evans? Clarks?

Gingernaut · 10/12/2016 13:33

Clarks are similar to Hotter. I've had trouble with my bunion from them for some years.

Have a pair of Evans trainers on order, a pair of Pavers and ComfyFeet.

I just feel weirdly 'crushed' that I can't fit into EXF Hotters.

Pretty soon it'll be those odd Roman sandals which open up, you put your feet into them and then you lace around them.

Sad

ScoobyDoosTinklyLaugh · 10/12/2016 13:42

I like those DM's!

I don't think previous poster understand just how clumpy orthodontic shoes are.

I'd just buy something hideous and cheap from pavers and also buy the coolest clothes in the world to counteract the ugly shoes.

Gingernaut · 10/12/2016 13:57

Sitting in Clarks.

They go up to a maximum of EE and they killed ma.

The bunion started to bulge out before I tried standing up.

Sad

On the other hand, an elderly woman with a walking frame just told me she liked my scarlet lace up Cosyfeet....

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/12/2016 14:02

Yours Clothing do wide fit (EEE) shoes.

Gingernaut · 10/12/2016 14:09

I'm in Simply Be.

Ballet flats (aggravate the plantar fasciitis), heels (just, no) and boots (ankles).

And one pair of weird smelling patent loafers with fake suede and tassels.

4EEE.

They fit and they're black. Fuck it. Beggars can't be choosers.

Bejazzled · 10/12/2016 14:10

Google Gabor Wide Fit - never going to be twinkle toes but not too bad.
Also very expensive but also good are the horribly named Teddy and Muffy where you choose a style and select the appropraite width.

Gingernaut · 10/12/2016 14:20

I can smell these plastic horrors in the bag.

A trip to Lush might be in order...Sad

Welcome to my hell. Size 5 feet with genetic wide 6E width. Yep duck feet. No-one does that size shoe unless it's ortho.

The only high street store that may have shoes that fit (and I need to get size 6) is Evans but it's hit and miss. I do manage ro find heels here. Nearly cried in relief and bought different colours of same style.

Sandpiper can get some nice among clumpt but you pay £70 a pair. No heels though.

There's another site which has better styles. Name escapes me. I'll post when I remember.

Try and take your mind off the shoes with a lovely handbag.

Branleuse · 10/12/2016 14:39

have you tried art shoes. Theyre really wide and comfy
