Oh Jesus! I have to wear granny shoes!!

I have problems with my feet.

Neuromas, fat pad atrophy, odd flat, broad built, shallow feet with low ankles, a penguin waddle with sticky out feet, hammer toes, bunions and plantar fasciitis.

I have recently had an injection around a nerve and the consultant recommended a particular padded 'sleeve' to wear over the foot to pad the balls/metatarsals of my feet.

They work.

However, the extra padding around the widest part of the feet, means that suddenly, even my beloved DMs are too narrow.

Yesterday, was a screaming nightmare. I had to go to London, come back up to the Midlands and go on to a GCSE Maths class.

I was in agony from my Jules DMs, changed into a pair of trainers and was still having to take off the trainers in class as they were killing me and I couldn't concentrate.

External and internal angles of polygons, if you're interested.

I've got one pair of shoes that don't hurt. A pair of bright red Cosyfeet lace ups. They are the clumpiest shoes you've ever seen. But they don't leave me wondering whether amputation is a reasonable option.

I've just gone online and searched for extra wide shoes for orthotics and felt like crying.

The vast majority were velcro fastening and in the kind of grandma styles that your grandma would not wear.

I had to order another pair of clumpy lace ups and at fucking £73, it was galling.

I'm 48 ffs. Not 98!! Angry [cry] [tantrum] I'd stamp my foot about now but it would hurt too much.

Does anyone have any ideas about relatively 'young', suitable shoes for someone like me?

Please? Sad

fluffy are hotter stream suitable to put orthotics in? I've just been given some but am struggling to find a pair of shoes for work that will hit them in

Fluffycloudland77 · 07/12/2016 18:05

Yes, perfect.

BusterGonad · 07/12/2016 18:16

ShowMeTheElf crocs....vegan instead of pensioner....omg I can't stop laughing!
OP size 4 with the extra wide fitting, they'd look almost square.

SingaSong12 · 07/12/2016 18:16

I feel like I'm buying slippers without any choice. I need something that will hold my foot in place, Velcro is fine but they all seem to be made of velour style with little flowers or stars. I'm sure someone likes them, just not me. Maybe I'm just being ageist but I I feel they are for someone much older (40s).

SingaSong12 · 07/12/2016 18:17

Meant I'm in my 40s

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 19:32

There's loads of slippers that aren't Velcro and velour on Clarks website.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 19:33

Moshulu slippers are good too.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/12/2016 19:34

www.moshulu.co.uk/m/ladies/slippers/alaska_2_navy.htm

Any good?

Helenluvsrob · 07/12/2016 19:36

Have you tried fitflop boots ? They saved my wonky injected joint ( mid foot, blood hurt, never again!). It was that it hard orthotics - ugh

user1471457927 · 07/12/2016 19:36

Try Wider Fit Shoes. They actually look quite fashionable and are really comfortable

SealSong · 07/12/2016 19:39

Keen shoes are wide fitting, and can take an orthotic if needed.

theaccidentaleconomist · 07/12/2016 19:59

I would also recommend widerfitshoes.co.uk. Their 4E fitting is the same width as an EE but with extra depth to accommodate orthotics. They are somewhat less hideous than Cosyfeet and if you can get away with the 4E fitting will look far less clumpy.

Gingernaut · 07/12/2016 20:06

Boots aren't really an option.

With the low ankle 'thing', boots, basketball sneakers and certain shoe styles just rip them to shreds.

Slip ons tend to slide up and down the heels causing blisters and Fitflops and Crocs have left my toes and forefeet blistered.

Some very expensive lessons have had ro be learned over the years.

God. I sound like such a princess. Blush

birkenstock?

Makinglists · 07/12/2016 20:13

Have a look at conker shoes. They are made to fit your foot and you can specify colours etc. They are not cheap but they can be re-soled at least twice I think. I've a pair of bright purple ones that I bought in 1993 and they are still going strong. They're not elegant but can be quite funky/quirky

SenseiWoo · 07/12/2016 21:01

Just make a big badge that says "Yeah, the shoes. Foot issues, don't ask".

IJustLostTheGame · 08/12/2016 08:16

I was going to suggest a badge too!
'If you judge me by my shit shoes you're a twat'
Or you can get the shit shoes and spray paint them.....

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/12/2016 08:42

It's not like having to wear sensible shoes in the 80's when everyone was cramming their feet into Lady Di pointed pumps and giving themselves bunions. It's perfectly acceptable to wear comfy, flat shoes these days, no one bats an eyelid, honestly.

Gingernaut · 08/12/2016 08:50

I've got a lovverly Episode dress that will have to be worn with a pair of lace ups.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Jules clumpy? How very dare you! Angry Wink

I admit it's hard for formal occasions but you just have to hunt a bit

daisydaisychain · 08/12/2016 08:53

I like these: www.schuh.co.uk/womens/red-or-dead-leather-jade-black-flat-shoes/1373307020/

Also hush puppy usually have comfy Mary Janes.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/12/2016 08:58

Hotter extra wide (EE equivalent)

www.hotter.com/gb/en/viewallwomens?beginIndex=0&pageSize=39&facet=ads_f31001_ntk_cs:%22Extra%20Wide%20Fit%22

They are very good with returns/refunds too.

hollyisalovelyname · 08/12/2016 09:03

I feel your pain OP.
My 3rd and 4th toes are long so shoes are always too narrow at the toes for me and hurt as I then get corns.
Any suggestions please Mumsnetters ?
Square toed are probably best for me.
And like you OP the 'fat pad' under my foot burns like hell in heels. There is no fat there anymore only callouses Sad
I am ashamed of my under soles and envy people with nice feet.

ICJump · 08/12/2016 09:08

I have wide feet can't fit in sketchers or Ecco.

But I wondered if you have seen frankie 4s. frankie4.com.au/shop.html?p=4 like them and I have wide fat feet and I fit in them.

I have a pair of jonnys sanders which are wide and I always get complements in them www.amazon.co.uk/Shoes-Jonnys-Bags/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A1769609031%2Cp_4%3AJonny's

And finally I have those krotens in pink in the midst of foot pain swelling heat these were the only thing I could get my foot into www.thewalkingcompany.com.au/shop/travelwalker-red

smilingmind · 08/12/2016 09:15

If you like DMs look at Alegria shoes. They are wide, with a slight rocker sole, built in foot support and very comfortable.
Quite expensive but cheaper on eBay and they last.
I also have foot problems and have lived in mine for several years. They look very little worn.
I also found with an orthotic most of my shoes, including my DMs, didn't fit. I bought a shoe stretcher from Amazon which was amazing. Used slowly and tightening a little bit made them a whole size bigger.
