I can't seem to find anywhere I can get it over the counter so I can try it out! Will it suit me? I have olive skin, dark eyes, and mid-brown hair - I'm concerned it has blue undertones and mine are yellow. I usually wear orangey shades of red.

Also, if I should take the plunge, can anyone recommend a lip liner - preferably one that comes with a lip brush?

I've just bought bloody Mary and I love it in the tube but it looks tarty on me. And not in a good way. Gutted.

Sometimes you can warm up to lipsticks. A colour that seems shocking at first can be one you get used to. Don't give up just yet!

Thanks lotta. Lipstick coach!

Lottapianos · 06/12/2016 08:39

Is that an actual thing? Coz that sounds like my dream job Wink

sarahnova69 · 06/12/2016 09:33

Lotta I'm quite tempted to send you a pic and you can tell me exactly what to buy... Grin

I do want to get the nice stuff, just want to make sure I suit the colours first.

Bless you Smile I'm no expert, I just know that I have tried on some colours in the past that looked shocking at first, but I got used to them and really quite liked them after a while. Some on the other hand are an immediate 'no!'

I was very excited to read about Ruby woo and just had to buy one ( all I could afford in Macy's!) I was so disappointed , as like others I found it so so dry. I really like Maybelline 24 hour stay in Cherry Pie, very red and stays put even overnight if you don't remove it. However, if you make a mistake putting it on it is really hard to correct as it is almost like gloss painting your lips. Not at all drying though.

So I hit the MAC store at Westfield and walked away with both Lady Danger and Russian Red. I LOVE THEM BOTH. Lady Danger is zingy and bright, Russian Red on me is vampy and super flattering. I got lipliners to match both from NYX.

I also just got given a Lipstick Queen mini in Medieval for Christmas and it's lovely - a sheer, winey red which is very flattering and wearable, although it doesn't have the staying power of a true 'lipstick'. It's nice and soft though.

If you need a red lipstick that has flattering shades and is very comfortable to wear, try Yves Rocher Grand Rouges. The entire brand had fallen off my radar but French girls know a thing or two about red lipstick and these are supremely wearable. Even after a meal, the fade is pretty and still flattering.

I think (don't quote me) that L'Oréal Blakes red is a dupe for Ruby Woo! That's what I've heard anyway!

Someone mentioned NYX, I have some of their matte lipsticks and think they're brilliant, (none of them are red though, so I can't pass comment on them.) But the colours I do have are amazing.
