I really like Neostrata Sheer Physical Protection. I've just ordered some EltaMD which I've not tried before. I'm skiing at in a few weeks and hope it will be good for that.

Ehm... I see grey as grey yongnian Confused. I can discern between them very well though, undertones, etc. can advise which colour to paint every room in a house (in situ) and make it appear to be the same colour throughout, if you use the actual same colour everywhere due to the light it would look different per room. Painter/decorators hate me. You're on your own with the bonkers purchasing though, I take absolutely no responsibility Grin.

Speaking of, totally random unrestrained purchases, was in tkmaxx this afternoon and picked up the Una Brennan Rose Mask, don't know how that happened as I'm not much of an impulse buyer and have no need for a mask but I wondered how it would compare to the Sisley Black Rose mask and it was really cheap and it's absolutely lovely. A great hydrator/moisturiser for sensitive skin in these colder days and smells lovely of rose too. Vintner's Daughter is bloody lovely too but I will resist any ranting and raving till morning The Joik candles were tiny, Aurora, but the Damascus Rose one is lovely, far nicer than the Persian Rose one from Pacifica that was also on offer but more expensive. Also got some NEOM ones from tkmaxx which I absolutely adore too.

Enid, I find the best treatment is neem oil for cuticles and a rich moisturiser (Weleda skin food is good but it has citrus so probably not the best if there are open wounds, something with Linalool would work well, do Lanolips not have a hand product?) then get your marigolds (?) and either do the dishes or simply submerge in warm/hot water, then moisturise again when its sunken in. It's also handy to just have a hand cream by your washing up liquid and use before doing any dishes by hand.

Is it around freezing temps in the UK too, Pupsie? My oil production speeds up a bit in response, so can get shinier in the T-zone since my routine for winter is geared for added oils. Otherwise evaluate the frequency of acid use and Retinol. You have introduced quite a lot over the past few weeks. And yes, eye creams at night can cause puffiness, not as a rule but with some people it happens.

Storm, I have some additional questions.

How are you with cultured dairy (so cheese, yoghurt, etc.) I know we discussed P50 before for you (I think) but that's lactic acid based, as in derived from milk so am wondering how sensible that is. Ever tried SR Good Genes by any chance? Have we talked BHA yet?

Your bad results with REN and Liz Earle make me wonder how you get on with essential oils, do you have issues with other 'natural'/organic skincare products or was it specifically those two brands? I'm thinking the Susanne Kaufmann Gel Cleanser might suit you well but it's full of alpine herb extracts.

Which LRP Cicaplast are you using specifically and with what purpose, is your skin very damaged at the moment? Since your routine is comprised of a lot of products currently can you indicate which ones you think are working for you/would RP and what you question/wouldn't RP. Also, have you tried any SPF products in the past?

JDSTER, I'll answer you tomorrow.

Rastel38, by ZO skincare are you referring to Obagi?

whyistherumgone Dr. Sam Bunting's videos for The Telegraph (ongoing, 'Science of Skincare') are very helpful. Some are linked on the thread, they're a bit slow at uploading them to youtube but there's a partial playlist available but it's good to read the articles with it too. Dr. SB's own youtube channel is also a good point of education as long as you bear in mind she does approach it from a practitioner's POV where prescription medication plays a large part of the routine.

Rastel38 · 01/12/2016 00:56

bo yes, its obagi. I have wash, scrub, pads, glycogent, daily defense, spf primer, retamax...the whole lot. Reading all these posts makes me think I should consider other products.

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 01:28

Thank you Hollin I'd totally forgotten about Neutrogena. Always a good one. I'll get some tomorrow (today!).

Used Eucerin 10% body lotion on hands tonight along with heaps of burt's bees cuticle butter and will try to reduce the number of times I wash my hands. Fingers feeling much better already.

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 01:33

bo Thank you, Just seen your advice too. I think I have a teeny bottle of neem in my manicure kit. Will be good for during the day as the Burt's bees is too oily for daytime. Hands aren ok really it's my cuticles and skin around nails that's gone tight and peeling. My lovely lovely dishwasher does all the washing up. Grin But I'll try the gloves and water trick. Must start using marigolds when doing housework.

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 01:34

*are ok...that has gone.

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 01:35

Or 'have gone' even. 🙄 Think I should go to sleep now as my brain already has.

AuroraPolaris · 01/12/2016 08:11

oh bo now I want to go to TKMaxx too! Neom candles and rose face masks... yes the Joik candles are small but it says they are thirty hours. And I agree about the Pacifica - I didn't like them at all. I was just so pleasantly surprised to see soy candles there!

Speaking of the Sisley Rose mask - I tried it a few years ago. Had a big sample that lasted quite a few times and must say I wasn't wowed. I was actually ready to "invest" provided it would have been as nice as people always say but I didn't think it was much better than other masks I have used and that are a third of the price or less.

I also had some very light peeling on my chin yesterday - I'm sure it's the weather as that is where I always get slight irritations in winter - so resorted to applying the Lotus Oil through the evening.

I've finished my Hylamide so will start on the TO Matryxil tonight. I'm very curious...

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 09:55

I've not got a lot of the Indeed Hydraluron left and think I'd like to try an alternative. What do people recommend?

OP posts:
Dulcimena · 01/12/2016 10:15

Is Hydraluron essentially just a HA serum? I don't know if it has anything else, if just moisture then I like TO Buffet and the Hada Labo premium HA serum. I use both together now but if pressed, I think I prefer the Buffet, the HL can be a little sticky.

Hot on the heels of the Benton snail bee steam cream success, I've been looking at their snail bee essence. Has anyone tried it please? I see it has a little azaleic acid in it and that's quite interesting.

AuroraPolaris · 01/12/2016 10:25

Just finished the Benton essence the other day and as I said before I was truly surprised by its hydrating properties, as I bought it on a whim and because of its low price.

Dulcimena · 01/12/2016 10:30

Perfect - thanks Aurora

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 10:51

It is just HA dul. Other ones I've bookmarked to consider are:-

Deciem Hylamide Sub Q
NIOD Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex

Will look at TO Buffet too. Would be good to not be so spendy on a few products!

Latest Dr Sam Bunting (Zinc Oxide) video here

OP posts:
botemp · 01/12/2016 11:36

I've always been inundated with Sisley Rose Mask samples from ICI, Aurora, and I liked it well enough but not enough to justify the price. I think the Una Brennan mask is different in formulation (has a bit of kaolin clay in there so a bit of pore tightening happening) but is similar in finish by giving that dewy hydration without the heaviness and very calming (from the rose). I've done similar in my DIY clay mask by adding in some MV Organics Rose Booster oil but the UB I can really pile on without it drying, will try it a bit longer with a sheetmask on top next time.

Speaking of sheetmasks, Benton do a version of that essence in a sheet mask that I've also tagged as something to buy but wanted to see how I'd get on with the steam cream first if it ever arrives.

Has the Obagi regime been sold to you as such or are you under treatment Rastel38? I only think their Vit C (15%) is worth looking at (though plenty of other options available) but am not a fan of the inclusion of fragrance and on the whole not overly impressed by the formulations at their price points.

Ahem... on the Vintner's Daughter, it is lovely and feels somewhat more potent than normal oils when applying. It kind of eliminated the need for any other product with me, I did layer a moisturiser over it as the heating can switch on at night if temperatures fall too low but it really wasn't necessary. My skin does look lovely and calm today, and indeed that lit from within look Nabootique described but it's not different to the look of my MV Organic Oils the following morning. So lovely as it is I'm not sure if the price tag is worth it to me but it may very well be if you struggle with dullness, also think it's more suited to combo/oily than proper dry skin. I will see how it fares the next few nights, I used a bit too much (3 drops, they recommend 8 Shock) so will use a bit less and see how I fare.

Nabootique · 01/12/2016 12:40

Ahhhh, you liked it bo! I think I only used two drops, which was how I managed to get so many uses out of my 1ml sample. 8 would be nuts! I mean, just, what?? Even with very light oils I find 5 is plenty, but then I am quite oily.

yongnian · 01/12/2016 13:28

Yes I can imagine bo - decorating in our house is 'interesting'...it takes a long time! I ask about grey because it's there DHs tetrachromacy is most astonishing- he doesn't see grey at all, but all the colours we can't see...it's fascinating. (Sorry for the diversion everyone)
Can't wait for my unrestrained product binge carefully planned skincare purchases to arrive.
pupsie will be interested to hear your verdict on elta md please, considering myself. The LRP anthelios is not the right texture for me (tho will be trying their anthelios emulsion next as had mistakenly bought the cream version). So have eyed up the Elta but would like a review before taking the price hike as I've just run through my LRP anthelios in 3 months.

botemp · 01/12/2016 13:35

I think 8 drops is a little much too, even the 5-6 they recommend with the 9 oils tonic from MV I find way too much. 2-3 is my ideal. I think they just want you to see more effect or make it go faster... I do think the Vintner's Daughter would be one that over time becomes less potent too. I have yet to check on how long it keeps.

Pupsie, where did you purchase the EltaMD from, I think it might suit Storm possibly but I thought it was only sold through derms.

Sorry I haven't been very specific about it, but it's also confusing as I don't think the UK has quite the extensive LRP Anthelios line as in Europe. It's the Anthelios Fluid untinted in SPF50 that's cosmetically the most elegant (if memory serves).

wiltingfast · 01/12/2016 13:56

Aargh, am really not getting on with the TO HA. Think I will abandon it. I have fine lines down the side of my face, Sad. I am totally blaming the HA. It just seems to suck the moisture out. Have tried steamy bathrooms, damp face, watery serums etc. Have sent an email to TO looking to send it back. I'll tell you all how that goes.

Maybe I should give it longer? But I really feel it is not working for me.

Another question, have noticed my face is flushing when I put on the argan oil. Bad sign? What do you think? Maybe I should stop using it on my face...

OpenMindedSceptic · 01/12/2016 14:03

wilting it doesn't work for me either. I will use it up (I put it under Vit C in the evening) but will not repurchase.

SuperFlyHigh · 01/12/2016 14:07

Marking place here.

Partly because I semi read an article by Caroline Hirons in this month's Red and though I agree with some of what she says don't agree with all.

Indecisivejo · 01/12/2016 14:41

I've never got on with HA serums they have all dried me out but the hylamide sub q is different for some reason! I'm on my second bottle and just bought my third as it's on offer in boots

Pupsiecola · 01/12/2016 15:14

I bought the Elta from Amazon. It arrived this morning. Will try it tomorrow. I've got to adjust to all round SPF and how much product you get through. I am always careful to take it down to bust line.

Bo what do you think about these:-
Deciem Hylamide Sub Q
NIOD Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex
TO Buffet

I'm not really that impressed with the Indeed HA. I don't think it's doing anything for me so am looking for an alternative.

OP posts:
Nabootique · 01/12/2016 15:42

I've tried the Indeed Labs, Deciem, NIOD and an SR Skincare HA serum. NIOD best by miles IMO. They only one I'd repurchase (just getting to the end of it now).

JDSTER · 01/12/2016 16:33

That's interesting nabootique. I've only ever tried NIOD and was wondering if I could get away with a cheaper one. Have you tried TO HA?
I'm liking TO buffet. Nice texture and seems hydrating.
