Thanks bo. I need to get better re understanding INCIs. I do find LRP quite puzzling though and that's the trouble, isn't it. You feel like you can trust a brand but there can be a vast difference in individual products. Fingers in ears and hands over eyes re the pink Darphin though.

My turn for some emphasis advice. Why can't I do -strikethroughs-?

I actually take alpha lipoic acid supplements plus inositol (vit b8) for insulin resistance, side effect of the lovely pcos. It has given me an amazing boost in energy Smile.

Aurora I've suffered from bendy peeling nails and the only thing that worked was a silica & zinc supplement. Nail oils never did nada. Neither did the fancy nail supplements.

Now off to TO Grin

wiltingfast · 08/12/2016 22:57

You need each side of the word hello--

botemp · 08/12/2016 22:58

Sorry mintleaves, I'd missed your post in all the new TO bits excitement.

First off please check your rosacea to have it properly diagnosed. For example redness on the cheeks (in a butterfly pattern) can also be a symptom of lupus (not saying you have this but it's best to check whether it is truly rosacea or not so we know what we're dealing with). Specifically with the redness flareups, this is something to look into with your GP rather than with your skincare. Please do figure this out first, I can offer thoughts on your routine but it's a very large guessing game without a proper diagnosis I'm afraid.

General thoughts; I've just ripped apart your serum, apologies. Ingredient wise it just isn't very impressive, a well packed HA serum will do more for you but since it is working well enough, stick it out, hydration is never a bad thing but don't expect it to do anything for the rosacea.

By the sounds of it you need to stay away from fragrance and essential oils. A hot face is never a good sign, can you pass on the cleanser to someone else? Clinique TTDO may be an alternative?

I'm personally not a fan of mineral oil but as a cosmetic ingredient it works well for plenty of people and is non-comedogenic. It is highly occlusive though and inhibits cell turnover somewhat and the long term use and suspected links to cancer make some wary of its use. It's truly a personal thing.

If you're dry, cleansing with water in the morning isn't the worst strategy and nor is a minimal routine, if you want to get into actives than Niacinamide and Azelaic are worth looking into wrt redness but until you figure out what is at the cause of the redness (rosacea or something else) I wouldn't start on these just yet.

How are you getting on with the Nip + Fab pads, are these not too much for you?

Sorry, probably not the answers you were looking for wrt getting the routine sorted but I really do feel you need to get your skin assessed professionally first to see what the redness is and what is causing the flare ups.

botemp · 08/12/2016 23:00

wilting have you been drinking the nail oils Confused

However, if you're still lucid, what does Alpha Lipoic Acid (and B8) do for PCOS/Insulin Resistance?

yongnian · 08/12/2016 23:02

Oo naughty TO - when I ordered the other day, the Azelaic acid was out of stock, as was their mattifying primer and they said they'd email me when it was back in stock the lying toads
serve them right if Hollin makes a fortune on eBay
Mind you, gives me an excuse to go there and order that and the squalene...my skin drinks up the stuff, I like it.
Enid that is exactly what's been happening in my mirror every morning since I got it....though I did slightly over do the orangey under eye colour earlier and had to rub some of it off when I caught sight of myself in the rear view mirror in the car...I was trying to see if I could pull off my usual slapdash 30-second makeupnomakeup job and clearly can't yet!!
bo funny you should say that about pink dyes - I've got on fine with my Uriage Rosealiac milky cleanser, but since I've been using serozinc as a toner again, I've noticed pink stuff coming off onto the cotton wool...
mint leaves don't know if this something of use to you but something I've been trialling with my rosacea is avoiding pulling, rubbing or doing anything basically physically stimulating to the surface of the skin. So whereas I've always removed cleanser or toner with a dampened cotton wool pad by 'smearing'it off over the skin, I'm now trying to pat it off. It does work as well, I'm just conditioned to feeling like I'm really cleaning my face that whereas in reality I think I was just aggravating it more. I also blot or pat dry with a towel rather than rub, and foundation or tinted moisturiser goes on with a brush.
Changes in temp i.e. Warm then cold water I'm also trying to avoid.

hollinhurst84 · 08/12/2016 23:02

I'm still waiting for my TO order Sad

wiltingfast · 08/12/2016 23:03

Oh and I have the Una Brennan cleansing oil and can only use it the odd time. It prickles my cheeks. They are precious snowflakes though. Personally not a RP item at all.

I would love to find a gentle oil in nice packaging shallow Grin

yongnian · 08/12/2016 23:09

Actually I have maligned them - just went to TO site and both things still out of stock... ah well, back to deliberating over Daniel Sandler samples.

Pupsiecola · 08/12/2016 23:11

-but it doesn't work-

yongnian · 08/12/2016 23:13

Still waiting for your Black Friday order hollin?? Shock
I've ordered from them after that and it arrived this week. Confused

wiltingfast · 08/12/2016 23:14

The inositol stimulates your cells to take up insulin and use it instead of it turning to fat. It's also believed to be critical to cell signalling.

The ALA is fat and water soluble, assists cell energy production. It improves blood sugar. How? I'm not sure. It's supposed to improve the efficacy of the inositol. They are specifically recommended for women with pcos.

yongnian · 08/12/2016 23:14

Two dashes either side pupsie

mintleaves · 08/12/2016 23:15

Hi Bo

Thank you for the quick and v.helpful answer. No worries about the serum - to be honest I think my enthusiasm for it may really be an enthusiasm for the concept of serum in general as I was a relatively sporadic user of it until spending a bit more money on this one, and consequently being more diligent about using it..

The Nip & Fab pads are ok - don't cause a huge flare-up but then not particularly convinced they're doing that much for me either, so I'm relatively agnostic about carrying on with them.

Noted re the doctors - I've been putting it off as I always feel vaguely silly about it when the redness is basically manageable - but I can see that a proper diagnosis is what I need.

Will make my appointment and off to Boots tomorrow to investigate Clinique TTDO.

Thanks again for the advice - really much appreciated.

hollinhurst84 · 08/12/2016 23:15

Yep, they have sent things out about the delay but... I've emailed and FB with no reply

wiltingfast · 08/12/2016 23:15

The hello business was to pupsie by the way. Am tired but lucid!

Pupsiecola · 08/12/2016 23:17

Wise words there yong. I have adopted a similar approach. I do use a tepid flannel and have to resist the urge to have a good scrub, but generally I am all about the patting products on now and just treating my skin like silk (who said that?).

OP posts:
botemp · 08/12/2016 23:19

Oh no nail oils snuffing, explaining the dashes... yes double dash either side and not next to parenthesis and some other keys.

Any particular brand/concentration you're using, wilting? Though my insulin resistance probably not as bad as it used to be, all the side effects of it are gone since I've gone completely sugar free.

Pupsiecola · 08/12/2016 23:19

aha I've got it woohoo

OP posts:
botemp · 08/12/2016 23:21

I don't know who said that but my mum was always convinced that my sensitive skin should be handled by silk gloves at all times Grin

mintleaves · 08/12/2016 23:21

Thanks Yongnian - I probably do 'pull' my skin a bit in the effort to feel like I'm cleaning thoroughly. Will try patting!

I do try to regulate water temperatures as I know heat/cold affects it - this time of year is the worst for my skin as going from chilly outdoor conditions to v. heated office really messes with it..

wiltingfast · 08/12/2016 23:29

Jarrow so far is the best inositol. 2g am and pm. It's a powder you dissolve in water. Slightly sweet taste.

Best naturals ALA 600mg am and pm. TBH this was just the cheapest one I could find. The best form is the r lipoic acid. You'd need less of that because that is active form I think.

botemp · 08/12/2016 23:39

Thanks wilting will investigate tomorrow, and annoy my specialist with emails about it Grin

SaltySeaBird · 09/12/2016 00:01

Hello

Would love some advice and with Christmas coming my husband has asked what I want so looking for a few products to put on my wish list.

Skin type: Normal I think. Prone to hormonal spots that glow like beacons. My skin is neither oily or dry though.

Approx age (range): 40 and looking it

Primary skin concern: Anti-aging! I have an 8 month who is allergic to sleep and a 4 year old who doesn't go to school until 2017 and so sleep / rest and relaxation are in short supply. My fine lines aren't so fine anymore. I look my age. My skin no longer glows and it takes a lot more make up to make me look presentable. A three hour daily commute doesn't help. I think Botox is probably the answer but I'd like to see what skincare could do.

Routine:

AM - NipFab glycolic pads, Lancôme Genefique serum (almost run out), Clarins hydration lotion.

PM - Boots No 7 Hot Cloth Cleansing, Nip Fab night time glycolic pads, Carins Night Lotion.

Occasional treatments: None

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results: Nothing really

Things that are really working well for me now: I like the hot cloth cleansing and NipFab pads. I don't think the serum has any impact.

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant: I swim 3-4 times a week so chlorine is quite drying.

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: > Open really but prefer lower cost, I'd pay around £50 for a decent product, I'd hesitate on buying products upwards of this.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]...
Looking for a new serum and cream that will plump my tired skin up, reduce fine lines and make me more radiant! Occasionally suffer with redness on my nose but apart from that my skin tone is relatively even.

SaltySeaBird · 09/12/2016 00:04

Here is my forehead. I have a bit of a bumpy texture under the skin although this never breaks out and you can see my forehead lines.
