Has anyone used Philip Kingsley's hair elasticizer?

OP posts:
hollinhurst84 · 07/12/2016 23:20

It is Smile they sell on their own website or beauty bay stock some

MintyChops · 07/12/2016 23:39

yong do you think the pesky toddler caused the tightness? What a gorgeous that no for your husband to say though....

Bo, thank you, no hurry, you have been over-run!

Aurora, thank you, I have just ordered the p50w (this thread is lethal), should I just use that 3 times a week in the evenings and no other acid? None at all? Have run out of Good Genes so can not bother to replace if you think it's overkill. Have just invested in P&M Retinol oil so would prefer to stick with this and consider TO Retinol later. Yes, good idea on HA and vit C, could strip out other actives and acids and trial them. Brilliant! Buggery about both Clarins cleanser and Ren one.

wilting yes, I had been toying with the idea/ lusting after it for ages. It was €78 for 250ml, hope that's about right. Where are you? I'll give you a decant to try?

MintyChops · 07/12/2016 23:39

That no? Thing!

EnidButton · 08/12/2016 03:33

Pupsie I use PK elasticizer once a month. I really really like it. I have very thick, bra strap length hair that is slightly wavy when left. If that's any help. I know some posters with finer hair aren't keen on it. For me though it adds a silkiness and weight that I can't get from just conditioner but at the same time my roots feel fuller and lighter after using it. It's hard to describe. You can get the smaller tube to try first.

Pupsiecola · 08/12/2016 07:33

Thanks Enid. Sounds like we have similar hair although mine isn't as long. I ordered the same size and it arrived yesterday. Do you put it on dry pre washing?

OP posts:
wiltingfast · 08/12/2016 08:58

I'm in dublin minty, would love a decant if you are sure?!

This thread IS lethal. Bought a some real technique brushes yesterday. And a Rosie blusher. And a lippie! Blush

Any recommendations for an alternative foundation for thirsty skin? now that I have a new fancy brush for it Grin

AuroraPolaris · 08/12/2016 09:12

yongian best way to apply sheet masks is to do your routine including the serum/s stage, then apply the sheet mask. I leave it on for about an hour or until it dries (don't forget to use what is left in sachet on chest arms etc). Then remove, pat in the excess and continue with oil, night cream or both (I do both Wink) Have fun!
Attached is a photo of the very cute LRP Serozinc

minty it sounds like your skin is irritated and suffering from various problems, so I think you have to go down a simpler way. Maybe for some people it's OK to pile on lots of different stuff, but for you it's obvs not working.

Personally I also think acid 3 times a week is enough (and I have tried it more often) and since P50 is the best... Since your skin is used to acids I think you can just proceed 3 times a week but only in the PM (!), though just in case I would wet the cotton wool pad with a bit of water the first week or two to dilute it. This is strong stuff! Don't forget to use what is left of the cotton pad on chest, upper arms, elbows etc Wink. After that you can "graduate to the normal P50 Grin

I also think you need to up the hydration levels and that is best done with specific products like Hylamid Sub-Q HA. At the moment I'm using TO Matryxil and am very pleased, but have a look above thread at Benton Snail Bee essence also very hydrating. You can use these serums under what you have now, like the Caudelie (I actually love and have a lot of Caudelie things). Don't know the BB though.
You can get the Caudelie Polyphenol C15 moisturiser when your is finished, I been using it for a while (with a couple of drops of oil under it). I think it's great value for money and is very hydrating.

By the way the SR GG gave me spots, not to mention the super human effort at enduring the dried cat piss smell Hmm

As you will also see upthread - even though I have dryish skin I use the Clarins Lotus oil, which I think is the best! So maybe consider this once the natal one is finished.

Eventually you can add Vit C in the AM, but wait a few weeks until you have established a steady routine. Another step you could eventually take is adding hydrating masks a couple of times a week, but again, wait to introduce more stuff.

How many % retinol does your oil have, by the way?

Re the Clarins cleanser - when I tired it I simply felt it was not coming off properly, and the Ren cleanser is just a gut feeling that it used to be better, but I might be wrong.
Cleanse with the LRP only in the AM and for the PM just finish what you have.

So - cleanse, active (for now on in the PM), spray, hydrating serum (possibly topped wth what you still have), oil, cream (if needed) and in the AM SPF.

Yeah, this thread is a killer - but eventually you save money by first not buying stuff you have to bin and second buying some stuff that is not so expensive and is very effective (like TO or AB).

Have a think and see what you want to change and maybe ask us more specific product questions before you buy anything.

Wilting I'm very pleased with Chanel VLA at the moment. I found a perfect colour match (BR32), but it has almost no coverage. It's more that it gives this wonderful glow that lasts somehow throughout the day. really don't understand how it does it, as it basically covers almost nothing (but my skin is very good and I have no pigmentation or marks or anything, so don't really "need" the coverage).
I also love Clinique Moisture Surge CC cream (I use light medium). It's also very gloomy and has good ingredients.

AuroraPolaris · 08/12/2016 09:22

gloomy??? glowy, obvs....

JDSTER · 08/12/2016 09:33

I got an email today about The Ordinary launching "colour formulations"

Apologies, I fell asleep early last night Blush much to the amusement of others, I'm usually a night owl but have been on low sleep lately so shouldn't be surprised. Thankfully I'd already done my routine Grin.

Stressville

Apt name I assume? I know pregnancy and fluctuating hormones make for terrible skin cocktails but how sure are you that you're dry and not dehydrated? The symptoms you describe sound more like dehydration to me but you could have a combination of the two but I think it's more likely you're combination skinned with dehydration with heightened sensitivity during pregnancy. Considering the temperamental way skin can react during pregnancy it could also be that you flip flop from one end of the spectrum to the next for periods of time.

So bearing in mind the pregnancy (congrats by the way!) and the hyperthyroidism the likelihood is you're going to have to keep adapting your routine over the next few months when it throws something new at you. Keep it basic for now is all I can really recommend, now is not the time to be experimenting with the more potent actives. So look into the gentler sorts like Matrixyl, Azelaic, Lactic, and Niacinamide for now.

The basic tenants:

Keep your face away from the shower water, it's too hot. All skincare happens at the sink, including cleansing. Tepid water, clean flannel every day. Wash hands before starting routine. Acids need to be introduced slowly, some purging may occur but should not continue, nor should continued irritation with any product. Generally (hard in your case I'm aware) introduce products slowly (cleansers are exempt from this), 2 weeks apart.

AM :

Avène Cleansing Foam 150ml did use some strong EUcerin stripper but realised i needed something more gentle. If you're truly dry a cleansing foam is never going to be pleasant and dehydrated doesn't always fare well with them either. No surprise, insert LRP Toleriane Dermo Cleanser here.

TO Matrixyl - peptide technology, promising to replace a retinol and Vit C routine, the jury is still out on the science but the serum appears to fare well with users and is gentle so good alternative during pregnancy.

Estee Lauder Reslience something eye cream - if you like this keep on using it, generally eye creams aren't all that spectacularly different from each other unless you're addressing a specific issue with them.

La Roche-Posay Hydraphase UV Riche 50ml as my Simple Riche stuff was not helping the dryness.

botemp · 08/12/2016 10:25

CoconutAmericano, I mentioned it on the previous thread but Tret has a staggeringly low success rate on its own. I wouldn't look for a moisturiser with retinol but rather a serum as those have a higher efficacy rate.

Ones we've discussed here in order of ascending price:

TO Advanced Retinoid 2% (gentle, but potentially clogging for some, relatively new so long term effects yet to be evaluated)

Facetheory Regenacalm 2% Retinol and Vitamin C Serum (new on the market, long term effects yet to be evaluated, v. interesting ingredient list with the inclusion of Vit C, E and Ferulic)

Pestle & Mortar Superstar retinol night oil (gentle in oil form, supposedly highly effective, initial responses v. positive but little insight into long term effects as of yet)

Longer established and generally well liked:

LRP Redermic R
Paula's Choice 1% retinol
Skinceuticals 1% retinol

Currently I'm using TO, used to use Verso (also great but very pricey £140 mark I believe), preferred the Verso but not the price, won't be RP the TO as it is clogging on me (not a universal reaction) and most likely trying the P&M next or the Face Theory.

botemp · 08/12/2016 10:28

Flowers Flowers Flowers Pupsie, only just caught up to the 'PM' business. Will you be okay to manage without him? PM me (as in the messaging stuff) if you need any advice.

AuroraPolaris · 08/12/2016 10:46

bo what do you think about this Benton propolis gel? Or this mist? I haven't tried them, but thought maybe some ppl here could use them to clam very irritated skin. The ingredients are very interesting and they seem to have very positive reviews.

botemp · 08/12/2016 10:58

Minty

€78 for 250ml sounds about right, I never buy the largest size as I'd have trouble finishing it (50ml lasts me at least 6 months) the 150ml is around €45 here. On to your routine.

I diagnose you with a Caroline Hirons addiction Grin. So as Aurora has already so helpfully suggested it's time for a detox as the kitchen sink approach is not for everyone, or very effective either.

AM

Cleanse: Clarins extra comfort anti pollution cleansing cream/ LRP Toleriane

botemp · 08/12/2016 11:09

wilting I find the Laura Mercier Hydrating Primer good for thirsty skin, foundation land caters very poorly for it and have only found tinted moisturisers to work well on their own. Products like GA Luminous Silk will work well but with the primer it just does so much better. I tend to avoid silicones in my skincare because it balls up when you use several layers, (and feels uncomfortable to me) and it usually balls up when you get to the makeup stage, so only reserve it for use in makeup where I can.

Interesting about those Ordinary Colours, JDSTER, I wonder if it's proper foundation or like the Cover Fx drops to alter the colour or turn moisturisers into tinted moisturisers.

The Aloe Propolis gel has a citrus extract in there Aurora, which can be real hit or miss with people so I'd hesitate to recommend universally. The mist looks ok ingredient wise but it's 80% water but the addition of Tea Tree extract is nice but it is a bit similar to something like serozinc. The 40ml packaging and addition of HA does make it ideal for travelling/plane use though.

Ok, think I'm caught up now... teaches me to fall asleep early Wink.

Indecisivejo · 08/12/2016 13:38

bo you missed me out Xmas Sad

Indecisivejo · 08/12/2016 13:39

Although I don't blame you, I'm a lost cause I think.

EnidButton · 08/12/2016 13:54

pupsie Wet your hair and wring it out or give it a good squeeze with a towel. You want more than damp but less than soaking, if that makes sense. then wide comb the PK E through the ends, leave it in for 20 minutes, preferably under a warm loose towel or shower cap, then rinse it all out before doing your usual hair washing routine. The rinsing it out is the key bit, so rinse it really thoroughly.

AuroraPolaris · 08/12/2016 14:00

Yeah I also suspected minty was suffering from a CH addiction Grin

I'm very tempted by the Benton stuff, not that I need it, just curious... but I'm so so tempted by many things the last few days (including chocolate Xmas Wink). Definitely have to refine that mind/ body balance....

Speaking of - anyone tried the newish Essie gel polishes in the twisty bottles? Is it "safe" to indeed skip base coat?

And I'm tempted by the Tony Moly Pokémon stuff though I don't usually go for cute. Maybe it's because Pokémon is the most repeated word here is our household??? I swear I don't understand half what they say to each other the last few weeks Hmm

Think I'm going to do one of the Tony Moly foot thingies tonightWine

botemp · 08/12/2016 14:50

Don't be so hard on yourself Jo, I didn't realise you'd asked a question. It's hard to say what is causing the sheen. I assume you've tried blotting papers? Is it truly oil?

The curiosity thing is the worst isn't it Aurora, I think I should have bought an advent calendar to sate it now that the Ordinary stuff has become, well, a bit ordinary. I don't know about Essie nail polish but speaking of, the Skincity Advent offer for today is 40% off Smith & Cult anyone tried those? Think they're supposed to be one of those 'clean' polishes, I've tried Kure Bazaar in the past but wasn't overly impressed.

Stay away from the Pokemon! There's a whole drama saga about it on Reddit, I'd have to dig out the details again to remember what it was.

hollinhurst84 · 08/12/2016 14:55

I very much like the rainbow connection site for nail polish but it's a bit... Lethal on the credit card GrinGrin you can filter by finish or colour or brand

EnidButton · 08/12/2016 16:02

Did anyone got the cult beauty Caroline Hirons box? £195!! Shock

I've ordered some Daniel Sandler watercolour blush minis to try. Love that they do samples. In hair salon yesterday I realised that my blusher (Mac) wears off too quickly so a non powder might do the trick.

EnidButton · 08/12/2016 16:07

bo Do you know of any oil balms that would be suitable for me. Recap- can't do Shea butter, rosemary oil or rosehip. Dehydrated combo skin prone to mild acne on chin/jaw.

I'm at the very last bit of my EH which I do like but hoping there's a less £££ alternative and sometimes it does feel a little heavy. Tempted to try the small bottle of dhc and ignore the rosemary oil as I only get a bit itchy if I touch the plant.

Apologies if you've already said. Memory like a sieve.
